Since 1998, violinist/violist Laurel Thomsen and her colleagues have provided sweet, soulful, and sassy music for events and venues around her home base on the California Central Coast (Monterey, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, etc.) and the San Francisco Bay Area, including weddings, cocktail hours and receptions, marriage proposals, memorials, art gallery openings, parties, corporate or holiday/themed events, and house concerts. Laurel's event repertoire features diverse genres and can be performed on solo violin or accompanied by a variety of duo, trio, or ensemble configurations. The core mission of Music Dept is to provide a concierge experience when clients hire live musicians for a wedding or special event. Our clients include individuals, wedding planners, corporate event planners, country clubs, and non-profit organizations. Music Dept is based in NYC, NJ, and CT, but we are happy to travel throughout the US.

Growing up I’ve always loved singing for small and large audiences. I’ve sang a broad range of song but now I choose to stick with inspiration & lifting songs that bring hope and bring a smile to my hearers faces. I put my all in to my performance and do everything I can to help make a couple’s happy moment one of the greatest memories they’ll ever have. I have been singing at wedding ceremonies and receptions on and off for the past 7 years. One of the most exciting weddings I’ve sang at was for a friend’s reception in Sweden! There is nothing quite like the elegance of strings. We recommend string groups for Wedding Ceremonies, Elegant Dinners, and Cocktail Hours. Whether it is the standard grouping of Violin, Violin, Viola and Cello or a hybrid ensemble with harp or guitar, our players are well versed in both classical and contemporary repertoire. We also have Electric String Quartets. Some clients opt to have the group play acoustic for the ceremony and switch to electric instruments for cocktail hour.

Margot Varret is a uniquely gifted performer with both her voice and harp. As a native born French speaker she is expert in the repertoire of Chanson made famous by iconic artists like Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. She is also a fabulous classic jazz singer who renders the classics of the great American songbook with a signature French flair. She regularly sells out Birdland Theater leading her own group.

Clerida and Adam, is an ideal cello and guitar duo to hire for wedding ceremonies or cocktail hours. Both musicians have a unique ability to play classical and also improvise with the fluidity of a jazz player. They are also a very rhythmic pair, so don’t be surprised if your cocktail hour guests start bobbing their heads or taking out their cell phone to shoot a quick video. Clerida and Adam are available for Weddings, Cocktail Hours, Corporate Events, and Dinners. They travel throughout the greater NYC area and also around the country.

Emily Simone is a classically-trained electric violinist, DJ and producer who has dazzled audiences internationally with her dynamic, impassioned and completely improvised live performances. Approaching dance music with an orchestral sensibility and the turntables as an instrument unto themselves, Emily solos along with whatever the DJ spins – from Rihanna to Reggae, deep house to dirty 90’s RnB -her sets are raw, electrifying and fun.

When my friends started to get married, the requests to DJ their weddings began pouring in. It made sense, they wanted to party, and I had helped them do it weekend after weekend all over NYC. Bassist and bandleader Josh Levine got his start in the professional music business busking in SoHo with The Flying Neutrinos in ’93, so when NYC shut down in Spring of 2020, he capitalized on his experience as a street performer and began to play regularly in the parks of NYC with percussionist and sonero, Jainardo Batista, renowned flutist Itai Kriss making his debut on Cuban trés guitar, and María Raquel on vocals and minor percussion. Before long, the quartet had generated some buzz, several venues hired them to play outdoors and pianist Gabriel Chakarji and Grammy winning flutist and vocalist Jeremy Bosch became staples of the group.

While DJing at private parties and events since 2005, Jay created Seattle DJ Pro. Jay has the mastery & knowledge of weddings and events to materialize a unique benchmark for weddings and corporate occasions. Jay started developing his aptitude by rotating vinyl at house parties and advanced on to play club nights. Since then he has DJed everywhere from Seattle to Portland and represented trademarks like Blue Nile Diamonds and T-Mobile.

Carte Blanche is a 6-piece jazz ensemble based in New York City that performs international jazz classics from the 1920’s to the 1950’s.
