How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

The venue provided use with outstanding vendor recommendations & planning details throughout the year leading up to our wedding and then our wedding coordinator, Alli, brought the whole thing home into a tightly coordinated day that was smooth & spectacular. Our guests raved about the food. The Filet Mignon is worth it & guests were stealing cookies to take home by the end of the night. Ultimately, it is hard to beat how beautiful the property is. We found Olio through social media and booked a tour right away. Walking up the staircase quite literally took my breath away. I was an emotional bride :) but the vast concrete walls, original flooring, and high ceilings brought tears to my eyes. We were “one and done.” Sarah, her team, and what they have created on Main Street is truly magic. We chose some budget friendly options (for items such as flowers and decor) but no matter the size, every bride is treated with luxury customer service. I’m not sure how we got so lucky, it feels like we found some sort of precious gem. We struggled to find the right words to do it all justice. Simply put, we feel so grateful. “10/10!!! If we could get married 10 times over again, we would be at Walden 10 times more. Walden was the most perfect wedding venue from start to finish. The main thing that we were looking for in a venue was an all inclusive vibe that would allow for as little planning and stress as possible, as neither of us were really into the whole wedding planning thing. Walden was just that. The wedding planners that you work with from the beginning, make it so easy to stay on track. the app that they use was super helpful to make sure that everything was organized and things are done according to the best timeline. We never once felt stressed out about the whole wedding planning process and that really says a lot about Walden and how great they are. Big shout out to Krystle and Alyssa for making the process so seamless and making sure we were supported. The other important piece of criteria that we wanted was on site catering so that our guests would have the best experience from a food perspective. The food was phenomenal! Our guests raved about how great it was, saying it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. The bar was the best wedding bar I’ve ever seen. The drink selection was on point, with amazing cocktails and the bar staff was incredible. A huge shout out to bartender Amy, who made sure that both of us had drinks in our hand the entire night! Walden is so thoughtful in their entire approach from making sure you are taken care of months before the wedding, to the day of the wedding, giving you space to have a cocktail, appetizer, and a breather before the party starts! We are obsessed with this venue and we really hope that one day we get invited back to someone else’s wedding there so we can relive the wonderful experience that we had!”

“I had such a wonderful experience having our wedding at Summit. Everything from the first visit to the ceremony was smooth and well done. The owners Russel and Leta are amazing, down to earth people and their whole family helps out with the wedding process. They are so kind, companionate, and really welcoming to their property. Being an all inclusive venue..Becca (the planner who is also so so sweet!!) will walk you through everything you need to start planning and connects you with all the vendors, gives recommendations, as well as works with your coordinator (Susan) to have your wedding be the night of your dreams. The decorator and bartender, Sam, has the most wonderful personality and really knows how to set a table and the mood to keep guests happy. Everyone whom i dealt with was inviting, warm and accommodating to any and every need we had; even going out of their way for a few. This family is the ideal need for any kind of wedding or special event you could ask for. They have just about everything to make your vision come to life with how you want your reception to look and be. So many decor options to choose from and even a Pinterest board to visualize it. The pictures definitely doesn't do this venue justice with how beautiful and amazing it truly is. From the mountain view to the draped barn; it really is breath taking. I chose October to have the leaves changing for my photos and was blown away by how beautiful it all was cast against the blue mountains when i walked up day of. Believe me when i say it definitely is a sight to see in person. Other things include: being handicapped accessible, aiding those who need it to get to the barn from the connecting gravel parking area, lawn games to play while the couples are taking photos, four different bathrooms connected to the barn, patio and smoking areas, and plenty of open room for dancing, rental house on site for wedding party/family (which is also a gorgeous little home). I cannot express how thankful i am to have found and had the pleasure of having my wedding at Summit Farms. I highly recommend this venue. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “I cannot say enough about how AMAZING The Boylston Rooms was for my wedding!!! If you are looking for the perfect New England wedding in an old industrial building then THIS is the place for you. The best part is it’s a dedicated wedding venue. It is their entire job to throw the best weddings ever. They have a room FULL of decorations to choose from. They provide tableware, different colored table cloths and napkins, faux greenery and candles, drapery, arbors, card boxes, picture frames, etc. There are dedicated bridal and grooms suites with a lock code to keep your items safe. Fun settings around the building for photo sessions. Two beautiful rooms for the ceremony and reception. A beautiful patio for cocktail hour as long as weather permits. A dedicated catering kitchen attached to the reception room who will cater to all dietary needs!! I have celiac disease and they provided an entire gluten free buffet for my guests and EVERYTHING was delicious. Not to mention the staff!! Erin and Myles are the BEST!!! “From the moment we stepped foot at The Wheeler House, we knew this was where we wanted to get married. There's something to offer every couple, from the historic house with beautiful wrap-around porches and a pool table for the groomsmen, to the outdoor ceremony space with newly installed turf and tall trees, to the breathtaking barn with high rafters and draping. The staff is professional and our coordinator, Emma, went above and beyond to make sure our day went off seamlessly. It's a common misconception that you sacrifice quality with an all inclusive option but that couldn't be farther from the truth with The Wheeler House. We will be recommending this venue along with our family & friends over and over again. Separately, our wedding party stayed at The Wheeler House Cottages for our entire wedding weekend and it made our experience so much more enjoyable, continuing the celebrations after the wedding and having everyone in one place for ease. “My husband and I got married two weeks ago at The Sanctuary and had the best night! Our guests loved the many features of the venue (the pier, patio, tent, and indoor space), complimented the food and drinks, and we were all extremely impressed by the high quality service provided by the bartenders and waiters. Working with Amelia and Kat on the day was a pleasure and we couldn’t thank them enough for supporting us as we got set up that morning, and throughout the day. Our wedding day was the first time we interacted with either of them, and it was a pleasant surprise to have so much support on our side. Throughout the planning process we worked closely with Alfonso. Alfonso does a great job selling The Sanctuary and was available to answer our questions along the way. There were definitely some things we needed to dig into a bit more than we thought we’d have to - creating a detailed timeline for the day based a few examples provided, develop clearer floorplans of the venue for our vendors to ensure they understood the space, putting together a table map for our dinner setup, renting/purchasing the sound equipment needed for our ceremony on the pier, finding an alternative rehearsal space, and hiring a day of coordinator to support with decor, set-up, flow, and cleanup. Reading other reviews of the venue was super helpful to ensure we were asking the right questions and following up on pieces that seemed unclear. If you’re looking for an affordable (relative to the rest of NYC), dynamic, and interesting wedding venue, and you’re willing to put in the work or hire a wedding planner, this is definitely a great contender!”

“My partner and I’s venue search ended the second we ascended in the historical elevator to the penthouse of the James Oviatt Building. The Oviatt venue is a multifaceted piece of beautiful Art Deco history that lends itself well to whatever event you are trying to throw. In our case, they hosted our wedding. We will forever be grateful for their immense care and kindness leading up to, on, and after the big day. We met the President Gabe first, who had his own wedding at this venue before he managed it. He made us feel right at home and answered every question we could muster. Our one hour showing turned into a two and a half hour conversation where his care and passion for the venue and his clients became very clear. We felt a connection right away. He shared a wealth of great advise and reassurances and gave us an impeccable pool of preferred vendors. We were sold in minutes. Every event is different, but my partner and I did not feel the space needed any help to become beautiful. The architectural art of the space is breathtaking and unique from the valet area outside of the Cicada Club all the way to the terrace. We saved a fortune on a florist. Who needs one when everything is already so classy? Speaking of class, the Director of Events Lindsey took point on execution and was our resource during the planning process. I as an individual am not the most communicative. I needed someone with that attention to detail and she delivered. After giving her all the venue required specifications (seating chart, insurances, etc,) two conversations was all it took for her to equip the venue with everything it needed and make it gorgeous. It seemed effortless for her. Not a spec of dust or dirt to be seen and the staff was respectful, efficient, and welcoming. I had a panic attack because I forgot to ask them for valet and she was able to get her people on it without issue the same week as the wedding. (Don’t be like me, but that is a perfect example of how on top of it they are.) They had EVERYTHING we could have wanted for a downtown metropolitan wedding and then some. If they didn’t have it? They knew exactly where to refer you. One of my personal favorite features was their completely customizable LED lighting strips on the hedges that lined either side of the rooftop. We had them a bright warm light for dinner and then a cycle of rainbow colors for dancing. They are inclusive and welcoming to any and all who come to visit. We felt valued, respected, and well cared for. It truly was the best day of our lives and we owe it all to The Oviatt. I implore to to reach out to them. I can say with certainty that you won’t be disappointed and whatever it is you are planning will become a memorable experience unlike any other.”

“We had a fabulous wedding reception at the Donauschwaben German Cultural Center (Lenau Park). Their entire staff—from their awesome coordinator Christine to their banquet captain and bar staff—was so kind, so professional, and most importantly made our guests feel welcome and taken care of. Christine came to every meeting organized and prepared. She understands the details as well as the emotions that go into planning a wedding and was a great part of our support system. She is fair and reasonable—even helped us make a German Hall a little more “Italian” for the bride. We could not have asked for a better partner! As for the venue itself, it was the perfect place to host 300 of our closest friends and family. The space was beautiful, bright and happy. Our guests were comfortably seated at 32 round tables of 8 to 10. The team made all of our décor visions come to life. The outdoor patio was welcoming and comfortable for guests as well. The dance floor is huge! Perfect for an Italian tarantella. I would also say the room is set up well acoustically—with 300 people in the room and music playing, you could still hear the other people at your table. The entryway was also perfect for our receiving line. We were happy to see that guests could enjoy their time—whether they wanted to dance the night away, sit and chat, or just enjoy the night air with family. The food was excellent—seriously excellent. We got so many compliments after the wedding! They have their buffet line down to a science with all of our guests being served in a reasonable amount of time. They also did a great job of meeting the needs of our gluten- and dairy-free guests. That is so hard to do when you are feeding so many people, and even these guests said they enjoyed their meals. Finally, the money we spent on this wedding reception was well worth the value. The food and beverage packages are incredibly fair for the quality and the amount of food your guests will be served. We were also able to add appetizers and some special add-ons at a reasonable rate. The linens are provided by a separate vendor, but even those costs were not too bad, and everything looked beautiful when it was decorated! While there are certain rules the venue must follow and sometimes we needed to negotiate the details, Christine was highly transparent and upfront with us, and always worked with us to find the right solution for our day. After hosting our wedding here, we would absolutely do it again with this space and this team. When it comes to the Donauschwaben, we strongly recommend them for your wedding reception and cannot say enough good things about their level of service!”

Pictures don’t do it justice and it’s so beautiful you truly need very little to make it your own. Gaby was incredible for the entire planning process all the way through to our big day. We did almost everything ourselves- including creating an arch to be married under, to signage, to table decor, even our own wedding flowers. Gaby answered every question with ease and was incredible at assuaging my nerves. She and her team set things up perfectly from the ceremony to the switch for dinner and then dancing. I often questioned if we needed a day of coordinator and was so happy I didn’t waste my money on one because it wasn’t needed. I never knew a day could be as truly magical as our wedding was and a huge part of that was how much we loved our venue. I would happily suggest it to anyone asking. The other huge bonus is it was truly one of if not the best value for venues in the twin cities. This gem will continue to gain notoriety as an incredible venue for years to come!!”

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! From the moment we first reached out, the team was incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel like our special day was just as important to them as it was to us. I had a tall order - I began planning my wedding just 2 and a half months before I had set the date, which was also my birthday, and over a holiday weekend. Hosting a party of 45, we were amazed by the level of attention and detail the staff provided. They were not only helpful in the planning stages but also went above and beyond on the day itself. The atmosphere was beautiful, creating the perfect backdrop for our celebration. We did the whole package for a daytime wedding, the ceremony and reception and lunch. I was so happy to be blessed with perfect weather as well as wild turkeys and hawks around the venue. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, and the staff’s professionalism and genuine care truly made our day unforgettable. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the stunning views and exquisite service. The food was impressive, and the cake was delicious (I hear - I didn't get a piece! Busy bride!) Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.

“Our company, Book That DJ, has DJ’ed hundreds of weddings at Nazareth. It is by far our favorite hall! There is never any issue, everything flows very smoothly, the food is absolutely amazing and it’s so beautiful! Each hall room has its own vibe and can be decorated so many different ways making every wedding different and unique. We absolutely love being here and don’t even get me started on how awesome the staff members are! Abby and her team are so pleasant to work with! You can tell they genuinely care about you making your wedding day perfect!”
