Our day couldn't have been better. The venue is incredible - the greenery and everything made it so you don't need a ton of decorations, the setup was perfect, the bartenders and staff were fast, helpful, and super friendly. And our experience with Adriana leading up to the wedding was the best. She was super collaborative and responsive, we had multiple meetings there to make sure everything was perfect, and she did everything she could to make the day exactly what we wanted. Absolutely zero bad notes. 10000/10.

We're so glad we chose The Bonnie for our wedding. Living in the city we don't get to host people often and were looking for a venue with a warm and personal vibe, elevated without being too formal - we were so lucky The Bonnie is right in our neighborhood! Their event manager Tali is very flexible, calm, and easy to communicate with. She and the whole staff were amazing throughout the night, resetting the ceremony space into dinner space seamlessly and navigating around an enthusiastic dance floor late into the night. Not a glass was broken! They also let us use the bar TVs to share a slideshow and some videos which were a big hit with guests and made the whole event feel so personal. We booked the back garden, oak room, and snug area and had around 105 people. This was a good number for the space (max capacity was 120 which I'm glad we did not hit). We got lucky with the weather for mid August and it was low 80s during the day of our wedding. I was nervous about the heat in the garden but it was comfortable. I was also a bit nervous about the dance floor being cobblestone but it was perfectly fine and didn't stop anybody of any age! If you have eaten here you know the food and drinks are great. We particularly appreciated the ease of accommodating dietary restrictions. Their wedding menu has a nice selection of options and their executive chef Nick also customized a bit beyond that, offering us a gluten free dessert. Our one vegan guest got a vegan pastrami sandwich which was a hit! There was also more food at cocktail hour than I expected, with a couple people asking us if it was the dinner. This will sound weird but I was surprised how much fun I had. So thankful to everyone at The Bonnie for being so on top of everything and letting us enjoy the day!

Sweet Afton
Rating: 5.0 (1 review)
Astoria, NY
  • Up to 50 guests

Sweet Afton is the best bar in Astoria for craft beers, honest cocktails, and the neighborhood's most delicious burger. A lively gastropub with a hip vibe, brick-&-beam interior, intimate garden and upscale pub fare. Whether it's your welcome event or a small wedding reception, we offer exclusive spaces to host your next celebration. From our brand new private room Sidekick, to our intimate patio the Glass House, we're Astoria's favorite neighborhood haunt for good reason! We look forward to making your next event vibrant, joyous and delicious!

Why you'll love this venue

  • Provides a dedicated team on-site

We had our City Hall wedding this summer and chose Sweet Afton & The Sidekick for our evening celebration with about 70 guests, and we truly could not have been happier with the experience. We hosted an open bar with a spread of small bites, and both the drinks and food were fantastic. The cocktails were so well made, the food was delicious, and our guests loved everything. Our bartender was wonderful and kept the drinks coming all night. At one point, our group ordered about 10 Old Fashioneds at once, and she just got right to work making them all! Tali, the event manager, was absolutely wonderful to work with from beginning to end. In the weeks leading up to the event, she walked us through all the details from lighting, flowers, food, event flow, to the disco ball, and even things I never would have thought to ask about myself. She was thoughtful, organized, and incredibly helpful. One of my favorite examples of how game Tali was for all our ideas happened during a planning meeting. I wanted to test how the speakers would sound for a dance performance, and it happened to be raining. Tali still went outside and stood in the rain so I could properly test the sound! We learned that she is also a dancer, so she completely understood the cause. On our wedding night, she even helped cue the music for the performance. That really sums up what it was like working with her. She was there running the show throughout the evening, but everything happened so seamlessly that you almost couldn't tell she was there. The team was also incredibly flexible about letting us make the celebration feel like our own. We brought our own flowers, had a live sketch artist, planned a dance performance, and even had the option to bring our own dessert. At our request, they also reserved two tables for our families and made sure our older parents had chairs with backs so they would be comfortable throughout the night. The space itself is beautiful, but it really comes alive at night. Between the exposed brick, colorful lighting, candlelight, and a classic NYC feel, the venue had such a warm, intimate atmosphere. Our photos turned out beautifully against the colorful backdrop. There were also thoughtful touches on the day of the event, including printed drink and food menus created specifically for our celebration, which looked beautiful, polished, and professional. Most importantly, we were able to actually enjoy our own party. Everything felt taken care of, our guests had a wonderful time, and the night felt exactly like the celebration we had imagined. We are so grateful to Tali and the entire Sweet Afton & The Sidekick team for making our wedding celebration so fun, beautiful, and memorable. We would absolutely recommend them for a wedding or special event!

We had our wedding on the rooftop of Greats of Craft in September. We COULD NOT be happier with how the event turned out!!! First and foremost, Joe & Stella are awesome to work with - such friendly and genuine people. They made the planning process as stress-free as it could be, by being communicative, dependable, and accommodating. We already loved the venue, but meeting with them made it an easy decision to choose GoC. We held a mini-ceremony and the reception on the rooftop for 60 people. We wanted it to be less formal (like an “elevated party”) but still trendy, and GoC checked all the boxes. The vibes and setting were PERFECTION: the backdrop of the Queensboro Bridge at dusk for our ceremony; cute string lights with a brick wall and large screen for our slideshow, perfect weather, plenty of room for people to mingle, sit down to eat, and dance. The ENTIRE GoC team/staff were amazing. They were attentive, friendly, and took great care of us and all of our guests. Shout out to Trey and Eddie!! We went with in-house catering for the food - Chef Chris is the best and everything tasted delicious!!! We got SO many compliments on the food from our guests. We still continue to rave about GoC being such a gem of an event space. Trying to find a reasonably-priced, high-quality wedding venue in NYC is difficult and sometimes discouraging. We feel so fortunate that we were able to have our wedding celebration here, it felt like a complete DREAM!!! Thank you, Joe & Stella and the whole GoC crew!!

We are so glad we booked our reception at pàn! Yuki was wonderful to work with and we were able to plan our event in 4 months time. We had 100 guests, which felt like the perfect amount for a seated dinner with full buyout of the restaurant, and we also had a cocktail hour in the yard (separate rental). We received so many compliments from our guests on the food (taste, quantity, and gluten-free options), drink menu, and service. The space is lovely and requires minimal decoration, and booking a restaurant where everything came a package deal made planning super easy. Wouldn't change a thing!

Where to even begin? We came across FTP when our original venue fell through and immediately fell in love with the space and could tell the team there was dedicated to making our wedding day perfect. Rachel and Ariella are attentive, easy going, and a joy to have been able to work with. From the first space tour through the actual wedding they were always around to answer questions or spitball ideas and are very open to requests. The venue itself is simple yet beautiful and the spaces worked really well for our ceremony, dinner and dance floor. And now for the best part....THE FOOD!! This was something extremely important to us when booking and since the wedding we have gotten nothing but rave reviews from all of our guests. Easily the best wedding food we have ever had and their cocktail program is no joke either! Wedding budgeting can be stressful and FTP made it so easy along to way to track our costs and were very up front about everything. With all of the in-house perks they have (catering, florals, vibes, etc.) I think this is one of the best venues in NYC right now. Hoping that we get invited to another wedding there in the future!

It’s perfect for engagement parties, small wedding receptions, welcome parties, and after-parties.

Where to begin...from the first time we met with Angie (the events director) all the way to our wedding day, she and the rest of the staff blew right past any expectations we could ever have and literally delivered our dream wedding. Our guests raved about how much fun they had and it cannot be overstated how much of that is due to the incredible atmosphere of the venue and the amazing people working there. They just made everything so easy. It goes without saying that Threes has top-notch beers, wine and cocktails that kept us and our guests very happy, but we have to give a special shoutout to THE FOOD. We opted for the Gotham Smash Burger (with an option for an Impossible patty for vegetarian/vegan guests) as our entree and I had multiple people tell me it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding, the best kale caesar salad they'd ever had period, and one of the vegetarian guests told me it was the best veggie burger she'd ever had in her life. Threes at Franklin Kent could not have been a more perfect place for our wedding. If you are looking for a laid-back yet elevated and romantic Brooklyn brewery vibe for your special day, look no further. They will take superb care of you!

There are too many good things to say. Fandi Mata is a beautiful space that really captures the feeling of Brooklyn. Everyone raved about the food and the plants and just how unique it felt as a wedding venue. It was intimate and fun and lively. Our guests also raved about how good the food was, and the drinks and cocktails were equally yummy. The service was impeccable; the staff was so friendly and present throughout. Ivana, the in-house coordinator, runs this venue like a well oiled machine. You are in amazing hands, and I never had to worry about a thing leading up to the event or on the day. I truly felt like a guest in my own wedding because of her thoughtfulness, rigor, and professionalism. Of all the venues in the city, I really think that Fandi Mata has the complete package for a very fair price based on how naturally beautiful it is inside and how much comes with the experience. They don’t upsell you and let you work with whichever vendors you’d like. We knew as soon as we walked in this was it for us, and every interaction with Ivana and the team proved that out. I’d recommend also looking them up on Reddit because there are a lot of good, in depth reviews there, too. That’s how I originally found this venue. Thank you so much, Ivana & Fandi Mata!!!!

Working with Gracyn, Julie, and the team at Rule of Thirds for our wedding was a pleasure and a breeze from start to finish! It was the first and only venue that we looked at, and we fell in love with the space/vibe and the food. We used their recommended vendors list to secure our planner (shout out to the amazing Anita Pandian at Morton Street Events) who has a ton of experience working at the venue, and she helped us find all of our vendors from there, resulting in a dream team of experts who had all worked together before. Communication with the Rule of Thirds team was 10/10, as was their attention to detail. The tasting was SO MUCH FUN, and we absolutely loved the wedding day itself. On the wedding day, we didn't have to lift a finger or think about a thing - everything that was previously discussed and planned was executed to a T. If there were any hiccups, they were addressed behind the scenes without involving us, allowing us to have an amazing time in a beautiful space with all of our loved ones. We had our ceremony in the round under the skylight, which felt so cozy and intimate. The space itself is striking at baseline, with a minimalist, industrial feel, which we loved. We chose to incorporate florals, which were beautiful, but we never felt pressured to go overboard with décor because the space is so striking on its own. We'd choose Rule of Thirds for our wedding again and again without hesitation. From the incredible team to the beautiful space and amazing food, it was everything we hoped for and more.

We got married at The Milling Room on 12/9/23, with our family and closest friends in attendance (109 people). The entire team did a great job throughout the event. We were thrilled with how everything turned out. It's difficult to find a restaurant on the UWS that can accommodate a traditional ceremony and serve 110 people for dinner. The Milling Room did it so well! We would choose this venue all over again.

We hosted our Welcome Party at Panzon and it was amazing!!! The planning process was incredibly easy and they were such easy people to work. We opted to have an open bar and it did not disappoint! The staff was incredible and the service was so fast. We did platters of different tacos, chips and guac, and mini tuna tostadas. The tuna tostadas were so delicious and a crowd favorite! We bought out the whole restaurant and our guests loved mingling in the space but also spreading into the backyard for some breathing room. We wanted to have a few speeches and the owners were so kind as to buy a microphone that would hook into their sound system. Everyone went above and beyond and next thing you know, our guests made a dance floor! 100/10 would recommend for an event, or even just dinner in Greenpoint! Love this place so much and can’t wait to go back soon!

Having a Celebration of Life was definitely more focused on the positives of a sad occasion but it's nonetheless stressful. You still have all of the responsibilities of the hostess and getting your relatives there on time and making decisions prior to the event. I can't thank the staff at the Benjamin enough for guiding me through the process and for handling everything when we got there. I really didn't feel like I had much to handle when we got there. We were able to decorate the way we wanted to and were provided with a tv to run a slide show. One more thing...the food was great!
