Amazing Event BUT
I want to start by saying that at the end of the day, my husband and I had an incredible wedding at The Box House Hotel. The ambiance was fantastic and the lighting was stunning. The event was beautifully executed however, the path leading up to that day was far from easy. The primary method of communication with the planners and Abbas was via email, which consistently required multiple follow-ups and several days to receive a response. When we did get replies, they often addressed outdated questions, implying that staff were not reading the most recent messages in the thread. After months of this, we sent a respectful email to Abbas and Robyn outlining our concerns and sharing feedback— this was never acknowledged. When I tried calling the hotel, the front desk staff were cold and unhelpful. They frequently placed me on long holds and offered little-to-no assistance in connecting me with the planning or sales team. They would often say try again in 10 minutes after a long hold. The hotel’s room block/booking system is antiquated. Guests cannot book online and instead have to call the hotel with a code to access the group rate. We were informed WAY late in the process that the hotel would price-match lower rates found on other websites—something we only learned after one of our guests noticed a major price discrepancy. Additionally, when we requested updates on the latest room booking numbers for our block, it often took days to receive a response. I had confirmed multiple times with the day-of coordinator about dropping off items on a specific day. When we attempted to reach her, we received no response and again, the front desk was not helpful and told us storage was full because there was a wedding on the Friday before us. It was also apparent, based on her comments and questions when we did arrive, that she had not read the recent emails detailing our latest requests. I additionally confirmed with her that certain items—extra mirrors and a folding table for the hair and makeup artists—would be in the room on the morning of the wedding. These were not there. After several pushes with the front desk, they were eventually delivered, but the delay set back the hair and makeup schedule. When we sent our after party playlist one day before the wedding, the day of coordinator suddenly told us we needed to bring an iPad. Our responses were unacknowledged. Luckily she was wrong and this was not the case. Lastly, the day-of coordinator was rude to my husband. In the middle of the reception, she went over him while he was eating and asked how everything was going, to which he replied “everything is fantastic”. Her response was, “That’s so great to hear. From one controlling person to another controlling person it means even more.” My husband was barely involved in the wedding planning and had no clue where this came from. While the wedding itself was wonderful and most of the staff were kind, our planning experience was unnecessarily stressful. I would hesitate to recommend this venue to a friend—or anyone— unless you have your own planner (which might be tough given the 25% administrative fee) because of the communication and coordination challenges we faced.
Great night at a great venue
Our wedding was a blast! The team at Box House Events was helpful and supportive right from the start, and all the way through our incredible wedding day. They made it easy to plan ahead, with organized documents and regular check-ins. On wedding day, they made sure we felt comfortable, offering last minute additions and taking care of smaller details while we focused on family, friends, photos and more. Overall, the venue was a fun, beautiful, non-traditional option for a great wedding night (it was cold though, on the roof in late November!). Our guests continue to rave about the food and drinks, and it was such a blast to have a party with views of the New York skyline. Thank you Box House Events!
The Box House was the perfect wedding venue
Every detail about our wedding reception at the Box House Hotel was perfect. The planning process was smooth and seamless - Daryna, Mariah, Mariel, and Nick were all communicative, accommodating, helpful, and friendly. Additionally, Daryna and Mariah were on top of everything at the reception and made the day so much easier for us. The food and drinks were delicious, the space looked beautiful, and the staff was great. We would highly recommend The Box House Hotel to anyone looking to have their wedding in NYC - it really was the perfect place to celebrate!
Magical Night
Our guests were enchanted by the skyline views and the delicious bites and drinks. Everyone was very impressed by the turnover from ceremony space to reception. It was incredibly quick and smooth. The team was a well oiled machine, They handled every transition and any small hiccup with precision and grace. The personal attention given to the couple throughout the reception was greatly appreciated. The attention to detail day of was a wonderful contrast to their more hands-off approach to the pre-planning. The front desk staff at the hotel provided exceptional service from handling questions about the room block to tracking down and setting up a pack and play for the littlest guest. Every staff member that we encountered was professional, warm, and welcoming.
