How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married here on Sunday 9/29 and I really can’t say enough good things about this space. The team was great to work with and all of our guests were so impressed by the space because it’s not like anything else really. I LOVED having the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in one room because we wasted almost no part of our day shepherding folks from place to place. The caterer recommended to us, Premier, was also amazing and they were on it and had many great suggestions to make the day as great as possible as they work in the space often. If you want outdoor photos before we found two great little parks to work with and ended up doing our first look and family portraits at “Leather City Commons” which is a three minute drive down the street. Then the two of us walked the ten minute walk back to Olio from there and got some great photos by Peabody City Hall and there are truly a plethora of great brick walls to choose from for a good backdrop! For getting ready we stayed at the Bell Inn and Tavern and their team was also amazing! I got ready in a Junior King Suite my parents were staying in and their team flipped the bridal suite early (as they had a wedding party the night before) so we could do bridal portraits with the moms and my sister. My husband and I stayed there that night and the room is gorgeous. My only regret with that space is we didn’t stay longer because it was so beautiful!!! (And the room service food we ordered from the tavern for lunch was great!) Shout out specifically to Kelsey and Heather for all of their help. Logistically I was a little nervous about it being in Peabody as we live closer to Boston but parking is free on Sundays and folks could Uber easily to the venue. Many out of town folks loved being able to stay near Salem to make it a great weekend trip. Last, I cannot recommend enough having a day of coordinator. I know Sarah who runs Olio has her own planning company and would be amazing to work with. I was lucky enough to have an amazing coworker and friend who helped me out and I literally gave him a binder with everything and I did not stress about anything for the entire day. I did not see my cell phone or get asked a single logistics question all day and it was GLORIOUS. I think that covers everything and will absolutely update if I think of anything else that can help out future brides considering this great space!!!”

It's particularly beautiful for a fall/winter "dinner party" vibe (which is what we were looking for) with the dark wood and dim lights. “I could not say enough good things about this venue. We're SO glad we decided to get married at The Boylston Rooms! The pictures show for themselves how beautiful the venue (and surrounding areas for photography) are, but the staff are what make this place extra special. From start to finish, everyone we worked with was nothing but professional. They were clear and timely communicators, helped troubleshoot things during the planning process, and came with loads of wedding wisdom that helped set us up for success on the big day. When the big day came, I also appreciated how often their staff checked in - even to make sure I was eating (it's the small things!) - and were ready to jump into support anywhere. A special shout out to Myles, who played a supporting role during our wedding portraits, helping me to keep my very long veil under control! A few other things I'll mention: - Their storage room filled with decor you can borrow is SO helpful. Less that you need to buy (and potentially waste post-wedding) and can even make decision-making easier when there are 1,000 versions of the same item online. - Their wedding suites are great to have available too. Obviously for getting ready, but it's also a nice reprieve if you need a quiet moment during the reception. - The Boylston Rooms only works with one caterer, Myer's Catering. Our guests are STILL raving about the food. (There's more flexibility with other vendors). - The Boylston Rooms also owns/is affiliated with The Wedding Day Trolley, which we used to transport our guests to/from the hotel. My partner and I also took some super fun photos inside of the trolley!”

“We were absolutely thrilled with our experience at Walden Chicago. From the moment we toured the venue with Maria, we knew it was the perfect place for our November 2024 wedding. A huge added perk that we quickly learned was going to make a huge difference in our wedding planning experience was the included in-house planning team. Kalila and Alyssa supported us from beginning to end. Throughout the planning process both Kalila and Alyssa were attentive and responsive. Whether they were recommending vendors, answering one of many questions, helping us sort through rehearsal dinner options, or navigating final meetings and details they were with us through every step of the way. The online planning tool you gain access to through Walden helps you stay organized and makes sure you don’t forget any detail (big or small). When we had a slight mishap with our cake the day of the wedding they had already reached out to the bakery on our behalf before the wedding was over and a partial refund for the cake was secured by the next morning. Our wedding day ran smoothly thanks to Kalila and Alyssa. I felt as though I did not have to worry about a thing. The planning team handled all communication with vendors and kept us on schedule which allowed for us both to be very present on our big day. I have to highlight the spacious bridal suite as it was the perfect place to start the day. With 9 bridesmaids, a mother of the bride and a mother of the groom you naturally worry about any space feeling cramped but the separate getting ready stations and lounge area allowed everyone to be relaxed and comfortable the morning of the wedding and throughout the wedding day. This was also the perfect space to be tucked away post ceremony to enjoy our first moments together as newlyweds. Walden had our signature drinks and the appetizers waiting for us to enjoy a quiet moment alone before heading down to join our cocktail hour. The rooftop at golden hour made for some breathtaking photos, the ceremony space lit with candles crated the perfect ambiance for our Friday evening ceremony, and the cocktail and reception spaces decorated to fit our vision made for the most memorable day. After the tasting party a few months prior to the wedding, we knew the food and drinks were going to be a stand out part of the evening. Because we were given multiple options for appetizers, salads, mains and drinks, we were really able to personalize the menus to our taste. Guests raved about our food and drinks. We were told by nearly every guest that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Walden seamlessly accommodated various guests food restrictions and allergies as well. As we look back on our wedding day, all we can do is smile. The combination of the beautiful spaces, top-notch planning, and incredible food and drinks made our special day even more memorable. We highly recommend Walden to any couple looking to make their Chicago wedding dreams come true.”

“I cannot say enough fabulous things about Itasca country club & its staff. We were at our wits end searching for venues and then decided let’s check out the country club. We were amazed by how beautiful the space was both inside and outside. It was a no brainer from there. We worked with Genny as our coordinator and she helped keep things organized and on track but was equally a calming presence. She took over at the midway point as we had a different point of contact and she did so with grace. Our meeting with her 2 weeks out helped us feel like she had everything under control and alleviated our stress. The wedding day was beautiful, so many places to take photos outdoors! “This venue is beautiful!! We got married here in April (Mountainside ceremony, Colorado room cocktail hour and Albert’s lodge reception). It was the perfect Colorado backdrop for our out of town guests. The venue provides the chairs for ceremony, shuttle services between the ceremony and reception, and kept the fireplaces running throughout the night but the external vendors take care of pretty much everything else. Just remember that because of preferred/required vendors everything adds up quickly! We did have a great experience with all of the recommended and required vendors. The one thing I would have changed about the venue is if they could have opened the Colorado room wall/doors. It was 80 degrees but they don’t open them until after May 1.”

Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. “BOOK WITH NAZARETH HALL!! I can not say enough good things about this wedding venue. First of all it’s gorgeous!!! And they checked all of our boxes and more. We were looking for an all inclusive venue and that is just what they do. Venue, catering, alcohol and ceremony and reception all in one place! Their wedding coordinators make the wedding planning process so easy. They were available for any email or phone call any time. They provide you with a preferred vendor book which is amazing and helped us pick ALL of our vendors. The food and bar service were great and I got so many compliments from family and friends. Last but not least they provide you with a day of coordinator! She took all the stress away on the wedding day, communicated with the preacher, musicians, etc and made sure everyone was lined up correctly! As a bride I couldn’t appreciate this enough! She also brought my husband and I drinks all night so we could stay with family and friends and dance and didn’t have to worry about going down to the bar. Nazareth hall is amazing and I can’t say enough great things about them! If you are looking for a wedding venue look no further!”
