In 2013, my passion for flowers started when I landed a job at a local flower shop. Entranced by the art, I fell head over heels in love with the intricacies of designing something new & special for a specific individual. I immersed myself, continually discovering new techniques & experimenting. My traditional design skills mixed with my trained eye from the fashion industry has helped shape what my design style is today- whimsical, ethereal, & extremely detailed. I consider my arrangements & installations to be a sculptures & am inspired by nature and it’s immense growth & colors, Dutch Master paintings, & the 60s psychedelic movement.

Katya Rusin established Lavka Flowers with the singular goal of revisioning the sentiment and enjoyment of what was once a humble act; the giving and accepting of flowers. As the lead designer, Katya is inspired most by art and it's a visual quality that connects people. She translates this visual quality through the use of color to transform individual flowers into a collective whole. Katya achieves her designs by utilizing the elements of design with an appreciation for texture.

When the Architecture Industry took a toll on her, she decided to quit architecture, master the art of floral design, and open a flower shop.

Stems Brooklyn specializes in garden style designs that feel natural, organic, and textural. We like to play with color and experiment with funky materials and unexpected combinations. Above all, our design work focuses on the natural aspects and personalities of the materials we are using, we always aim to reflect and express what our flowers and stems would do in nature. We work hard and smart to never use floral foam, a toxic and carcinogenic material, compost and recycle all materials post wedding, and encourage our couples to donate their wedding flowers and support our friends at Bloom Again Brooklyn.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I started my career as a pediatric occupational therapist. I slowly developed my side hobby of designing florals and photographing into a side business until I was unable to practice both careers any longer.
