How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“To say Emily and the team at GBC made our dreams come true is an understatement. From the moment we met, we were immediately impressed with her positive attitude, attention to detail, and organization. We fell in love with the venue initially, but now upon reflecting, it was the collective efforts of the staff of Galilee Beach Club that we will forever cherish and appreciate for the rest of our lives. Emily patiently listened and worked hard throughout the entire process, answering endless emails from me, while collaborating with Chris the general manager, Chef Rob, and the rest of her event staff to make all of our ideas come to life. Emily’s planning meetings along the way were focused, thorough, and super informative. She made time (even during her hectic season) for us, always. We trusted her completely with our vision and she knocked it out of the park. For me, I was in awe of her attention to the little things… the plate of hors douerves delivered to the bridal suite for us right after the ceremony, the signature drinks in our toasting flutes during dinner, the floating candles she suggested for the sweetheart table, right down to Emily locating our missing marriage license moments before the ceremony! She did it all with grace and ease. I could trust Emily and her team to set up all of the decor without an ounce of worry and on top of the beautiful set-up, Emily and her team packed up everything (and I mean everything!) into my car that night which truly was an unbelievable service. Chris, the General Manager, was our officiant and he was incredible. We had only met Chris a handful of times before we got married, but we felt as if he was one of our good friends. He knew exactly what we were looking for and we couldn’t have asked for a better ceremony. And the food! Everything was out of this world. Multiple guests claimed the short rib was the best they ever had. Chef Rob’s seared tuna steaks were prepared to perfection, even impressing a room full of tuna fisherman, which is certainly not an easy feat! “THE GOOD STUFF The Grange fit our needs really well for a 50 person baby shower. With the setup we chose, the room felt full but not crowded and allowed for ample room for people to move around. The fireplace added a nice atmosphere without making the room hot. The bathrooms and space were clean when we arrived. The Grange offers several table options which made it super easy for us to setup a kids zone, silent trivia area, and guest tables. Given that tables and chairs are included in the rental fee, it is fairly priced. A FEW BUMMERS While we wanted to have the garage doors open for an open-air feeling, it seemed that even the smallest bit of wind would knock over all of our decorations. Because we couldn't have the garage doors open, we did confine everything to indoors which changed our plans a bit with outdoor yard games as it wasn't super intuitive to go outside to the covered patio. We also would have liked to have been asked about the signage The Grange put outside. We had a co-ed baby shower but when we pulled up, the sign only listed the mother-to-be's name. Not a huge deal, but definitely could have been avoided. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS A few things to note that may be important to you: 1. All setup, teardown, and cleaning is YOUR responsibility. So, if you don't want to haul tables and chairs, take out the trash, and mop the floor, this venue is not for you. (Note: We were made well aware of this prior to booking so it isn't a surprise but definitely a big consideration as it cuts into your rental time.) 2. The microphone works well for the main room but is very difficult to hear in the "back area" where the restrooms and food counters are. 3. When working on your budget, be sure to factor in the cost of getting event insurance as this is required and is an additional cost. (Again, we were made aware of this in advance so it wasn't a surprise.) 4. No table coverings/linens/tablecloths are provided so be sure you factor this into planning and your budget.”

“Milton Ridge was an incredible place to get married! The beauty of the venue and the inclusive wedding options (i.e. catering, DJ, etc.) made this the absolute perfect place to say, "I do!" The getting ready suites were superb & made the day of preparation before the ceremony seamless. The chapel was so beautiful and such a great little spot off the side of 355. Our guests still comment on the simplicity of how we decorated the chapel, and how beautiful the white walls and natural light streaming in were during the ceremony. I was not sure how we'd get group photos on the property... and our photographers were able to use the beautiful stone and green areas within the venue to capture the most beautiful photos of the bride, groom and the wedding party! Guests are still RAVING about how convenient it was to walk up a few stairs to the cocktail hour AND into the reception. They marveled at the ease... park your car, attend the ceremony and then stay and party all night long until it's time to leave! The reception hall was beautiful; the buffet food was to die for; and Meghan and Brandi ensured that EVERY detail of our wedding day was accounted for, seamless and flowing without any hitch! I cannot recommend Milton Ridge enough! Thank you for making our wedding day the most memorable and BEST day of our lives! We owe it to this team, this venue and their support with planning our wedding every step of the way!”

“We just had our wedding at Fallbrook Estate this past Friday and are still in awe at how perfect it all was! We were paired with Alyson as our wedding coordinator and let me say WHAT AN ABSOLUTE ANGEL AND ROCKSTAR she is. The planning process was very transparent and easy. Alyson was very responsive to emails, and made changes as needed. She was extremely supportive of our decisions and was quick to make changes to our online forum via email. We met in person about 3 times and she truly made us feel that our wedding day was about US and encouraged us to make decisions on what we liked and what worked for us. We are also not the "micro-managing" type and gave her free rein to make decoration details/changes (arranging our photos or signs to where she thought it would be best) the day of. Wedding day: We had the luck of having rain on our wedding day which was fine considering we had a "backup" option of the pavilion for our ceremony instead of using it for cocktail hour. And GOOD GOD it was still so beautiful! I'm glad we were able to develop a good relationship with Alyson, because it was easy to trust her and let her take care of all the last minute changes with our ceremony being moved from into covered pavilion. With the rain, we were of course nervous and unsure of what to expect and Alyson was cool, calm and collected. She brought just such great positivity and made the day so much better. #goodvibesonly The staff members were so great in moving chairs/items around quickly, quietly and efficiently. Even having assistance moving bridal things from the Putnam room to the bridal suite in the Barn was seamless. Food: 12/10 - could not get enough of it!! So many of our guests told us how AMAZING the food was (several guests told us it was the best wedding food they've ever had) and all our deserts were gone!! We also really appreciate that appetizers were brought to us in our bridal suite and to our table after cocktail hour for us (the couple) to enjoy. Most people say they never get a chance to eat at their wedding - not us! Alyson made sure we were taken care of with food and drinks. Overall experience: 100000/10, would highly recommend. Literally ZERO regrets. For reference, we got married on Columbus Day weekend 2025 :)”

“We got married in April here and it was amazing! The venue is beautiful and there is a lot of space. My planner, Madison, was very helpful during the process and would answer any questions I had. Our coordinators Janeen and Jackie were awesome! They helped make the day flow perfectly and if we needed anything they were on top of it! The DJ was great as well and was included in the package. The only compliant I have was that they ran out of food even though less people showed up then in our final guest count. We got the steak option and it was delicious but the portions they gave out were small and they somehow still ran out...”

“Normanside was the first venue we looked at and honestly anything after it just didn't compare. We kept finding ourselves coming back to Normanside as our favorite for several reasons. We really wanted a ceremony outside but reception indoors (for A/C) which they offered (and on top of that, the outside patio has an awning incase of rain, you're covered, literally). The packages offered are extremely reasonable. With several options and add-ons available we were really able to customize exactly what we wanted. We also loved that everythinge is on one level (as we had some guests unable to do stairs). The finished patio off the bar is beautiful. Our guests loved playing cornhole during cocktail hour and throughout the evening. Jaimie was awesome and on top of things every step of the way. She was easy to work with, very responsive any time we reached out and always professional. Jaimie and Dave were very accommodating to our wants and needs. From the scenery to the staff and everything in between Normanside made our wedding what it was. We couldn't be more thankful we choose them as our venue.”

“So happy with WW. They answered all questions I had throughout the process and were easily accessible. The Retreat was such a beautiful venue and they did such a great job. A lot of our guests said “it was the most beautiful wedding they’ve ever been to”. Super on top of it! I’m a little neurotic with planning in general and they followed instructions perfectly and even went above and beyond. Only issue - don’t get Tom as your DJ, or else you’ll be disappointed because he doesn’t do remixes or follows instructions diligently. He was good at making announcements, but as far as music goes, I would have been better off playing music off of my phone. They have a DJ that you’re required to use as part of the package because it’s in a residential neighborhood, but they do have other DJ’s aside from Tom. Otherwise everything else that WW did was fantastic.”
