My husband and I had our wedding on October 19th at Avonlea Farms and could not have asked for a more perfect venue, from the beautiful grounds to the amazing staff and owners. When we first toured, saw the greenhouse, and met Debbie and Clint, we knew that this had to be the place for our special day - and obviously made the right choice. I would recommend that anyone looking for a gorgeous and unique venue choose Avonlea Farms for their wedding as well! While we got a spot of rain during the reception, the pavilion and greenhouse thankfully kept everyone dry so the party could keep going. The bridal suite and groom’s cottage are perfect places to get ready, with plenty of space and all the amenities you could need! The lovely owners are also constantly making improvements, we were happily surprised with the addition of a paved path through the church pews and the new chandeliers in the vintage greenhouse. Thank you for hosting our special day, and making everything so easy and beautiful!

Special thanks to the venue coordinator, Katie, who made the planning process so easy and stress-free. She was attentive, responsive, and truly went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. With Richmond just 11 miles away, your guests will enjoy convenient access.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Offers convenient lodging options
  • Space for a large guest list
  • Provides a dedicated team on-site

Venue considerations

  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
We had our daughter’s September 2025 wedding at Virginia Crossings in Glen Allen, Va (Richmond area). It is a boutique plantation-style hotel on 20 acres with a street lamp lined curving drive up to the main buildings. Our guests raved about the gorgeous estate-like grounds, the service, and the delicious, beautifully presented food. Many of our guests have lived in the Richmond area for years and never realized Virginia Crossings existed. It’s such a hidden gem! Chef Ashby knocked it out of the park with the cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres and plated dinner entrees. The portions were huge and so yummy! I’m still dreaming about the salmon with English pea puree and risotto. The wedding package prices are reasonable for what you get. Packages range from 110 to 140 per person (plus a 23% admin fee, taxes, and tips) and include a 4 hour open bar, 4 passed and 2 stationary hors d’oeuvres for cocktail hour, 3 course plated or buffet dinner, cake cutting, champagne toast for all guests, a Day of Coordinator and assistant, floor length linens and choice of napkin color, upgraded china, all glassware and silverware, tables and chairs, 5 hours of event time, ample getting ready spaces for both bridal parties, and a night’s stay in the Bridal Suite for the bride and groom. If you choose to have your ceremony on site, there is a 2000 site fee. You can get married in the lovely outdoor courtyard garden or other outdoor space, the interior Madison Lobby or in one of the smaller event rooms. Their rain plan is exceptional. It rained on my daughter’s wedding day, and they didn’t miss a beat. And because the interior spaces are so beautiful, there were plenty of spots for great pictures inside. Because the property has a hotel building, 2/3 of our 137 guests stayed on site for the whole weekend. Our family members who arrived on Thursday told us that the grounds crew was busy mowing, weeding, and trimming to make everything look perfect. And they saw cleaning crews in all the public areas scrubbing and polishing until the hotel sparkled. The hotel staff also handed out our Welcome Bags to our guests as they checked in. Without a doubt, the BEST thing about having a wedding at Virginia Crossings was working with Jeffery Ward in conference and event sales. He, his assistant Elise, and his staff worked incredibly hard to make our daughter’s wedding flow seamlessly. He managed all our vendors, ran the rehearsal, organized the bridal party, kept us on track with our timeline, and even helped bustle the bride’s dress. Jeffery also executed our vision for the cocktail hour and ballroom spaces flawlessly! When the doors to the ballroom opened for dinner, I rushed in so that I could see it all decorated before it filled with our guests. And it literally took my breath away! It was BEAUTIFUL!!! So romantic and dreamy!

The Workshop was everything I hoped for in a wedding venue — a true blank canvas that allowed me to bring my personal style to life. Kerith was incredibly helpful from the start, clearly outlining what was already available in the space (tables, linens, chairs, hurricanes, and more) and what could be customized. I chose to rent and bring in a few items of my own to complete the look I envisioned, and Kerith was supportive every step of the way — even helping with some of the custom touches herself. What really sets The Workshop apart is its flexibility. Weddings aren’t one-size-fits-all, and having access to a variety of décor options already on-site made it so much easier to create a celebration that felt uniquely ours. Even better — so many of these items were included in the rental, which helped us stay within budget without sacrificing style. Kerith is clearly building something special: a community-centered space where people can celebrate life’s biggest moments without breaking the bank. In a world where weddings can quickly become overwhelming and expensive, it’s refreshing to see a venue that encourages sharing and sustainability. I truly believe more brides should be talking about spaces like this. The Workshop isn’t just a venue; it’s part of a movement to make beautiful events more accessible for everyone.

We had our ceremony in the courtyard on a Sunday afternoon. There was a storm earlier that day and the staff spent an hour or more clearing the debris from the area before our event. They had a rain plan, but thankfully we didn’t have to use it. The courtyard is beautiful and shady. We had our ceremony facing the fountain and were able to decorate it how we wanted. The entire facility is beautiful and great for pictures. Casey was very responsive and helpful throughout the process. Alexa was our day of contact and she was amazing! The space is not very ADA friendly but Casey made sure that there was a ramp and special parking for our guest that needed it. All of our guests said it was a beautiful space. Several stayed in the hotel for the weekend and really enjoyed it. We got a suite which was beautiful and large enough for the bridal party to get ready in. We had hair and make up come to us for 5 people and had plenty of space. Overall, it was great and the staff was amazing.

The John Marshall Ballrooms

5.0

Richmond, VA
  • Up to 300 guests

  • Starts at $6,500

The Hotel John Marshall opened in 1929 as the largest hotel in Virginia. Its rooms welcomed Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Tyler Moore, and Elvis Presley along with political figures such as Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter. After sitting vacant for over 20 years (save a few attempts to open) the building recently underwent an $80 Million renovation, spanning two years of construction to strip it back to the bones and restore it to its original 1920's grandeur.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Full catering menu to choose from
  • Bridal suite on site
  • Has a dance floor to dance the night away

Venue considerations

  • On-site parking not available
  • Lighting and sound are not included
  • Not for you if you are drawn to more unconventional venues
Absolutely, hands down the best venue. I would have my wedding there again. Maria and her stuff were the easiest of people to work with. Everything from the food and decor, to drinks and table settings; everyone worked to make it the best day ever. Having in house catering is underrated and more people should choose a venue like The John Marshall and Homemade by Suzanne’s. When you have a 2 in 1 great deal like this you don’t have to worry about coordinating things yourself, which is a huge plus when you plan your own wedding!! Both my husband and I are so grateful for everything. It made the day go so smoothly and stress free. The ballrooms being beautiful just make the whole venue come together. 1000% would recommend having your wedding here!!

We had the most wonderful experience working with A Little Wedding Garden for our wedding. From our very first interaction, the staff was friendly, professional, and respectful. They went above and beyond to make sure our day was truly special. The area itself was absolutely beautiful, with lots of lovely floral decor that created a truly romantic atmosphere. The perfect venue and team through and through! We spent our entire wedding weekend at Seven Springs, having our rehearsal dinner Friday evening in the Carriage House and staying on site throughout the weekend. It was an amazing location that had everything we wanted, and had plenty of space for our bridal party to stay on site as well. The venue goes above and beyond the stately driveway and Manor House – the outdoor ceremony site is immaculately maintained, the courtyard has the perfect blend of enchanting and cozy, and the pavilion provides a wonderful area for a reception. We received so many compliments on our wedding – and to us it was perfect! None of this would have been possible without Tracy and her team. Having Tracy as our day-of coordinator at Seven Springs was one of the best decisions of our entire wedding. She was immensely helpful in planning, providing multiple vendor recommendations and keeping track of decisions as they were made. Not only did she stay organized with layouts, timelines, and vendor communication – she provided a sense of relief for us and our family and friends. There was never a moment that Tracy wasn’t there to solve anything as it came up, and allowed our bridal party and family to enjoy our wedding more as guests than needing to help with anything. We are beyond grateful for all her hard work and the amazing team at Seven Springs! If you are searching for a venue that has an elevated farm-style atmosphere while still having cottage charm traits – this is the place. I cannot emphasize enough how brilliant our weekend was, and it will continue to hold a special place in our hearts!

My now husband and I toured the venue in the Fall of 2024 while the new event space was in the process of getting built. Lori was amazing at keeping me updated on the progress and the finished product turned out amazing. I enjoyed working with the entire Hardware Hills team and would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an event space. The bridal suite is so beautiful and easily accommodated my bridal part of 6 plus other members of my family that was getting ready there that day. I am absolutely obsessed with The Market at Grelen! There is an endless amount of possibility for photos on the property. The accommodations for the day from start to finish are always so on point and breathtaking. The bride & groom suites have everything you need and sit back in a private location that makes it convenient to take pictures before the ceremony. Their options for ceremony locations are all you could ever ask for to invite all your friends and family witness your union & photographer's dream. The best part is the views that overlook the nursery with the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains that are unmatched at golden hour. The Greenhouse Reception tent has the most beautiful light any time of day & the reflection of the lights above is truly so romantic. Everywhere you look on the property makes a great photograph. The staff is so friendly and just does the best job running the show. Every wedding I've had the opportunity to photograph there has just been top notch & has gone so smoothly! Definitely consider visiting this venue & booking your dream wedding at this spectacular location!

We had the pleasure of hosting our wedding at Greenock Manor, and we could not have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, Chanel—who not only runs the venue but also served as our wedding coordinator and planner—was truly phenomenal. She is incredibly sweet, attentive, and went above and beyond to help us create a weekend we’ll never forget. Chanel connected us with amazing vendors, including our caterer, DJ, officiant, and photographer, and made the entire planning process feel seamless. She helped to ensure we were getting good prices, and she was always accommodating, communicative, responsive, and wonderfully organized, which made us feel completely at ease leading up to the big day. The venue itself is stunning—elegant, charming, and full of character. Our wedding was in late April, and the venue grounds were lush and vibrant with greenery and flowers. One of the highlights was the ample on-site lodging, which allowed the wedding party to stay with us over the weekend. Being able to spend extra time with our close friends and loved ones in such a beautiful setting made everything even more special. After the wedding, we took advantage of the fire pit on the property, and it turned out to be the perfect way to wind down with our wedding party and share a few more laughs before the weekend came to a close. We can’t recommend Greenock Manor—and Chanel—highly enough. It was everything we dreamed of and more.

The Depot in downtown Orange, Virginia is everything you could hope for in a special event venue. I have had the privilege of shooting 2 separate events in The Depot's event spaces, and I hope to return for more. Each space within the depot is thoughtfully designed with beautiful details, making it the perfect backdrop for any special celebration. I typically try to avoid indoor venues due to a general lack of quality lighting/backdrop opportunities as a photographer, but I have loved every minute that I've worked at The Depot. Everywhere you look presents a new backdrop opportunity, and the spaces are filled with ample natural light during the daytime. Working with the Grelen Events team is always a breeze, and they are eager to resolve any day-of questions or concerns. You really can't go wrong booking The Depot for your next celebration/event!

Old Metropolitan Hall is a wonderful space with a lot of history, and the downstairs area especially was great for dancing after the wedding. There was a ton of light and the space was well cared for. They had worked with our caterer, Harvest Moon, to provide specs and help with setup, and that was seamless and easy. We played our own music, and the sound system was simple to use and worked well both upstairs and downstairs. The staff were great to work with and were very responsive. The price was extremely reasonable for the excellent Downtown location and beauty of the space.

We had an absolutely incredible wedding at Eastwood in September of 2024. The views are stunning, the tent is so special and you cannot beat the location. Highly, highly recommend. The team at Eastwood is spectacular! Emma's partnership and guidance throughout the process was unparalleled. She took us up to the tent/terrace several times (more times than she needed to) as we figured out our vision for the wedding. Having the cottage on location was incredibly helpful. We were not only able to get organized in the days leading up, but also had a space for people to gather / our flower girls were able to sneak down and go down to bed a bit early too. We are so thrilled that we had our wedding at Eastwood!

Absoluetly LOVED this venue! The moment I first stepped on the property, I fell in love and *knew* this was the place my husband and I were going to get married. Angela and her staff set everything up just the way I wanted it, and it went so smoothly! There are *so* many different options of locations to have the ceremony. Due Sorelle provides plenty of tables and chairs, and the staff will set them up for you - one less thing for you to have to worry about on your big day! I also loved that we had access to the barn the night before the wedding so I could set up the reception and not have to worry about finding someone to do that the morning of. Angela was a bit confusing to communicate with at times? Just some random things here and there - asking for details, scheduling things, and some either miscommunication or lack thereof. She was super sweet! I had just wished the communication process were a little smoother. Overall I loved Due Sorelle and would absolutely recommend it to anyone!

We used the Kimpton The Forum Hotel for our wedding weekend and it was a DREAM. By far the nicest accommodations available in the Charlottesville area, and pricing-wise, it beats competitors by a mile for a much nicer experience. From the minute we arrived for our wedding weekend, staff here made us feel seen and helped us with our every request. We were able to book a suite for bride and groom and getting ready, and Shannon helped us so much in securing our room block, extending it, and coordinating our stay. We also opted to have our wedding welcome party here, which was truly perfect. A huge thank you to Jake for the wonderful support provided in planning. The bar staff was so kind and soldiered through a very hot evening outside on the Camilia Promenade (which was a BEAUTIFUL venue) and choosing to host the welcome party at the hotel was one of the best decisions we made in our wedding planning process. The food and drink were perfect. This was also a great spot for our guests, who could find something to eat at one of the restaurants when needed. We found ourselves gathered around the bar at night which was just such a lovely way to spend time together, and the accommodations themselves were so upscale and lovely. Valet staff was out of this world helpful, remembered our names, were friendly and kind...and our guests loved the happy hour in the evenings, too! I wish we could've stayed here even longer, it was truly so perfect and made us feel so special over our wedding weekend. Can't recommend enough!
