Set on Grelen Nursery's 1000-acre tree nursery, The Market at Grelen is a magical wedding venue boasting rural simplicity at it’s most luxurious! Perfect for the creative party planner, The Market at Grelen has a variety of event spaces: a greenhouse, a shade garden & berry field, a large bluestone terrace, a 4500 sq. ft. clear stargazing tent and a groomed pasture at the highest point of the nursery. ​Located in Central Virginia (only 35 minutes north of Charlottesville, one hour west of Richmond and two hours south of DC), it is PERFECT VENUE for a variety of celebrations. LGBTQ+ friendly. COMING APRIL 2027: The Market at Grelen is reaching new heights of sophistication with the unveiling of our glass conservatory. This structure will replace the current event tent and elevate the Grelen wedding experience to a new level of luxury.

A Virginia Wedding Venue for Destination, Elopement, and Garden Weddings!

With the look of a glass conservatory, The Orchard Overlook Tent is a 4500' sq. ft. clear top tent placed on a beautiful bluestone floor with clear, retractable side walls. The clear top tent gives the space a magical quality that is sure to please. The bluestone flooring also extends beyond the tent, creating a 1350 sq. ft. outdoor patio with 180 degree views of lush mountains. Please note that the top is changed to white in July & August due to heat.

    The most magical place.

    The Market at Grelen was an absolute dream venue for our wedding. From our very first interaction, the team was transparent, kind, and incredibly detailed in their communication, putting us at ease throughout the entire planning process. The space was versatile, allowing us to create the exact atmosphere we had envisioned. The stunning views help! Despite hosting many weddings throughout the year, the staff was so attentive and genuinely cared about making our big day special. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue and are so grateful to the entire team at The Market at Grelen for helping to make our wedding day truly unforgettable.

    The perfect spot!

    Grelen is both a gorgeous place to host your wedding AND a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon walking, picking fruit at the orchard, buying a few new plants, and enjoying a delicious sandwich at their cafe. Best part is if you have your wedding there, you can come back to reminisce anytime! Both weddings I've planned there have turned out exceptionally with rave reviews from clients. There's something about the atmosphere that just lets people relax, be themselves, and let loose on the dance floor! Can't wait to visit again: to work or have fun!

    Perfect venue!

    Our experience with The Market at Grelen was fantastic from start to finish. Their communication was easy, clear, and fun throughout the planning process, which really put us at ease. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and unique, and our guests raved that it was the coolest wedding venue they had ever been to. The quality of their work was amazing - the photos they captured of our special day are truly stunning and we couldn't be happier. The staff was also incredibly warm and organized, ensuring that everything went smoothly so we could simply enjoy ourselves.     The Best Hidden gem Wedding Venue in VA

    Market at Grelen is one of my favorite hidden gems, the staff is absolutely wonderful to work with and every wedding is a dream! If you are planning a wedding at any of the Grelen locations you are in the best hands and have found a little piece of heaven in Virginia!

All areas onsite are included in your rental fee. You have exclusive use of our property from 4pm - 11pm.
Suites at 10 am, Guests can begin to arrive at 4pm, with Ceremonies beginning at 5pm. Set up can begin in The Tent as early as 12:00 pm the day of your event. Set up in all other areas around the Market can begin at 3:00 pm. The Market is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday from 10 am – 4 pm.
​Yes! Included in your venue rental are (17) 72” round tables, (300) garden chairs for your ceremony and/or reception, (2) 8’ rectangular banquet tables, and (4) sets of barrel bars.
​Yes! The seasonal plants that surround The Market are available for your use complimentary. The options change weekly so specific types cannot be chosen until the week of the event. Please ask our Events Director for more information on plants that will be in season for your wedding day.
First our Events Director will send you a contract for you & your fiancé to review. Next, a 50% deposit along with a $500 refundable security deposit is required within 7 days of the signed contract to reserve your date. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your event.
​A $500 damage security deposit is required with the signed contract. This is to cover potential damage by your guests, and will be refunded 14 business days following the event. If any damages have occurred, you will be notified, and we will bill you for any repairs over and above the deposit.
​Yes, we do require that you hire at minimum, a Day Of wedding planner. Our Events Director can recommend planners based on your specific needs, and several of our preferred caterers offer Day Of wedding planning services.
​Yes! The existing outdoor lighting and landscape twinkle lighting is included in all venue areas. The Orchard Overlook Tent is strung with bistro lighting and (5) iron chandeliers. Candles are the responsibility of the client and must be contained in a votive or hurricane.
​There are several electrical outlets for your use around the Market’s Stone Terrace, Pergola, Greenhouse and Potting Shed. The Overlook Tent has two power distribution boxes offering power for your vendors. There is additional power available for catering equipment in the catering prep tent.
Wine Barrels- $50 per barrel Farm Tables- $125- 8ft, $125- 8ft, $100- 5.ft or $300 for all 3.
The Market parking is included in your rental fee and offers up to 40 spaces with parking attendants for one hour leading up to your ceremony start time. Additional parking is available for up to 100 cars for a fee of $220 which includes a lighting tower with generator for this location.

​The Market at Grelen has an extensive list of Recommended Vendors. Vendors not included in this list must be pre-approved by the Events Director.
​Yes! All entertainment vendors must be pre-approved and sign a noise ordinance agreement with The Market at Grelen. Music must stop by 11pm on Friday, Saturday & holiday Sundays and 10pm on Regular Sundays and weekdays.
The client’s team of vendors are responsible for all design, set up and tear down. Full service caterers are responsible for setup and breakdown of table and chair placement. Caterers are required to remove all trash from event and dispose in designated Market dumpsters.
​Yes! The Market at Grelen offers the perfect setting for photos! Engagement and Wedding photo shoots are INCLUDED in all immediate Market areas during business hours. Photo shoots outside of business hours are available based on availability.
Yes you may bring in your own alcohol, but all alcohol must be served by a licensed cater, guests cannot “serve themselves” at your event. Beer, wine and mixed drinks are allowed.
Yes, a one-hour rehearsal time during our business hours of 10am - 4pm is included upon request. All rehearsals are subject to approval 30 days prior, as they cannot conflict with other scheduled events.
​The Market at Grelen does not provide centerpieces. Grelen potted plants can be used as centerpieces if they are purchased outright.
​Yes! Grelen has several fire pits on property that are available for your use, weather permitting. Blow heaters for the Orchard Overlook Tent can be rented from Gibson Rental.
​The Market has an extensive rotating inventory of garden décor that is available for rent a la carte including pots, planters, lanterns, arbors, tabletop items, etc. Items are offered to rent for 20% of the sale price, or can be purchased outright with a 20% discount to confirm availability.
​Our homemade ice cream has been very popular and is becoming a staple at many Grelen weddings. Depending on the season, we have fresh berries and produce that can easily be incorporated into your day. Ask our Events Director for details on what will be in season for your wedding day.
Yes, an Events Director & Assistant is present the day of your event and included in your venue fee. On the day of setup, the Events Director & Assistant will provide coordination for key suppliers; however, all design setup is the sole responsibility of your Day of Wedding Planner.
