Ivy & Quartz Photography
Rating: 5.0 (37 reviews)
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $3,850
  • Serves Sandy Spring, MD

Hi! I'm Nina and I run Ivy & Quartz photography! I shot my first wedding in 2013, but my journey with photography began long before that. When I was about 10 years old, my dad gave me a camera and I quickly became obsessed. My intrigue continued to grow over the years and I went on to earn my BA in Studio Art , Photography, from the University of Virginia. After graduating I worked as a portrait photographer and decided to pursue and earn my MFA in Imaging Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Awarded Best of Zola
After friends shared a photo of my then fiance and me at their own wedding, we hired the photographer who took it. This was Nina! That one photo inspired us to review the gallery of their entire wedding and then her portfolio and we were blown away. 7 months later our own wedding day arrived. My husband and I are the type of people who are wildly present and constantly forget to take photographs of our life together. We knew we wanted to capture this day without the photography becoming a chore or hindering our ability to do what we do best and enjoy our time. Nina was able to provide just that and was incredible (as was the second photographer she worked with for our big day). Nina seamlessly handled all the chaotic moments and pre-ceremony stress of the very emotional bride (me) in stride! With very little direction she navigated all aspects of a wedding day with absolute poise and grace. I cannot thank her enough for taking on such leadership and just GETTING IT DONE! Nina captured all the big and tiny pieces that go into a wedding and I felt her photo choices, angles, and poses perfectly captured the essence of me and my husband's personalities. At every avenue Nina was a professional, personable, and I never expected I could be so satisfied with a collection of photographs. THANK YOU SO MUCH NINA.

My partner and I reached out to Xiao for an elopement photo shoot after we got our marriage license. Xiao is always prompt in her responses and offered seamless communication. As newbies, we were a bit confused about the steps on how to get the license, although it was not her job, Xiao gave us many tips. Our elopement photoshoot date was a bit rainy. Xiao offered a few indoor photoshoot spot options. We ultimately went with the Library of Congress, and Xiao even helped us reserve the tickets. Xiao instructed us on how to pose when we felt a bit awkward. We had so many random funny encounters with other visitors at Library of Congress and they gave us many compliments. Xiao went above and beyond to mark sure the day was special for us and that the photoshoot felt personal and fun. My partner is usually camera shy but he eventually opened up. The photos also turned around super quick. The photos came out beautiful although it was a gloomy day. We picked out a dozen photos of our choice two days after the photoshoot and Xiao made the edits turn around super smoothly. Highly recommend booking her to make your special day memorable as well!

Cesario Mendez Photography
Rating: 5.0 (27 reviews)
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Serves Sandy Spring, MD

When I am not behind the camera or editing photos, I enjoy short Uber rides to bottomless brunch on the weekends; right now mimosas and I kinda have a thing going on! I have a special relationship with bourbon and FIRMLY believe in putting food on the grill during late afternoons should be the norm. I am blessed to be married to the happiest person on earth (I am so serious), who just happens to double as my favorite person. She keeps me grounded and never fails to remind me how great she is.

Awarded Best of Zola
It was great to work with Cesar. From the moment we had our introductory call with him, we were drawn in by his authenticity, humor and laid back energy. We knew he was a good fit for a day that we wanted to keep positive, low-stress, and focused. When it came time for him to give instructions for couple and family shoots, he was confident and cool. In fact, many of our guests went out of their way to share how impressed they were with Cesar. He did a great job capturing our daytime wedding despite the quick change from cloudy and rainy to a bright springtime sun. He struck the perfect balance of positioning himself well to get great shots without being conspicuous or obtrusive. I plan to hire Cesar for other events in the future and recommend that my friends do the same.

Grace and was an absolute delight to work with for our wedding! Grace was very thorough and communicated with everyone from venue staff to the DJ to choreograph and capture everything. I fell in love with Grace's whimsical and wispy style of photography - she made sure to include everyone in the shots. Grace was punctual and went straight to capturing our final moments of getting ready, and she gave us time to socialize and enjoy our guests. I loved her creativity and willingness to take unique shots. I would definitely recommend her for any couple's day!

I'm a visual enthusiast with a degree in Arts Management. My style is mostly photojournalistic, embracing natural and romantic elements. In each wedding, my aim is to craft something different and unique, capturing a set of storytelling moments that reflect the essence of the day. What truly drives me is the moment when my clients receive the picture, and tell me how they love them. Knowing that my work will be forever cherished by others adds a meaningful layer.

Awarded Best of Zola
Working with Villa Li Photography for our wedding photos made the day amazing! Wedding photos are something that we knew we only had one chance to get right, and thanks to Villa, we have a beautiful recap of our day. From the moment we engaged with Villa we knew we had the right sense of style and organization that would capture the moment. Villa has an incredible sense of style and ability to focus on the subject and the background for the perfect composition. She has an arsenal of equipment that can be used for any setting to help adjust the light and filters to make everyone look their best! During our festivities, we had multiple venues that we needed to capture and some of those spaces were in residential homes. Villa was able to adapt to each situation and executed the photos to perfection! We love looking at what she captured in the homes that was part of our day. Not only that, but Villa also adapted to outdoor settings and then back inside for the reception venue. We covered all angles with her! Throughout the day she was calming and worked the venues to get the best photos. One of the wonderful things was her ability to get the candid shots of our guests which helped us show what a great day everyone had! Villa has a great way to share the photos and edits after the festivities. She is prompt and communicative even after the excitement has subsided. We were overjoyed with the final outcome! Whether you are getting married or need any photography assistance, make sure you speak with Villa to discuss your requirements and how she can deliver them as perfectly as she did for us! Thank you, Villa!

Are you tired of scrolling through wedding websites full of photos of shoes/calligraphy/earrings/etc. and wondering where the people are? Do you love moments more than things? If yes, you're in the right place. Forget about the table settings, instead embrace spontaneous joy and honest, natural moments.

Awarded Best of Zola
Darcy was an absolute pleasure to work with and we LOVE our photos. She truly captured the emotions of the day and the essence of all the people we love the most. Any time i look at our photos, i find myself involuntarily smiling. She captured the classic posed photos AND the precious in-between moments where people are being their most authentic selves (the face my dad makes when he's really intently listening, the hand gestures my mom uses when she's explaining something and can't find the right words, the face my mother in law makes when she's cracking herself up, the face my father in law makes right before the tears fall, and so so many more). Not ONLY are her photos amazing, but she made us feel so relaxed on the day-of. Her style is totally unobtrusive, which is just what we needed. Darcy got such amazing photos of all our guests we put 4x6" prints in our thank you cards and people were SO appreciative. She's on fridges across America. Comments we've gotten in response to Darcy's photos: "WOW your photographer is phenomenal", "this is the best photo of us in existence", "you guys look so happy!", "I feel like the photographer really captured your personalities" If capturing joy is important to you, hire Darcy. My only regret is getting her for 7 hours instead of 9.

Hey, I'm Chris! Dog-lover, latte-lover, gym-lover, and cookie-lover I justify the cookies by going to the gym. One of my life goals is to have enough dogs (dachshunds and corgis) to create a sled team. I will use this sled team to pull myself around while shooting your wedding. I’m joking, unless you really want me to, in which maybe WE should get married.

Awarded Best of Zola
My husband Will and I got married in October and we planned everything together. Hands down, the easiest and best decision we made (besides going through with the marriage ;-)) was picking Chris as our photographer. He was so easy to work with from the get go. We set up a brief meeting, shared our vision (we wanted a "photojournalist approach"), and mapped out a schedule of events. Anything that we did not think to ask, he made sure to bring up and help make our vision more complete. Chris was excellent at capturing all of the tiny moments of the night without being in anyone's way. The pictures that he captured were absolutely STUNNING--the perfect amount of sentimental moments captured in beautiful lighting and silly off the cuff moments that captured the essence of each and every guest. We would work again with Chris in a heartbeat and friends have already requested his contact information for their ceremony. As an added bonus, because we did not end up using Chris for all of the allotted time, he offered to do a separate photoshoot whenever we would like. It's those little attention to details and customer service which make Chris stand out from the rest. Overall, Chris was kind, professional, quick to edit and publish photos, and an amazing photographer. You would not do wrong by hiring him!

I'm Aimee, and I believe in wedding photos lasting forever and telling your story in a way that spans across generations. Your story might be a civil ceremony with a rainbow chuppah, just the three of us and a witness on your front porch, a gorgeous celebration with your overflowing circle of friends + family, or a traditional church ceremony like the one your parents had 40 years ago. Whatever it is, we want to capture and preserve the moments that make it special to you.

If you are considering working with Aimee, do not hesitate and book her now! Aimee exceeded our expectations in every way. She was an amazing communicator throughout the whole process. Planning a wedding can be stressful & can create a lot of anxiety, and her consistent timeliness with responses to emails and questions really stood out to us. On our wedding day specifically, Aimee was an extremely friendly, fun, and calming presence. She has a unique ability to "direct" and "make things happen" while keeping everyone engaged, happy, and stress-free. Aimee did a great job of “blending in” when taking photos, and was able to capture a lot of great candid photos of our day - there was never pressure from anyone in the room to “look at the photographer.” As someone who feels truly awkward when their photo is taken or when asked to pose for a photo, Aimee did a great job at making my husband & me feel comfortable & relaxed throughout our couples portrait shoot, and the photos turned out GREAT! Everyone at our wedding was raving about Aimee - there’s gotta be something more than 5 stars for people like her!

Hi! I’m Steph, a wedding and lifestyle photographer, and I’m here for the couples who believe in rich colors and wild and care-free love. Based in the DMV, I travel often for weddings and stories in the mid-Atlantic and all over the world: I’ve photographed love from Delhi, India to Bloomington, Indiana, and everywhere in between.

We can not recommend Stephanie enought! From our first meeting, she made us feel incredibly comfortable and at ease, allowing us to be our authentic selves. On the wedding day, she provided the perfect amount of direction. Her warm personality and professional demeanor made everything feel effortless. Stephanie didn’t just take photos; she told a story. Her ability to document the love and connection between us, our family, and our friends was remarkable. If you're looking for a photographer who will make you feel comfortable and valued while capturing stunning photos, Stephanie is the one.
