Colvin House is an extraordinary wedding venue featuring an inviting glamorous interior, large outdoor reception areas, beautiful gardens, beach access & unforgettable views of Lake Michigan. Designed in 1909 by visionary Prairie School architect, George W Maher, the mansion is a historic landmark and was a private residence before its current life as an events venue & coworking space. We pride ourselves on fostering inclusivity & we strive to reduce wedding waste by having almost everything needed onsite while also allowing couples vendor flexibility. Previous residents added details reflecting the styles of grand movie theaters and the glamorous neoclassical revival flair of the 1920’s and 1930’s, giving the house a relaxed but unified mix of architectural styles. From the majestic crystal chandelier escorting you down the grand staircase to the marble fireplaces, we invite you to imagine the house is yours for the day as you invite family and friends in to celebrate your union.

Why you'll love this venue

  • All-inclusive venue packages
  • Historic touches
  • Provides a dedicated team on-site

Venue considerations

  • No on-premises lodging options
We were drawn to Colvin House because of the mansion's historic details, but believe it truly shines when paired with the talents of Pyrite Sun, their in-house planning, catering, rentals, and floral team. We met with Sarah (Colvin's Events Manager/Owner of Pyrite Sun) to tour the space and ended up hiring Pyrite Sun for our entire wedding at Colvin House. Not only was it convenient to have everything under one roof, but we had a personalized wedding experience like no other–complete with vintage furniture, plates, and coupes, the most incredible floral from Colvin's gardens, and a customized food menu that our guests still rave about. I also love that Sarah recommends great vendors they've worked with and happily coordinates whatever you need with any other vendors you'd like to hire, as well. Overall, an incredibly special experience you won't find anywhere else. Thank you, Colvin House and Pyrite Sun, for making our vintage glamour wedding dreams come true!

We hosted our small 35-person wedding reception at RLM Studio and it turned out to be the perfect space for our celebration. The open kitchen layout added a warm, communal feel that worked beautifully for our intimate gathering. It was exactly what we needed—comfortable, modern, and easy to make our own. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, we did experience a hiccup with the booking that made me a little nervous about how things would unfold. That said, Jordyn stepped in and handled the situation with care. She coordinated directly with our vendors to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day of the event, and I really appreciated that effort. Her involvement helped ease my nerves and allowed me to enjoy the day. Overall, the space was a great fit, and I would absolutely recommend it to others planning a small or medium-sized event. It struck the right balance between functional and beautiful, and with the right team in place, it made for a memorable and meaningful celebration.

I worked with LNF for over a year to plan my dream wedding. We knew we wanted to go a little unconventional from the standard type of venue and let me say it PAID OFF. From the planning perspective: I want to give all my kudos to Brianna from the events team for everything she did! She was in constant communication with me about everything from food selections to reception layout and was so kind throughout the entire process. She helped me feel empowered with the decisions we were making and helped with monthly touch bases to go over details to weekly once we got close to the wedding. She made sure I had everything I needed and helped make our vision come to life! From the venue/event perspective: Our guests are still raving about this wedding two weeks out. The family style entrees gave everyone more than enough food that was delicious and the bar staff was getting into the party with us as much as we were! Everyone was attended to in a timely manner and the entire staff played a huge role in making the night so welcoming and engaging. The layout worked perfectly for our group, too. The garden transformed into our dance floor that easily fit all of our guests together and the rooftop served as such a unique and beautiful setting for our ceremony. I truthfully don’t have enough positive things to say about the staff and the venue. Not to mention that the pricing for our event was all inclusive (bar, food, venue, DJ, decor, etc.) which made it super easy to keep track of everything and was also WAY more affordable than other venues within the area. Thank you, LNF, for the best experience I could’ve asked for going into my big day!

Lisa and her team are, hands down, the best group of people I have ever met and would hire them 100% again and again. Lisa ensured she understood what our vision was by asking thorough and detailed questions. She went above and beyond contacting our venue and all necessary vendors to make sure everything ran smoothly. If there was ever an issue, she solved it without worrying us. And the day of our wedding, several of our guests informed us how amazing her and her teams’ service, professionalism, and how invested she is… not to mention how delicious all the food was, requiring seconds and thirds!!! There aren’t enough words to explain how phenomenal Lisa and her team are and how if it weren’t for Lisa, we wouldn’t have had the wedding of our dreams come true.

Bookclub is one of my favorite places to be at in the world. Its charm, spirit, and ethos resonates deeply with me. I could list many other things about the space that I love, but I think the one that should be highlighted the most is the staff and owners of the venue. They truly go above and beyond to make the space so incredibly warm and welcoming to everyone. Every time I have a nice chat with someone there, I leave feeling my soul nourished. Maybe I’m a sap, but I truly have had some of the most pleasant experiences at this space. If you were to ever be lucky to go there, tell them Wayne says hi! I’m sure they’d love to hear it :)

There is an emphasis on utilizing herbs and ingredients that are locally available. All bread and pasta served at Segnatore is made in-house. The beverage program designed by Natalie Smythe follows Italian traditions of using what is local, naturally available, and provides a little something for everyone. There is thought and intention put behind every partnership and ingredient included on the menu; wine, spirits, beer and plenty of Italian non-alcoholic options, including coffee and tea, to satisfy all cravings. We had our rehersal dinner at Segnatore last week. We rented out the space for two and a half hours and had 21 guests (three of which were children). They were so great and thorough in their communication, and we were more than accomodated. My MIL has a gluten allergy, and they made sure she was included in every course. She told us afterward that she has never been so taken care of by a restaurant. I also found out the day before that my BFF was expecting, and they had N/A bubbles and mocktails for her so she could be involved in all of the toasts. HIGHLY recommend Segnatore for your private event needs!

The venue is absolutely gorgeous, and Colleen and her team are so responsive and helpful. The ceremony space is so beautiful and allows for a truly cinematic experience walking down the aisle. For the reception area, being able to leverage the antique tables (and bonus: not having to rent linens!) gave everything a perfectly cozy touch, and we partied under the disco ball all night long. Our wedding day & the planning leading up to it was absolutely perfect and we can't thank the Chicago Winery staff (especially our event manager Hulda!) enough for making our wedding come to life exactly as we dreamed it. The venue is gorgeous, our guests raved about the food/appetizers/cocktails/etc. and it is truly a night we will never forget. Being able to go outside to the cocktail hour terrace was also a huge plus to get people moving around and seeing new parts of the venue while the Chicago Winery staff transformed the whole space from ceremony to reception. We worked with Amy right after booking the space and she was so helpful in being a resource for us to bounce questions off of as we began planning. We utilized a lot of the preferred vendors (florist, DJ, etc.) that Chicago Winery recommended and they did not disappoint. Our event manager, Hulda, was soooooo helpful throughout the last 6 months of preparations and as our day-of manager - we could not have done it without her. She made sure the whole day was perfect and everything timeline-wise lined up exactly as we envisioned it. Can't recommend Chicago Winery enough! 1000000/10

Wow. Wow. Wow. We just had our wedding on 8/10/24 and can say without a doubt it was the best day of our lives. This was primarily due to the gorgeous Walden venue, their dedicated kitchen/bar staff, and especially our unbelievable planners Kalila & Alyssa. They supported us from beginning to end and not only helped us make decisions when needed, they stood up for us when needed. It is so nice to have people who have your back during this process. We could not speak more highly of Kalila & Alyssa's professionalism, knowledge, and dedication. Our guests continue to rave about the food and drinks!!! People have told us it is the best wedding they have ever been to and the best wedding food they have ever had. Coming from many NJ & NY guests... that means a lot! We could not be more happy with the service provided by Walden, the planners they provided us with, the WOW factor food/drinks, and the overall class and style. Venue considerations

  • Large venue, not ideal for small guest lists

I was pleasantly surprised with how easy and affordable coordinating a party of 150 with this team. We didnt want a traditional reception, so we had a party with small bites and an open bar. The view is obviously amazing, but the decor and the vibe is also unbeatable. The food was great, the service made me feel special. They accommodated our needs, but the place is pretty plug and play. I highly recommend.

Osteria Via Stato is one of my favorite restaurants and it was a dream to have our wedding there! Natalie and her staff are easy to work with, they have great communication, knowledge, and experience. We loved the execution of our wedding by them, the ceremony was perfect for us, it was dreamy in their gorgeous dining room, but you would never guess it was a dining room with the way they set it up for the wedding. Our private room was perfect for our party of 55. We used farmhouse style tables and it was perfect for us as we didn’t want a dance floor. The servers there cannot be beat, they are all extremely experienced, friendly and happy to be there. They went above and beyond to ensure that me and my wife always had the first choice of everything and always had a drink in hand. I’ve been to many weddings where the food is fine or not desirable, but the food here was incredible! Going into this I knew it would be good but I didn’t know how delicious all the hors d’oeuvres would be. We couldn’t just pick a few we liked them all! And the entrees were delicious, every guest felt full and well fed!! We got comments from all of our guests about how great the food, venue and service were! Everyone was pleased and you don’t often find that from wedding venues. We loved having our wedding here and love that we can return whenever we please to celebrate special occasions!

The courtyard is deceptively spacious and felt like we were tucked away in a serene garden while also thriving off the energy of the surrounding city. As Chicago locals, the space felt perfectly urban and classy, without being stuffy at all. It was beautiful and memorable and the perfect fit for us a couple. 100/10 would recommend.

Celeste is incredible! How many Chicago locations can offer all Celeste does? Not many! They have a magical rooftop space, a disco floor, and two other stunning spaces. The space speaks for itself. So, let me talk about the people behind the location. Their team is attentive to both clients and vendors. They make working at this location a dream for the vendors, which lets us (vendors) focus on making the clients dreams come true. This location is fun, elegant, modern, and a must book! The food and drinks are delightful as well. We love the team and I promise, you will too!

I had an EXCELLENT experience with City Cruises for my August wedding reception / brunch cruise. The sales manager, Serena, event coordinator, Andria, and all the service staff were wonderful. I had dozens of questions running up to the wedding about optimizing my budget and incorporating all kinds of guest preferences—Andria and Serena were so patient. In the actual day of, food was good, drinks were good, DJ was fabulous and incorporated French, English, and Spanish songs requests for my guests. I loved this choice for reception venue and would do it again in a heartbeat.

We found Sepia Private Dining and it was the perfect venue for our small wedding (50 guests). The Sepia staff did almost everything to make my wedding everything I wanted. The mirror on the wall and the decor matched our vibe. We had one set-up for the ceremony, then the guests had appetizers (we left to take pictures) and they changed the set-up for dinner and then moved a couple of tables for dancing later. I did not have a wedding planner and they made everything easy, from planning the menu to the set-up it was a stress free day! I would strongly recommend Sepia Private Dining for all of your smaller events.

Awarded Best of Zola
We just had our wedding here this past weekend and it was perfect from start to finish. Erin Wright, our coordinator, made us feel supported the entire year. We didn't even feel like we needed to hire a planner because they assisted with coordinating so much. We did end up hiring Erin as our day-of coordinator, which the Hyatt offers. She ended up being there that day with two other event managers as well. They recently remodeled all guest rooms, as well as the reception area we used, the Crystal Ballroom. The space has floor to ceiling window views of the city that were incredible. We had our ceremony on the adjacent terrace, which they flipped and allowed people on during dancing! It was such a cool feature. We highly recommend to anyone who wants to have their wedding in the heart of downtown Chicago!
