From our very first phone call, we knew we’d made the right choice — they gave off great vibes, were professional, and truly delivered. Everything was perfect, from the rustic façade of the DJ booth to the cocktail hour playlist (which sounded like something we would’ve made ourselves) to the incredible reception music. They were honest, familiar with our venue (Toast in Patchogue), and never tried to upsell us. Mike took the time to go over our preferences beforehand, and he just *got it*. They understood the assignment and gave us a night we’ll never forget. The dance floor was packed the entire evening — not a single person left on the first shuttle because no one wanted to stop dancing, not even my 91-year-old grandma who stayed until the very end! They paid close attention to every detail — from our final dance song to the special tribute song for my brother and every request in between. Throughout the night, they checked in with us to make sure we were happy, seamlessly made announcements to gather guests for photos or speeches, and kept the energy high from start to finish. If you’re debating between hiring just a DJ or a DJ and MC — **get both!** It makes such a difference. The DJ can focus on mixing while the MC hypes up the crowd and keeps everything running smoothly. Our only “complaint” was that the dance floor was *too crowded* — exactly what we wanted! Cocktail hour was perfect — the volume, vibe, and timing were spot-on. Since they knew the layout of Toast, they easily set up music in a separate room with zero issues. The night flowed perfectly; there wasn’t a single awkward pause or song we wanted to skip. It was a nonstop party with amazing energy. We couldn’t be happier with our choice. And for anyone thinking a playlist and speaker could replace pros like this… trust me, you have no idea what you’d be missing. After some search, we hired Andrew to play our wedding from only a youtube video and it might have been the best decision we made for that day. Andrew was in contact with us throughout the almost 2 year delay (thanks, Covid) between booking and the event and gave us great recommendations on songs. We went into the wedding with zero playlists and just told him to play whatever - every song was perfect. We only had one requested song which he waited until we were outside to play, and it was great. Our guests still talk to us about the guitarist and how amazing cocktail hour was. Out of everything during the day, who knew the best part would be the first hour? Our biggest regret was not keeping him there for the entire day! While their communication was a bit delayed leading up to the event, they were ultimately effective in executing on the day-of. The DJ kept the party going all night with a good song selection, though they did play 3 Taylor Swift songs in a row at the start, which we would have preferred more variety. The MC's ad-libs got a little overbearing at times, but overall they did a nice job sticking to the schedule and making important announcements. We'd recommend HiMotive to other couples looking for an energetic DJ.”
