“We cannot say enough wonderful things about Grace Ventures Wedding and Event Barn! We had our wedding there this past weekend and would 10/10 recommend to anyone and everyone! From the moment we began planning our wedding to the moment we left at the end of our wedding weekend, everything was absolutely perfect. The venue itself is truly beautiful. The grounds were amazing, and our guests could not stop complimenting how gorgeous everything was. One of our favorite parts was the outdoor patio area with the firepit and games. It created such a fun, relaxed space for our guests to enjoy throughout the evening. The mini golf was also such a unique and unexpected touch that our guests absolutely loved! It gave everyone something fun to do and made the venue feel like so much more than just a traditional wedding space. The onsite beautiful Air BnB was amazing, too. It was so convenient to have it right there with the absolutely beautiful bridal suite included. But what truly made our experience so incredible was the staff, especially our coordinator, Stacey. Stacey was absolutely AMAZING from start to finish. She was on top of everything throughout the entire planning process and our wedding weekend. She remained in communication throughout the months leading up to the wedding and was even more available as the wedding weekend approached. She was incredibly helpful, kind, genuine, attentive, and reassuring, and we always felt like she truly cared about us and our wedding. We are also expecting a baby boy at end of October and she made sure to include him, treasure him and adore him throughout the entire process. Planning a wedding can be stressful, but Stacey made the entire process feel easy and manageable. She was always there when we needed her, answered our questions, helped us work through details, and made sure nothing was overlooked. On the wedding weekend itself, she was absolutely on top of everything. She was constantly making sure things were running smoothly, anticipating what we needed before we even had to ask, and handling all of the little details that allowed us to simply enjoy our wedding day. There are so many things that can make a wedding venue beautiful, but having a team that genuinely cares about their couples is something truly special. Stacey made us feel supported, taken care of, and confident throughout the entire process. She played such a huge role in making our wedding weekend everything we dreamed it would be. Our wedding was absolutely perfect, and Grace Ventures was a huge part of that. We are so incredibly grateful to Stacey and the entire Grace Ventures team for making such an important time in our lives so seamless, memorable, and special. If you are considering Grace Ventures for your wedding, we cannot recommend them enough. The beautiful grounds, unique amenities, incredible staff, and especially the level of care and attention we received made this the perfect place for our wedding. We would choose Grace Ventures all over again in a heartbeat!”

“My wife and I were married at Walnut Hill in July of last year and we had the best day of our lives there! Mike and Essie were an absolute pleasure to work with - they were so friendly and accommodating throughout the process. The entire property is so beautiful, from the Barn itself (and its attached, charming country house which can sleep up to 12 if memory correctly serves), the newly redone patio beside the barn, the sprawling lawn and last but certainly not least, the ceremony area (the main reason fell in love with this location!). The ceremony area lets the perfect amount of light in, which in our case was especially great since it kept our guests (and ourselves) cooler on what was a 90 degree day! It is also equipped with speakers surrounding it which is really helpful for whatever sort of musical arrangements you have for the most important part of the day. Cocktail hour was out on the patio. The massive tree nearby provided shade to those who needed to step out of the sun for a few. We had our reception in the barn. It is HVAC-equipped which was key on such a hot day. We had a little under 70 guests so we had plenty of room for a full band and dance floor in the middle, but I think you could fit double that size without much trouble at all. The barn also has a bar built in which was such a great touch. I would recommend The Barn On Walnut Hill to anyone looking for an intimate, all-inclusive venue. It really is one of the best spots in the Portland, ME area, if not all of Maine in my book. Thanks again Mike and Essie! -Pat”

“My mom booked Cranberry Mountain Events for my baby shower. We used the indoor building and it was beautiful. It was a safe place for the kids to run around. We had access to the catering kitchen because my mom did all her own food prep and was able to use the refrigerators and counters. Was clean and easy! I had about 30 people and we had a large center table and everyone could sit together. The space is big but it was cozy and it didn't feel awkward for our smaller event!”

“From all of us, thank you!! You, Katie (Purple Orchid Event), Tess (Floralia Designs Studio), Leah (Leahs Lens) took everything Maddy, and I had envisioned and somehow made it even more beautiful than we imagined. Every detail came together so perfectly and seeing it all unfold was incredibly special, right down to the set-up of the Lighthouse and make-up vendor. It was all stunning! We are still receiving emails, calls, and notes from guests telling us what an amazing time they had. That says so much about you and your entire staff. The food was superb, the venue was spectacular, and everyone was so gracious and accommodating. You truly made our family, and guests feel cared for from beginning to end. I said to Mike that I loved having my own wedding there 30 years ago, but there was something especially magical about celebrating Maddy’s wedding there all these years later. As Mike keeps saying, “It was epic!” And it truly was. A very special thank-you as well to our friend Roger, who truly understands the meaning of “customer service.” We told him our paths just may cross again in Jamaica! And to Les, thank you for all your help with the boats and for tending to every little detail at our cozy house next to Ledgers. It was those thoughtful touches and acts of kindness throughout the weekend that made everything feel even more special. We appreciated them more than we can say. I know your job requires an incredible amount of patience, attention to detail, and grace, and you bring all of that so naturally. You and everyone at Sebasco helped turn a vision into a memory our family will treasure forever. We could not be more grateful. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for making our daughters beautiful dream COME TRUE! See you next season on the water at Sebasco Harbor! Love Kim & Mike McAuliffe”

“I attended one of the events that they hosted (not a wedding, but they have a bunch of different types of events come through regularly), and I LOVED the spot! My fiancé & I are debating having our 2025 wedding reception here next year. We heard nothing but great things about the owners, and the staff working the event seemed to be having a blast. We loved that it's so different from your typical stuffy, overly-elegant wedding venue. This is a photo studio that is run by 2 photographers, and the vibe feels more NYC than Maine. Concrete floors with high ceilings, white walls, in the brewery district of Portland.”

“Everything about Ri Ra was amazing! I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a restaurant setting reception or event. We had a small ceremony at Portland City Hall with our immediate family and then had our reception upstairs at Ri Ra with about 100 guests. We rented out the entire upstairs space. The location is beautiful, with a great view of the water and boats. Most of our guests stayed at the Hilton across the street, so they were able to walk to the reception and everyone commented on how great of a location in Portland it was. The upstairs is already beautifully decorated so we just had tealight votives and bud vases with flowers for decor on the tables. We were also able to have a mix of large and small tables for dinner, which ended up working out great for us as opposed to each table having the same number of guests. The events manager, Tara, was great to work with from the moment we inquired and booked the space. She was always very helpful, communicative and friendly. The rest of the staff were also so friendly and did an amazing job at the event. They were constantly checking in with guests at dinner and the bar ran smoothly the entire night. As far as food goes, everything was delicious! So many of our guests told us they had great meals and were very impressed with the food. We had passed appetizers for cocktail hour and salad/dinner was served family style, the serving were generous and we had plenty of food. Most of our guests that needed food accommodations were vegan and gluten free, and many of our food choices already met that criteria, but Ri Ra was also very accommodating to other allergies, even with serving dinner family style. We did hire a wedding coordinator for the day of to help set up/break down decor for us, make sure our timeline ran smoothly and to coordinate with our DJ and photographer day of, which I would recommend for a larger event.”

“Haly at The Press Hotel was so helpful in helping us to plan our wedding reception celebration. The space was outfitted for our needs, and she ensured all our food and drink requests were accommodated for, incuding bringing in late night pizza from an outside vendor. They managed the set up and clean up of the space. Her team was fun and kind who worked the event too and everything went smoothly. The venue is known for its stunning architectural details, historic charm, and exceptional service. Grace Events offers several spaces for various guest counts, from cocktail receptions for up to 350 guests to seated dinners for 250. Venue considerations

“We had our wedding reception at Grace in April and it was absolutely perfect, we cannot recommend enough. The building is gorgeous, truly not requiring any added decor as it shines on its own. From the balcony, the massive stained glass windows, the huge bar, to every other detail; it is stunning. The ownership changed in the middle of our wedding planning which was stressful at the time, but genuinely made our day that much better. The new Grace team is incredible. Meghan was a surprise bonus wedding planner; proving us with great advice, doing everything she could to make our day perfect, and renovating Grace in record time before our day. Her and the team provided new paint, new tables, and perhaps best of all, new bridal and groomsmen suites that were the perfect place to get ready. If you are debating booking Grace, do it. It is beautiful, has a great dance floor, is in the perfect location walkable to everything Portland offers, and was such a smooth planning process.”

Fortland

Portland, ME
  • Up to 125 guests

  • Starts at $6,000

Fortland is a ruggedly elegant, off-grid event venue and "glamping" destination located on the southern half of House Island in Portland’s Casco Bay. Accessible only by a 10-minute boat ride, it is set within the 16-acre grounds of historic Fort Scammel, a Civil War-era fortification.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Provides a dedicated team on-site
  • Flexible event spaces
  • Offers convenient lodging options

Venue considerations

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • On-site parking not available
  • Couple must handle cleanup and setup
“Fortland is truly the best wedding venue ever!! We got married there in August and it was better than we could have imagined. From the start, Ashley and Stacey were incredible to work with. Fortland isn’t a plug-and-play venue, which is part of why we chose it, but it also means having a team who really knows the island matters. They helped us think through how to use each space and shared ideas from past weddings that made our weekend feel personal and helped imagine how a wedding could work out in such a unique place. We did a full island takeover, which I would recommend if you can swing it. Our wedding parties stayed in the tents all weekend and it ended up being one of the highlights. Even friends who don’t ever camp were comfortable and fully into it immediately. Our rehearsal dinner on the overlook deck was stunning, and wrapping the night around the campfire was super fun for both us and our friends and family. On Saturday, we used every part of the island we could. The ceremony on the dock was calm and beautiful, looking out towards Fort Gorges and sailboats. Cocktail hour on the parade ground overlooking Casco Bay felt quintessentially Maine. Stefan offered an optional fort tour that a surprising number of guests loved. Dinner inside the bastion as the sun set through the stone windows was unreal. Then we had a band under the community tent and it turned into the kind of party you hope for but can’t fully plan. Every shift in location made the next part of the night feel new and exciting. The staff really makes Fortland what it is. Katrina and Stefan, the owners, care deeply about the property and about the people getting married there, and you feel that all weekend. Grace and Jo were the caretakers on the island with us all weekend and were so fun and easy to be around while also being incredibly on top of everything. If you’re looking for a traditional ballroom wedding, this isn’t that. But if you want an experience where your guests feel immersed, connected, and a little bit off the grid in the best way, Fortland is hard to beat. We'll definitely be visiting Fortland again every chance we can get.”

“My husband and I had one goal in mind when we were planning our recent wedding: we wanted everyone to have fun! There is not a better place we could have imagined for our wedding than Bayside Bowl!! From our first FaceTime to the sweet note we just got in the mail two weeks after our wedding, every step of the process was smooth and we couldn't have been in better hands than with Micaela and the entire team at Bayside. With a wedding of a little over 100 people, we got pretty much unanimous feedback that our wedding at Bayside was one of the most fun that anyone had ever attended. In truth, this is largely due to the care and ease with which Micaela managed everything! We had an absolutely stress-free wedding and felt so well-taken care of throughout the event and in the run up. You'll enjoy the tasting event where you get to sample offerings from Bayside's awesome menu before your wedding, and the food was also a hit with the guests! We couldn't have wished for a more perfect wedding weekend than the one we had at Bayside.”

“We cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel. From start to finish, the entire team made our wedding weekend absolutely seamless, beautiful, and stress-free. A huge and heartfelt thank you to Lindsay Plantier, the Hotel’s Catering Sales Manager and our wedding coordinator. Lindsay was extraordinary—accommodating every last-minute change, working with our budget, and helping us customize the perfect dream wedding. On the wedding day itself, we were completely hands-off and everything ran with incredible professionalism. We received so many compliments from guests who noticed how organized, smooth, and well-run the entire event was. The staff throughout the hotel deserves major recognition. From check-in to check-out, we felt truly cared for. The front desk team was warm and attentive, and even the waitress assigned to us at our reception went above and beyond—checking in throughout the evening to make sure I ate, stayed hydrated, and could be fully present with our guests. Every single employee we encountered was kind, professional, and clearly part of a well-oiled, highly coordinated team. The ballroom itself was stunning. We didn’t have to purchase any extra décor besides a few bud vases we chose to add. The hotel provided linens, table numbers, candles, charger plates and more at no additional cost. The room looked polished, elegant, and absolutely beautiful! We also loved that our package included a farewell brunch at the Top of the East, which was gorgeous during the day and at night. We invited guests to "meet us at the Top of the East" after our reception to serve as an after party for those not ready to tuck in for the night. Guests raved about both the daytime ocean views and the nighttime skyline. The convenience of having everything under one roof was priceless. Our guests appreciated being able to park once and enjoy the entire weekend in one place. We were married at the church directly across the street, making it incredibly easy for everyone to move between events safely and comfortably. Choosing the Westin Portland Harborview was one of the best decisions we made. The venue, the service, the staff, and especially Lindsay created a wedding weekend that exceeded every expectation. We are so grateful and would recommend this venue wholeheartedly to any couple looking for a beautiful, expertly managed, guest-friendly wedding experience.”
