About this venue

Grace Events is a beautifully restored historic venue located in the heart of downtown Portland. Originally built in 1856 as Chestnut Street Methodist Church and designed by architect Charles Alexander, Grace is one of the city’s few surviving examples of Gothic Revival architecture, having endured the Great Fire of 1866. Now under new ownership, The Herget Group and managed by former Event Director Meghan Johansmeier, Grace enters an exciting new chapter while honoring it's rich past. The venue is known for its stunning architectural details, historic charm, and exceptional service. Grace Events offers several spaces for various guest counts, from cocktail receptions for up to 350 guests to seated dinners for 250. Couples can prepare in the newly renovated bridal suite, exchange vows in the intimate Grand Gathering Room, and celebrate with dining and dancing in the breathtaking Sanctuary featuring soaring cathedral ceilings, original stained glass, and a striking central bar.

This stunning venue showcases the original church’s exquisite details, including stained glass windows, hand-painted wood grain, and even repurposed pews used for seating. The impressive round main bar features a striking petal design inspired by the space’s Triquetra stained glass windows. Paired with an open-concept kitchen, the venue offers modern amenities within a setting that beautifully honors Portland’s vibrant history.

Gathering Room

The Gathering Room is a perfect space to kick-off your celebration, whether that be exchanges vows, or sharing cocktail with your guests.

With beautiful leaded glass, ebony hardwood floors, and crystal chandeliers, the Great Room is ideal for a cocktail hour or intimate ceremony. Set up a bar and soft seating for mingling before continuing your event with dinner and dancing upstairs, or arrange ebony chavari chairs for a classic vow exchange. Bright and neutral, the space is stunning styled up or down for any celebration.

    Absolutely Perfect

    We had our wedding reception at Grace in April and it was absolutely perfect, we cannot recommend enough. The building is gorgeous, truly not requiring any added decor as it shines on its own. From the balcony, the massive stained glass windows, the huge bar, to every other detail; it is stunning. The ownership changed in the middle of our wedding planning which was stressful at the time, but genuinely made our day that much better. The new Grace team is incredible. Meghan was a surprise bonus wedding planner; proving us with great advice, doing everything she could to make our day perfect, and renovating Grace in record time before our day. Her and the team provided new paint, new tables, and perhaps best of all, new bridal and groomsmen suites that were the perfect place to get ready. If you are debating booking Grace, do it. It is beautiful, has a great dance floor, is in the perfect location walkable to everything Portland offers, and was such a smooth planning process.

Grace Events holds the liquor license for the venue. No outside alcohol is allows. We are happy to work with you to create the perfect bar package for you and your guests!
Yes, we are handicap accessible to the Greatroom space and to the Maine Sanctuary space. The mezzanine level of dining does not allow for wheelchair access unfortunately.
Your event is contracted for 5 hours, and all Grace spaces are included in that time frame. You may add an extra hour to utilize the Greatroom or Sanctuary space and lengthen the overall event. Extra use of the Bridal or Grooms Suite will incur an additional changes based upon timeframe used.
There are several lots and parking lots within walking distance of distance of Grace. We do not have on-site parking, though we are happy to work with you on Valet service.
Event Rental Includes all Grace spaces within your a5 hour event timeframe, all tables, and ebony chivari chairs. Basic event setup and breakdown included, as well as an on-site venue coordinator.
