Long Hill

4.9

Beverly, MA
  • Up to 150 guests
  • Raw space
  • Outdoor
  • Starts at $6,500

Elegant plantings and cultivated grounds fill this public garden with vibrancy that's more than a century in the making. Long Hill is a property of The Trustees of Reservations, a Massachusetts non-profit corporation. From 1916 to 1979, Long Hill was the summer home of noted author and editor of The Atlantic Monthly, Ellery Sedgwick. He summered here with his first wife, Mabel Cabot Sedgwick, an accomplished horticulturist, gardener, and author of The Garden Month by Month, and his second wife, Marjorie Russell Sedgwick, a rare plants specialist—both of whom created a delightful, enchanting landscape, surrounded by more than 100 acres of woodland. Today, visitors delight in the beauty of Long Hill’s structured and naturalistic gardens as well as a network of woodland trails. A diverse collection of trees, shrubs, and distinctive perennial plants provide color during the growing season, peaking in May and June and providing structure and beauty throughout the year.

Long Hill was a dream, it felt like a private fairy garden. Gorgeous location and the perfect size for us to take photos privately and guests to explore but not feel too far away (for wrangling from cocktail hour to dinner for example). The Long Hill staff were super communicative and responsive, sometimes a little stressful to work with as it felt like there were a number of restrictions but this really translated to a very stream-lined and well-organized wedding day as they brought up any potential issues early and then on the actual day they were super, super supportive and great to work with. They do have a list of 5 set caterers you need to work with, we were given an exception because of a dietary restriction my in-laws have (need to pay a 1000 fee), but this was tricky as Long Hill expects caterers to take on much more than just food. You'll also want to rent a dance floor (700 in the area) as the under tent area is brick. We had 115 of us total with buffet & dance floor, it was cozy & lovely but any more than 120 would feel tight to me. We were able to have a ceremony for an extra 1000 and then the reception was 5,200 for 5-10 on a Friday. In addition to the gorgeous gardens and beautiful cocktail area off the porch, we could take photos inside which was really lovely and a great break from the heat (our wedding day was 85 and VERY humid). Felt very professionally run and they worked well with my dear friend who was our day-of-coordinator and we just feel extremely grateful to have such a gorgeous location!

We couldn't have imagined how special our wedding day would be hosted at Willowdale! The venue provided use with outstanding vendor recommendations & planning details throughout the year leading up to our wedding and then our wedding coordinator, Alli, brought the whole thing home into a tightly coordinated day that was smooth & spectacular. Our guests raved about the food. The Filet Mignon is worth it & guests were stealing cookies to take home by the end of the night. Ultimately, it is hard to beat how beautiful the property is. Our first meeting was really easy with a quick hour introduction to the property. If you are on the fence, do visit!

I attended a wedding vow renewal at/in Black Craft Salem's haunt. We all walked down the "aisle" which was the actual haunt. We followed the "bride and groom" throughout the haunt to the very end where the actual ceremony took place. There were beautiful glowing candles everywhere and the lighting was perfect. The BCS crew was very nice and made us all feel welcomed. I have NEVER been to a ceremony as thrilling, fun and terrifyingly beautiful as this one. I could not get over the atmosphere it was McCabe and, exciting and eerie at the same time.... I felt like I was on a movie set. . EVERYONE who loves Halloween, horror and haunts in general needs to have every type of ceremony in this venue - NOT just weddings and vow renewals. BORAH! was the officiant and was the funniest thing ever, she roasted the couple and made us laugh so hard we neven shed a few tears. Thank you BCS for hosting such a remarkable space for this ceremony. I will be booking my wedding at Black Craft if I ever decide to tie the knot.

The staff at Glen Magna were also incredible from everything leading up to the wedding to the wedding day. They were attentive, responsive, and made everything in my vision come true. The catering was also exceptional. People are still bringing up the food at our wedding. And, working with the caterers was an exceptional experience, too. The variety of options was amazing, and the food was actually delicious. Everyone thought so! If I could change anything about Glen Magna, it would be to do it all over again! I cannot say enough about the staff, the building, the grounds, the ambiance, the food, etc., etc., etc. Thank you, Glen Magna, for allowing me to have a wedding that exceeded my dreams!

We had a wonderful wedding at the Nahant Country Club. Yasmene and Heather were great to work with and our wedding ran incredibly smoothly. The venue itself is beautiful and unique, our guests had a great time. The prices are incredibly reasonable and we additionally received an off season discount. Their wedding packages include so much beyond the standard wedding packages including the use of the bridal suite, appetizers/champagne in the bridal suite on the wedding day, use of their (beautiful) centerpieces, a separate happy hour for the wedding party during photographs and much more. Yasmene went above and beyond on our wedding day- she even sewed my nephew's superhero mask when it broke. Many of our guests commented on how she was the best wedding coordinator they had ever seen. Overall, we are incredibly happy with our selection of the Nahant Country Club. It is a beautiful venue run by incredibly efficient and kind women!

Everything about this venue was incredible, from the picturesque mansion to the wonderful, supportive staff. From our very first interactions with the sales team (Helen) to our day-of staff (Casey & May), everyone was extremely professional, helpful, and a pleasure to be around. They were gracious in answering our questions, calming our nerves, and being an assuring force throughout it all. We are so grateful for the love and care they put into our special day to keep everything organized and on track. Fireside's food was phenomenal and all the late night snacks and desserts were a huge hit with our guests. There was also a nice flow throughout the night and our guests commented that they were grateful that they knew where to go at every point in the wedding. We had rain on our wedding day but we are pleased to say that the ceremony under the tent was still magical, and actually created a nice moody atmosphere and our photos came out amazing. The heaters kept the tent dry and comfortable all night. We hope someone else we know gets married at the Stevens Estate soon so that we can attend!

Venue considerations

  • On-site parking not available

The Multicultural Arts Center was a beautiful venue for our wedding ceremony and reception! We had our ceremony outdoors in the courtyard just outside the building, and the staff helped us to get the permits to use the courtyard, helped to set up microphones for the ceremony, and also helped work with us on a backup plan to have the ceremony indoors in case it had rained on our wedding day. The courtyard is a charming spot with trellises and greenery and is surrounded by classic-looking New England buildings. Adria and Taylor on the staff were extremely helpful in helping us plan our reception: they answered our many questions and let us rehearse in the venue so that we could figure out how we wanted to lay out the space. The theater hall was an amazing place to have our reception: we especially loved the balcony and the design of the ceiling, and there was plenty of room for a little over 100 guests, buffet tables, a DJ, and a dance floor. The venue was also a really convenient location for our guests - it's close to the T and has several nearby hotels. Would highly recommend!

We loved having our wedding at Artists. It as a great space to hold our 240 guests comfortably with different spaces for different parts of the wedding and a great vibe! We also loved using a space that supports a non-profit organization. A few things to be aware of when choosing Artists: 1. You have to use the exclusive caterer so while the space is inexpensive, the catering might be much more expensive than expected. 2. They only had one person from Artists on site during the wedding, which meant that the bathrooms were sort of gross throughout and no one was there to keep them clean. Otherwise, we loved it!

If you're considering Wentworth by the Sea hotel for your wedding venue - just do it! They truly went above and beyond and blew us out of the water. We went with the Little Harbor Package in the Grand Ballroom - we were treated like royalty. Any issue we may have come across (few if not any at all!) it was quickly settled with zero stress. If you're looking for a one stop shop for everything wedding - they supply an excellent list of vendors, everything is on site, champagne around every corner, and talk about luxurious and beautiful! Kate, Catherine, and the entire Wentworth staff were extremely attentive, in person and via email - they were just incredible and I couldn't speak more highly about their professionalism. Our wedding guests are still complimenting Wentworth by the Sea - especially the food! Food is something not many people expect to be blown away by at a wedding - but boy they didn't disappoint! Some guests said it was the best filet they had EVER had!!! All of the food - appetizers, salads, entrees, dessert - everything was mouthwatering and buzzworthy. We got married 9.13.15 at Sky Meadow. We booked the venue more than a year in advance (we just wanted to get it out of the way) and Lynn was amazing to work with during that entire time. She was super responsive, very professional, and all around joy to work with. And when it came to day of, our venue coordinator, Josh, was instrumental to making sure the day ran smoothly. He kept us on track and was very accommodating to all of our requests. The entire staff was amazing to work with and we can't have asked for better help during our wedding. And as for food, 10000/10, everyone was raving about it! We did the plated dinner and chose Prime Rib, Crab Stuffed Haddock, and the Risotto. As for appetizers we did sushi, antipasto display, meatballs, bacon wrapped scallops, lobster sliders, and beef wellington bites. Everyone said how there was so much food they were stuffed even before dinner. The food is definitely plentiful and your guests will be happy at the quality and amount. We did consumption bar as well and the line was never too long, they turned them out quickly (especially since they walked around with our signatures). They even include a cake of your choice (we chose Chickadee Hill Bakery - absolutely delicious) as part of your package which was really nice. We wholeheartedly believe this venue is the venue to have your wedding at!

I looked into countless wedding venues all across New England, but when my then-fiancé and I arrived at Scotland Fields for our venue tour, I immediately knew that it was the place we needed to host our wedding weekend. That gut feeling that this was somewhere really special never wore off, and I know that all of our guests felt that same feeling throughout the entire weekend. We also don't have enough positive things to say about the Scotland Fields team. My husband and I had a very specific vision about how we wanted our weekend to come together, and the team was nothing but accommodating to allow us to create the weekend that we envisioned. They were responsive when we had questions, helpful when we needed recommendations and guidance, and prompt to resolve anything that came up throughout the weekend (not that there was much of anything to resolve!!). We could not recommend this venue more highly, and will forever be grateful for the weekend that Scotland Fields allowed us to curate!

We had the most perfect wedding day at the Herb Lyceum. When we got engaged we knew we wanted a smaller, more intimate wedding and struggled to find a venue that welcomed smaller events. I came across The Herb Lyceum on Instagram and knew that this was the space for us. We held our wedding in the sunken garden, cocktail hour on the lawn and dinner in the greenhouse. The space was magical. They have a beautiful bar and cocktail hour set up. The greenhouse was exactly how we envisioned our day to look like. We received several comments that our wedding had the best food and cocktails of any wedding guests had been to. We are so grateful to the Herb Lyceum team for making our day so special. The Barn at Union Lake Orchard was a decent venue for our wedding, though they had some issues with management that caused a hassle. Their communication was decent, and they were responsive to our questions leading up to the big day. The venue itself was beautiful and great value for the price, with a lovely rustic charm that fit our vision perfectly. However, they lost our final payment check, which led to some unnecessary stress trying to get it resolved. Overall, the venue was a nice backdrop for our wedding, but the management could use some improvement.

Our wedding at The Leavitt Theatre was beyond anything we could have dreamed… it was pure magic. This venue is astonishingly unique, dripping with history, romance, and charm. Every single guest told us they had never experienced a wedding like ours, and honestly, we believe it. From the moment we saw our names on the glowing marquee to the personalized movie posters in the frames, the night felt straight out of Hollywood. Being introduced by a film crafted by my brother-in-law and projected on the big screen was surreal!! Truly a moment we and our guests will never forget. Pair that with the champagne tower, endless popcorn, and the sparkle of bubbly all night long, and the whole evening had this old-Hollywood glamour that made it feel larger than life. And then there was the food- WOW. No other words other than absolutely extraordinary. The chef has an unmatched gift for flavor and presentation, and our guests could not stop raving. It was the perfect way to give everyone (most of whom had traveled far) a true taste of Maine. The espresso martinis? Hands down the best we’ve ever had. People are still talking about them! This venue is also walking distance to a few fun spots so there are options for after parties! But what truly set The Leavitt apart was the heart behind it all. Nell, the coordinator, was an absolute treasure. She video chatted with us countless times, answered every question, and worked tirelessly to make sure everything not only fit within our budget but exceeded our expectations. Her dedication made us feel supported every step of the way. We were also so impressed by the Leavitts owner, Max. His family has owned this wonderful place for generations and we hope we can return for a movie every year for our anniversary! This wasn’t just a wedding venue… it was an experience. It was cinematic, romantic, and unforgettable in every single way. Truly the best night of our lives, and we will be forever grateful to The Leavitt Theatre for making it happen. If you want your wedding to be unlike anything else, stop searching because this is the place.
