I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years. I began my education at UVA, where I was an Echols scholar. Seeking a school with a greater focus on fine arts studio work, I transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute, where I earned a B.F.A. in Photography and Filmmaking. Throughout my career I have traveled and photographed extensively in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. I have visited and photographed more than 50 countries. I have founded 3 non-profit arts organizations: Live Arts Theater, Light House Studio, and LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph.

As a classically trained photographer I am both a technician and an artist. I approach photography as a means of artistic expression, but my first priority is always people—listening to them, capturing them as they truly are, and documenting their lives in a way that gives permanence to life’s most meaningful moments.
