My name is Ali Cushing; a NY-based photographer working in a blended documentary and editorial approach, emphasized with a cinematic method, and a personalized, true to life editing style. I am honored to be entrusted with depicting genuine love, authentic characters, and immortalizing precious memories. I see beauty in the subtle details as much as the wide, epic scene, while I see glory in the mundane in-between moments as much as the heart thudding highs. I am adamant that everyone, of all genders and orientations, any ethnicity, culture, or faith, all shapes, ages, and abilities, are welcome and I’d be delighted to work with you.

Every love and every wedding is unique, and the approach taken to capture and memorialize each couple and their chosen celebration should be just as personal. I truly believe as a photographer I should facilitate the best experience for my clients, and not constrain it within a coverage duration. This means offering flexible day-rate package options and customized timelines that emphasize each keystone moment, all of your editorialized priorities, along with plenty of time to candidly enjoy yourselves with your loved ones. This Day-Rate package provides flexible coverage (priced for 8, but providing up to 12 hours) which not only gives buffer time for logistics, but provides time for the planned photos (details, getting ready, group and couple portraits, etc) but also breathing room to exist, enjoy your loved ones and eachother, making special memories.

    Book her!

    Hiring Ali was the best decision we made for our wedding. From the very beginning, she felt like a helpful friend who was there to guide us through the planning and execution of our big day(s). She was a calm and supportive presence during our wedding weekend who made herself known when we needed her, but otherwise felt like a guest with a nice camera. Of course the photos look exceptional, but what stands out to us is her artistic eye and her excitement about her craft. She went absolutely above and beyond for us in so many ways and my family and I are forever grateful!

    She's so nice!

    We are introverted and were nervous about being photographed, but Ali made us feel comfortable from start to finish. She kept communication open and friendly throughout the entire process, which helped us feel at ease. On our wedding day, she went above and beyond—helping me with my shoes and offering to assist my husband with his tie. Ali captured the beautiful pictures we wanted based on our inspiration, even though we're not really photo people. She truly made our engagement and wedding photos special. We highly recommend Ali ! We loved our photos !!

    The Calming Presence You Want on Your Big Day!

    We had the most amazing time working with Ali! We had kind of a long engagement and we initially started working with Ali over a year and a half before our wedding to get our engagement photos done. Not only were the photos beautiful, but Ali made us feel super comfortable and at ease throughout our session. Leading up to our wedding day, Ali was amazing at coordinating the day of timeline with our coordinator and making sure that all the elements that were important to us were included so that we had enough time to capture the moments. One of my favorite things about working with Ali is her calm presence. Every time I was stressed about something in the planning process about the timeline I would talk to Ali and she would immediately make me feel at ease. She was constantly reminding me that the most important thing on my wedding day was to be present with our friends and family (and as a type A bride this was a much-needed reminder!) Ali also came to take photos at our rehearsal dinner and welcome party which was great because she got to know our families and our family dynamics before our big day which was a huge help! On the wedding day Ali and the second shooter Scottie were rockstars! They went above and beyond at every opportunity from helping the boys tie a bow tie, climbing out on my fire escape to get a crazy photo that I had in mind, moving locations at last minute, dealing with rain, helping bustle my dress, and of course capturing all the beauty of our perfect day. I will not hesitate to work with Ali and her team again! She’s amazing, a true professional, and I hope we have the chance to have her capture our big milestones in the years to come.

    Our new family photographer!!!!

    My husband and I cannot recommend Ali enough to anyone looking for a photographer!! We first got in contact with Ali last year for our planned wedding, but due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to have our big day, BUT we were lucky enough to transfer her services over to my sister and brother and law! After meeting Ali in person on their wedding day and seeing the magic she can do, it was an absolute no brainer that she would be there for our big day and any and every other event we need photography for! She truly became family and we cannot thank her enough for everything she’s done! She goes above and beyond in her work and truly makes the day so much easier and more fun than ever!

    Thank you Ali!

    Ali was an absolute rock star when it came to our wedding. She was extremely communicative in the months and days leading us to our wedding, helping us sculpt the experience and memories we wanted to remember our day by. The day of, she provided updates as she made her way to the venue and arrived ahead of schedule. Her care during the getting ready process was unparalleled, as she helped me into my dress and made sure to get creative detail shots which have become some of our favorites. During the reception she wrangled large groups of friends and families for group shots like a pro. She also was a huge calming and comforting presence, checking in on moments when things were difficult. I feel like I got a fantastic photographer and part time wedding planner with Ali. We were beyond thrilled with the sneak peak of the photos she provided us with the Monday after our wedding, and will treasure the moments she captured. Thank you again!

Currently I'm booking through 2025. While there's no deadline before your wedding that I need to be booked by, it's first come first serve and my available dates do fill up fast! I am beginning to take on fewer weddings in order to provide the best possible experience; being able to bring my full energy and focus to a smaller number of clients. So book early to ensure your spot! :)
Yes, however only as a custom add-on to your chosen photography package. Because I recognize the importance photography and videography each have in their own right as a service and form of documentation of important moments, requiring a tremendous amount of skill and investment in video-specific equipment, I am unable to juggle both while working solo. So adding videography to your packages comes in the form of sub-contracting a videographer for the day, with myself editing and delivering the footage as a curated video along side your photos. I am also always down to collaborate and work alongside an independent videographer vendor.
Absolutely. Not only do I personally sort through the thousands of photos taken to select the most flattering and perfect moments captured, I choose those that string together into the vivid story. Each is then refined and optimized for color, saturation, exposure, sharpness and crop to ensure they look beautiful. While I value the beauty in real life's imperfection, and opt not to do any airbrushing/body shaping, there's no reason a rogue blemish, bra strap, or garbage can need distract from an otherwise glorious photo, so I use my own judgement on minor retouching that will elevate a photo.
You'll get your first glimpse in the form of a "Sneak Peeks" album, usually within 48 hours of your wedding, so you can ride the wedding-bliss high and share some highlight moments right away . My turnaround time for the full galleries varies by season and the length of the wedding. Typically though, you’ll be able to view your photos online about 4-6 weeks after the date.
The vast majority of the weddings I've photographed I've done solo, to the satisfaction of my couples. However, if you have a particularly large guest count, or are concerned with more variation in points of view, then consider one of my packages that includes a second photographer, or one can be added to any duration package. My second photographers are all vetted and and either trained by myself, or are photographers whose independent work I greatly admire.
This is a balancing act. A huge part of my job is to apply a discerning eye in post and while I always aim to provide as many photos as possible, my priority is quality and variation, and more than anything I want you to have the real gems. At a minimum I guarantee 50 images per hour of photographing, however the actual outcome often hits closer to 100-125 per hour. The total number will be impacted by the number of guests and the photographic opportunities across your day's timeline that will be meaningful to you. Quality over quantity, but as long as they're worthy, I want you to have them.
I’ve never cancelled a wedding, but in the unlikely even that I’m unable to photograph your day, I’ll make sure you’re covered. If you've chosen to have a second photographer, they would take me place. And if not, or to fill the second photographer's role, I first turn to closet colleagues whom I work with regularly to check if they're available, and if that doesn't pan out, I have access to a network of photographers and I will find the perfect fit. I will still edit and deliver your photos as originally planned.
Travel costs up to 2 hours of driving one-way and up to one night's stay in a hotel are complimentary. Beyond that I will gladly travel anywhere! I just need help getting there. I will provide you with a flat rate that factors in miles of the drive or cost of airline tickets (and baggage fees, etc), hotel stays, rental cars, etc. This flat rate will be subject to pricing of travel costs at given time of year of the wedding and at time of booking (quote may change if there is a substantial delay between original quote and booking as reservation costs increase.)
