So now that you know a bit more about STDs (it still doesn’t get old)—that’s save the dates, for those of you who are new here—let’s talk about how to actually write this thing. Save the date wording should be short and sweet, and communicate just the basic information guests need to know: who is getting married, where, and when. The save the date should prompt guests to do the following:

  1. Check their calendars.
  2. Write down your wedding date on said calendar.
  3. Begin to think about attending your wedding, especially if travel is necessary.

You should also make it clear to guests than a real invitation will follow the save the date—this is just a “heads up!,” so to speak. If you’ve already set up your fabulous Zola wedding website, then absolutely include your website link so guests can go online and read more for themselves. You can also choose to include instructions for guests to RSVP online, if you’re doing online RSVPs and you’ve already set up your Zola Guest List with built-in RSVP tracker. Some folks will definitely know they plan on attending, so why not let them tell you as soon as possible. Having an early sense of your guest count can also help with all sorts of planning logistics, like deciding how many buses to reserve or how many dinner tables you’ll need to rent.
