Disaster

My wife and I hired Taylor Ryan Events to help plan our wedding in the Outer Banks. Unfortunately, the experience created far more stress than help. We knew she was newer to wedding planning and were willing to give her an opportunity. We paid a deposit expecting effort, communication, and someone who would help bring our wedding together. Instead, we ended up finding our own ceremony location, caterer, and the house where family traveling from around the country would be staying. Much of the communication we received also felt generic and AI-generated rather than personalized to us. So, ironically, I am using AI to help organize this review. We repeatedly explained that many Outer Banks businesses are old-school and often need actual phone calls rather than emails. Despite that, months went by with very little meaningful progress. When most of the planning had already been handled by us, we asked for help moving chairs and were essentially told, “I don’t usually do that, but I will for you.” Considering we were among her first clients and had already done most of the work ourselves, that was frustrating. We also felt our ideas were regularly pushed aside for whatever option was easiest. During one disagreement, we felt she was insinuating that our wedding could be a disaster if we did not follow her preferred direction. Eventually, we terminated the relationship. During the planning process, we had been told she contacted the rental company for the house where our family would be staying. When we later asked for those emails, we were told they had been deleted and that she had contacted them through her business email. We contacted the rental company directly. They told us they had never received those earlier communications from Taylor Ryan Events. Then, the day after we terminated her services, the rental company received an email from a separate address alleging that we were violating codes at the property. The email stated, “I advise them against breaking these codes.” We cannot prove who created or sent that email, so I will not publicly claim who did. However, the timing and wording were extremely concerning to us. That situation put at risk the house where our family traveling from across the country was staying. We are no longer having our reception there, but this was not simply a reception venue—it was our family’s accommodation for the wedding. My wife is also pregnant and has had to deal with all of this additional stress during what should have been an exciting time for our family. We hired a wedding planner to reduce our workload, communicate with vendors, solve problems, and help bring our vision to life. Instead, we did most of the important planning ourselves and dealt with even more stress after ending the relationship. I strongly recommend getting everything in writing, requesting copies of vendor communications, and independently verifying that important conversations actually happened. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Taylor Ryan Events.

I had a front-row seat watching Taylor plan her own wedding from beginning to end, and the level of thought and attention she put into every detail was incredible. From the overall vision and décor to coordinating vendors, timelines, and all the little details behind the scenes, everything came together beautifully. It’s really no surprise that event planning comes so naturally to her. Taylor has always been incredibly organized and detail-oriented, and that carries through in everything she does. She has a way of seeing the big picture while still catching the smallest details that make an event feel special and personal. As her mom, I may be biased about the bride, but I can honestly say I was impressed by the event planner. Watching her bring her own wedding to life made it very clear that this is something she was meant to do. I would absolutely trust Taylor Ryan Events to make any special occasion beautiful, organized, and memorable.

As a professional wedding videographer/photographer that has shot over 25 weddings, Taylor was by far the best planner I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Her communication leading up to and during the wedding was phenomenal. All the details I needed were ironed out before the big day, so my job of capturing it went as smoothly as someone in my position could ask for. At the venue, she made the transitions seem-less between each stage throughout the day/night. Anytime I (or anyone else) needed anything at all, she was right there to help/answer any questions, or even go out of her way to assist. In addition, I’ve captured weddings where the planner was great, but also not at all and it’s easy to tell how they do via the couple, folks, and vendors that attend it. Taylor did such a great job that the couple, attendees, and vendors never ran into any issues and had an incredible day. If you need a wedding planner, I can’t recommend Taylor enough as I’ve already told her I want to hire her for my own in the future. Thanks again Taylor for doing such an amazing job!
