Hi there, I'm Rachel, a portrait and wedding photographer based in Washington DC and NYC. With a BFA in Photography and Film from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master's degree in Film Studies from the University of Edinburgh, I have spent over 15 years honing my skills and deepening my understanding of photography as an art form. When I'm not behind the camera, I’m often delving into the world of mid-century design, watching films and going on hikes with my husband, Jamie.

I offer my clients friendship and memories in addition to beautiful photographs. Together, we’ll make the most of dramatic light, candid moments, and organic settings to capture your true essence. It’s always a priority that your time with me feels comfortable, effortless and natural. When documenting, I focus on the action and emotion, as well as the quiet, in-between moments. After a refined post-production process, I deliver cinematic photos; forever stills from a moment in your life. You live a unique experience that should be told in a genuine way and I’m here to capture it.

    Best decision for our wedding

    Hiring Rachel was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Her eye for composition and color gave us a gallery of magazine-worthy photographs. Even indoors and in low-light conditions, Rachel captured consistently beautiful shots. She also delivered our preview within a week and our full 500+ photo gallery in under 30 days. If you’re looking for stylized, yet natural-looking photos — not too cheesy, not the same pictures you see over and over on Pinterest — book her. We’re grateful we did.

    Phenomenal-- book Rachel!

    Rachel Walisko is absolutely the best photographer we could have hoped to find for our wedding!! We can't recommend her enough. Rachel gave wonderful direction to two people who aren't used to being photographed, and she had terrific ideas for where to take pictures in downtown DC. She got so many great candid shots of our friends & family dancing at our reception. The COLORS in her work are just beautiful. Book this photographer!

    Lovely service, quality value!

    We couldn’t be happier with Rachel and her expertise in shooting our wedding!! My/husband's details came together last minute and Rachel was patient and thorough throughout it all. Our setting went from forest to under a tent with inclement weather and Rachel was still able to get incredible shots. I couldn’t be more pleased with her work and style. You can expect about 80 to 100 images per hour of photographing. But keep in mind this estimate varies depending on your wedding package, number of guests, venue type, and other factors.
My turnaround time varies by season. Typically, you’ll be able to view your photos online about 4-6 weeks after your wedding. Within this time, you can expect to receive an online gallery with high-resolution image files, which you can share the photos with your loved ones and order prints. I also try to deliver 10-15 previews within a couple days of the event!
I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
Definitely. All final images will be hand edited to ensure they look cohesive and beautiful.
Most of my wedding packages include a second photographer!
No, I prefer focusing on photography only, so you can get the best wedding pictures possible.
Typically, couples book me from 3 months to a year and a half before their wedding date. I encourage you to reach out as soon as possible about my availability, even if you’re planning on a shorter time frame.
In my 12 years of experience as a wedding photographer, I’ve never cancelled a booking. In the very rare event that I’m unable to photograph your wedding, I’ll make sure you’re covered by one of my colleagues or my contracted assistant.
