Eagles Nest Reserve is a family-run vineyard and winery focusing on dry farming, no-till, herbicide-free agriculture to produce un-fined and unfiltered, low intervention wine. ENR’s wines are low in sulfites and aim to express the authentic and rustic representation of its unique geology and microclimate. At approximately 600 ft elevation and the eastern-most area of the Tualatin Hills AVA, the vineyard is planted on wind-blown loess over basalt, and is influenced by catabatic winds funneled through the Columbia Gorge. Wind Mountain is located along the Cascade Volcanic Arc, formed by basalt flows between 5 - 7 million years ago. Though relatively young by mountain standards, it has been weathered by wind and water since a time only the earth remembers. Humans are estimated to have settled in the area around 10,000 years ago, after the Missoula Floods carved rivers into the valley. Over time, these first people became the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, Stl’pulmsh (Cowlitz), Yakama, Confederated Tribes of the Warm Siletz, Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla. The land north of the Columbia River Gorge is their ancestral home. Wind Mountain carries significance to the Native Americans as a Spirit Quest destination and is home to a sacred archaeological site near the summit.
