The Barn at Gibbet Hill
Rating: 5.0 (2 reviews)
Groton, MA
  • Up to 200 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $15,000

Set in a beautifully renovated and restored 100-year old barn overlooking rolling hills of conservation land, the Barn at Gibbet Hill is one of New England’s most unique venues for weddings and special events. The Barn offers rustic elegance with unparalleled views. The first wedding at The Barn at Gibbet Hill took place in 2002 when Jed and Asia’s fantastic outdoor wedding plans got rained out. Back then the Barn was completely unrenovated – hay bales were moved to the edge of the room and the tractor had to be parked outside so a makeshift wedding aisle could be made. After witnessing the undeniable magic of that day, the idea to transform the Barn into a permanent wedding venue began to take hold. Two years later, after a massive renovation of the Barn was completed, The Barn officially opened for business. And two years after that, CBS-4 crowned the Barn the best wedding venue in the Boston Area!

Why you'll love this venue

  • Provides a dedicated team on-site
  • Full catering menu to choose from
  • Rustic charm with elegance

Venue considerations

  • Large venue, not ideal for small guest lists
  • No free parking
  • No on-site guest accommodations
“We found the Barn when searching for an all-inclusive yet customizable venue (so our wedding would feel like us), with good food and staff that would make the day feel seamless. LGBTQ friendly was a must. Ultimately, we’re so grateful we picked Gibbet Hill! Furthermore, having a daytime celebration allowed us to have the wedding we wanted within our budget. Overall, the Barn’s team was genuinely invested in making our vision come to life, and they more than delivered on our big day. From our very first intake and tour, we knew we were in good hands. Our planner, Bree, was with us from the beginning, answering every question with warmth and confidence that immediately put us at ease. Throughout the planning process she was professional, responsive, and just fun to work with. We also picked many of the Barn’s preferred vendors, who all spoke highly of one another so it was clear they had great experience and flow as a cross-vendor team. On the day itself, the entire Barn staff operated with a calming efficiency that made everything feel effortless. They had a grounding presence that kept us on track without ever making us feel rushed and that tone made an enormous difference. Our top notch team, including Bree, Sarah, Jess, and so many other amazing staff also helped with our dresses, carried our trains, drove us in a golf cart for photos, and took wonderful care of our guests throughout the reception (who commented on how well they were looked after). We even found out afterward that the team had helped our flower girl tend to a wasp sting during the festivities. That kind of attentiveness speaks volumes. Any issue that arose they handled with utmost professionalism. Also, the food was fantastic and we STILL get so many compliments from guests! Our personal goal as the couple was to enjoy the food and that we did. One highlight for us was also the “reserved for newlyweds” appetizer plate brought to us in the bridal suite. Such a thoughtful touch. We cannot recommend The Barn, Bree, and the entire team highly enough. If you’re looking for a venue where you’ll feel genuinely cared for from the first conversation to the final exit, this is the place. Thank you so much to the staff at the Barn at Gibbet Hill for making our wedding so special!”

“We got married at Field to Fork Farm on August 9th, 2025 and it was everything we dreamed of and more. It was an idyllic New England farm wedding with rolling hills, and farm animals straight out of a fairytale. The venue owners, Patrick and Daniela and their children are such kind down-to-Earth people and really made the wedding process fun and stress free. This venue is unique in that it’s really a blank slate and up to you what you choose for your wedding vision, from the ceremony layout, to the tent, to caterers, and decorations. Bringing in our own vendors took more leg work on our part, but it was well worth it as this made our wedding feel very special since we got to pick vendors to suit our taste. Patrick and Daniela were so helpful at answering our questions through the entire process, and allowed us to stop by to walkthrough the farm as needed for the planning process. On the day of our wedding Patrick and Daniela were so helpful making sure everything was well prepared from the ceremony setup to helping the vendors as they arrived. We had a few guests with difficulties walking, and Patrick kindly drove them to the ceremony spot in the south field in the golf cart. One of the highlights of this venue is that it’s a working family farm. They have so many cute animals including cows, donkeys, geese, chicken, and goats with 3 babies which were a huge hit with our guests who got to hold them! At one point there had to be at least 40 of our guests around the goats haha! Patrick even had the animals come into the pen closest to the tent so our guests could easily walk over to see them. Speaking of animals, the venue is dog friendly so our precious dog got to be part of our special day! The farm landscape is so beautiful, and Patrick and Daniela are constantly working to beautify their farm through projects like their new vineyard. We didn’t have to go crazy with decorations since the farm had so much natural beauty. This made for great photos. The farm is expansive, and our guests enjoyed walking around during cocktail hour and after dinner. There are so many scenic spots tucked away throughout the farm, such as their pond which we snuck off to for private vows on the dock before the ceremony, and photos in the canoe after dinner. A very unique part of this venue, is that camping is allowed! We ended up staying the night and camping and so did several of our friends as an after party. We had so much fun, and so did our friends. It was a great choice for us and our guests who wanted to continue the party without having to worry about driving home. We were allowed to use the space for the whole weekend, which was super helpful for setting up and packing up everything as we brought a lot of things in ourselves. We chose to have our wedding rehearsal at the farm as well, and it was a great experience! Another thing we did unique to the farm was include Field to Fork Farm spices as gift favors for our guests, which were a hit! Field to Fork Farm has a little farm store with delicious meats, spices, and other products for sale that we enjoyed purchasing each time we visited leading up to the wedding, so we knew we wanted to incorporate something from the farm for our guests. Overall, we highly recommend Field to Fork Farm as a wedding venue! Thank you to the Connelly family for making our wedding experience incredible! Professional photo credit: Carly Storro Photography”

When Shane and Wayne Bernard (Co-owners of Pica’s Pub and Grill est. 1939) were presented with the opportunity to expand next door into the building formerly occupied by Laschi’s Garden Center they jumped at it. Featuring several of their fan favorite items from next door, quality Italian Deli Sandwiches and Gifford’s Premium Ice Cream. They have provided ample parking and an amazing outdoor area for relaxing by the fire pit, a competitive corn hole match or just a spot to enjoy good times with friends and family. Cheers!

“Harrington Farm was the first venue my husband and I toured. From that moment on, we found ourselves comparing every other venue that we toured to Harrington Farm- spoiler alert, none of them came even close to checking all of the same boxes. Harrington Farm’s all-inclusive package is a no-brainer: ceremony & reception venue with a massive dinner menu, individualized day-of planning, cake (with 2 bakers to choose from), coffee bar, AND a 5-hour open bar?! Count us in! The team at Harrington Farm was nothing short of incredible. From day one, Lauryn took care of making sure that all of our planning went smoothly, answered all of our (many) questions, and constantly secured our trust in Harrington Farm with handling our big day. On the actual day, Jess was the best bridal attendant I ever could have asked for. She made sure each and every one of our needs were met all night long. In addition to all of the other perks, the food at Harrington Farm is beyond amazing (you can’t say that about most venues). We especially loved the option to add the smoker to our menu items! We have received (and continue to receive) numerous compliments on our choice in wedding venue and we have to agree. If you want your big day to be 100% magical, you absolutely must choose Harrington Farm.”

“Absolutely speechless. Dell-Lea is chef’s kiss perfect. We had the most amazing fall weather and foliage and sunset. Completely blow away by how effortlessly beautiful the day was - we brought no outside/ceremony decorations because the backdrop is so stunning. Laurie - our day of coordinator - was the master of all masters. She handled everything and seemed to be in 10 places at once all night long. She always checked in with us to see if we needed more food or drinks. She seamlessly handled a vendor snafu - our three bus drivers did not order a meal when I asked before our final headcount was due, but requested a meal on arrival at the venue. Laurie provided them each a meal and I didn’t hear a peep about it until the night was over! She helped my family pack up our decorations at the end of the night and made sure we had everything we needed. She even donated my bridesmaids bouquets to a local nursing home! The food - cannot say enough about how delicious the food was. Multiple guests came up to us during and shortly after dinner service to rave about their meals - the stuffed chicken, espresso encrusted filet, and cashew cheese ravioli. All so good, and my husband and I had all three at our table! The appetizers - incredible! The family recipe crab rangoons are worth the hype! The bartenders were incredible all night and nailed our signature cocktails. Working with Dell-Lea was seamless. I sent only a handful of emails before our details meeting because everything is so clear. Dell-Lea offers rental decorations, so we chose to rent table numbers, eucalyptus strands, centerpiece accents, and popular signage, saving us so much money. We cannot say enough good things about Dell-Lea - our day was so beautiful and perfect. We hope to be a guest at Dell-Lea someday!”

Over the years, it has been very well taken care of, so the original beams are still there, in sizes and shapes that you just can't get anymore! The owners are the third generation in their family to take care of the property and are very grateful to be the current stewards. The barn renovations completed in 2020 and it is all ADA compliant and up to code. In the barn, there is a full sound system, 14 chandeliers, a beautiful live edge bar top, two high end composting toilets (the flushing kind!), massive barn blue doors on each end, and a grand entrance staircase. The barn holds up to 200 people and is big enough that you don't have to rent a tent even with tables and chairs, a major benefit and money saver! In the event of rain, you can use the barn as a ceremony and reception space.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Private area for the wedding party
  • Unique barn setting
  • Wheelchair accessible

Venue considerations

“Sophie and Kyle are down to earth, caring, and a joy to work with. We planned a wedding for June of 2020 and had to postpone the reception by a year, which was no problem at all. The farm is a truly idyllic setting, and the 5-story newly renovated barn is astoundingly beautiful and fully equipped for multimedia experiences. Everyone who attended our party had a well-deserved blast after sheltering in place for so long. Thank you, Saltonstalls! Best wishes for your new adventures. <3”

“We cannot say enough wonderful things about The Barn at Bradstreet! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the charm of the venue and the professionalism of the entire team. Despite a few surprises from Mother Nature, the staff handled everything with grace, creativity, and calm. The venue itself is absolutely stunning—rustic charm meets elegant design in a beautiful setting. Every corner is photo-worthy, from the beautifully restored barn to the lush outdoor spaces. What really made our day unforgettable, though, was the team. Every single person we interacted with was kind, helpful, and incredibly professional. They went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. When the weather threw us a curveball, they improvised seamlessly and made sure our ceremony and reception were still perfect. Their ability to adapt while keeping us calm and happy was nothing short of amazing. If you're looking for a venue that combines rustic beauty with a team that genuinely cares about your day, you've found it here. “I first discovered Wedgewood Weddings while researching all inclusive venues in New England. I was surprised and delighted to see that they had their package pricing available on the website, the transparency and openness was an immediate green flag (and why I think the one star review here is completely unwarranted). You are able to price out your wedding with them before even walking through their doors, which is exactly what we did. We quickly reached out to schedule a tour! We were greeted warmly and shown the beautiful grounds at Fern Hill before talking about what package we would most be interested in. We chose the Premier Package, but everything is completely customizable within that. We left the tour with a copy of exactly what our wedding would cost and it didn’t take us long to decide that we wanted to move forward with Fern Hill. The all inclusivity of the venue is what puts Wedgewood over the top for excellence for us. In all my research, I couldn’t find any other venue that came ANYWHERE close to how all inclusive Wedgewood is. As a couple that has a hard time choosing what to have for dinner every night, we needed ease when it came to wedding planning. With Wedgewood we didn’t have to worry about finding a DJ, florist, caterer, or bakery. Beautiful invitation options are included, and the ones we chose allowed us to also add on extra decor and programs on top of that. They provided a lot of smaller decor necessities that saved us money and time (easels for signage, cake cutting utensils, baskets and boxes). The Bliss Benefits that are offered also saved us money on other expenses outside of what was already included. The best part is that your final cost is based off of your guest count, which can be changed up to 10 days before your wedding. When we had last minute declines, we were able to lower our final cost by hundreds of dollars. When we had another few declines happen after the 10 day mark, we were able to put that money towards adding lawn games on to our package. No money went to waste. Throughout the planning process, the team at Fern Hill answered any and all questions we had (no matter how small or seemingly silly). We were able to visit the venue multiple times through the year to be able to show our parents. When we decided to have a completely dry wedding, they were so excited for our signature mocktail ideas and helped us make that still fun and engaging for our guests. Rehearsal day could not have gone smoother. The entire team at Fern Hill are efficient, communicative, and just overall so good at their jobs. Wedding day was even better. We felt so taken care of and supported by the staff. The flow of the event was seamless, even when the schedule needed to shift for extra photo time. We received so many compliments on every aspect of the wedding; from the gorgeous ceremony space, the delicious food, the beautiful centerpieces, to how warm and kind the event staff was. We literally have zero complaints. We would highly recommend Fern Hill Barn, or any of the New England Wedgewood venues to anyone getting married. It was a completely stress free experience and has so much customization while still being all inclusive. We’re looking forward to being guests at a Wedgewood wedding in Colorado next year for one of my bridesmaids!”

“I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Nicole, Keith, and the Greatful Dane Lodge! My husband, Shaun, and I had our wedding here this past weekend, and I’m so “greatful” that we came across this venue when we did. After touring nearly 10 venues, we were starting to think we would never find the one. As soon as we met Nicole and saw the lodge, we knew this was it. Not only is the pricing genuinely affordable for a wedding, but the venue itself is absolutely stunning. All 55 of our guests were raving about it throughout the entire night! We booked the Destination Wedding Package since most guests were traveling from out of state, and everyone staying on site was comfortable and had plenty of space. From the moment we booked, I never once felt pressured, rushed, or like we were being nickel-and-dimed for every little thing. Nicole and Keith went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend everything we hoped it would be, and I could not be more appreciative of all the work they put in behind the scenes to make it happen. If you’re looking for a venue where you’ll be treated like a person rather than a paycheck, and where the owners genuinely care about making your wedding special, TOUR THIS PLACE!! You’ll fall in love with it just like Shaun and I did. ️️ We truly could not recommend the Greatful Dane Lodge, Nicole, and Keith enough!”

“Our wedding venue was absolutely stunning and everything I had pictured for our special day! The ceremony site was breathtaking, and it was exactly what I had envisioned when dreaming about our wedding. The house was perfect for getting ready and offered so many beautiful photo opportunities. And the barn was absolutely perfection! I had always wanted to get married in a barn, and I truly could not have picked a better place. The entire property was gorgeous and made such a beautiful backdrop for our wedding photos and memories. My only complaints were that we couldn’t have our rehearsal at the venue the day before, access on the wedding day didn’t begin until 11 AM, and we were responsible for taking care of the trash. Those things did make the logistics a little more challenging, especially on such a busy day. However, those few things aside, the venue itself was everything we could have asked for and more. If you’re dreaming of a beautiful barn wedding with a breathtaking ceremony location and a charming house for getting ready, this place is absolutely worth considering! We are so happy we chose it and will always look back on our wedding day here with the best memories.”

“When we first moved to Brattleboro back in 2023, the Retreat Farm was one of the first places we visited. Not only is the mission of nonprofit phenomenal, the organization hosts events that bring community together and folks closer to nature. When deciding on our wedding venue a year later, the Retreat Farm was one of our top choices. At the time, the North Barn was being renovated and had not yet been finished, but even then we saw the vision. I also think it is important to mention, as a queer couple, we received nothing but respect throughout the entire process. From the beginning, everyone we worked with from signing the contracts to planning the actual wedding, we received enthusiasm for our less than traditional wedding (Gothic Victorian/Halloween themed). Retreat Farm from the beginning was exceptional! I cannot reiterate enough how kind everyone was to work with. Working with Samantha as the venue coordinator was a breeze. She was accommodating, fun, and well organized. She answered every question, no matter how little. Planning a wedding is no easy task, but every step of the way, Samantha and the Retreat Farm staff were there. Franklin and the staff day of were also all so accommodating and there to help address any last minute hiccup! Everyone was also so fun and inviting to all of our guests dressed up in their costumes. We had an outdoor ceremony on Outlook Meadow and I know the work that would've gone into hauling the arbor, chairs, and sound system up that hill, but they did what they could to make our day PERFECT! We had our reception in the North Barn and even with spending time in the space before, I could not have imagined how perfect it was with all of our decor! The wood beams, tables, and lights balanced perfectly with our elegant Victorian and silly Halloween decor! No matter what style wedding you're looking for, the Retreat Farm will help you make it happen in the most beautiful spaces! If I could give more than five stars, I would!”

A popular wedding venue, the farm is surrounded by four authentically-restored historic year-round vacation rental properties accommodating up to 22 guests—one of which is Rudyard Kipling’s Naulakha where he penned the Jungle Book. The Stone Trust Education Center, located in the 1862 Barn, showcases beautiful, unique dry-stone wall installations around the property. Venue considerations

  • No in-house catering options

“My husband and I visited Scott Farm on two occasions before our June 2025 wedding and will continue to treasure it as a destination. The staff, especially Suzanne Tessitore, are absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond to help us produce the (slightly alternative) wedding of our dreams. Our 80 guests could comfortably gather in the Apple Barn, by the brook, and at Naulakha for our send-off brunch the morning after. The natural beauty and calm of Dummerston combined with the beautiful, quirky features of the property like the stone walls and cafe bar really made the whole event feel like an escape from reality. We were able to rent all the houses on the property for ourselves and our immediate families, which was a great way to spend lots of time together (and have help close by on set-up day!). It was personally meaningful to me as a native Vermonter to share this state with our people, especially at a venue that encapsulates so many of the values and features that I love about it. I could go on and on! Some more key points: - We were a very (very) DIY couple and appreciated the control we were given for space usage, setup, and flow of the day -- we did not need a lot of hand-holding and we never felt like we were being "managed" - I have a family member who uses a wheelchair and he was able to get around the Apple Barn and surrounding grounds just fine - We ordered apple cider doughnuts from the farm as part of our wedding dessert and they were A - The vendors that Scott Farm suggested to us were all great, and as someone easily overwhelmed by decision fatigue I appreciated that in this relatively remote area there weren't too many options - Many of our guests were LGBTQIA and (not surprisingly for Vermont) were very comfortable - My father in law wanted to bake sourdough bread for our welcome dinner and Suzanne brought us her personal dutch oven for him to use!?! I would recommend Scott Farm as a venue for anyone looking for a naturally beautiful, simple venue highlighting the Vermont landscape and local food economy. We will treasure these memories forever.”

“We were married 11/16/2024 here and we could not be happier with our choice of venue. Nancy and Donna were fantastic to work with and answered any questions we had right away. On the day of the wedding Donna was extremely helpful. We truly felt that the staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a good day; they checked in on my husband and I during pictures multiple times to ensure we were able to enjoy the appetizers we had selected. We got so many compliments about the food and the aesthetic of the venue. If you are concerned about food allergies, rest assured that you are in good hands with this kitchen. Anything we needed they covered right away. Our easel was missing a screw and they were kind enough to let us borrow one! We truly felt very taken care of. They were extremely patient and understanding with any decisions we had trouble making or any time we were disorganized. The wedding coordinator that they recommended to us was AWESOME to work with as well. I loved the bridal suite. We had so much space and the decor was beautiful. It reminded me of my grandmother’s house which made me feel even more comfortable. I highly recommend getting the apple cider mimosas and snacks they offer while you’re getting ready there! Absolutely kept everyone happy in the morning. Our photos and portraits that were taken both inside and outside are simply gorgeous; I can’t say enough about how good they came out. The way the lighting comes in is a photographer’s dream. The entire layout of the venue makes for excellent photos. This venue is also very affordable compared to every other space we looked at. It felt like it was made for us to get married in and we cannot wait to return there for dinner on our anniversaries. Thank you so much to the Salem cross inn for being a part of the happiest day of our lives!”
