Located off Cooper Square in one of New York’s most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods, The Standard, East Village is cozy, charming, and eccentric in equal measure—very much in the spirit of its surroundings. You enter the 21-story tower through an original tenement-style building before ascending to unparalleled views of Manhattan from the hotel's crowned jewel, The Penthouse. There’s a quiet, calm garden tucked away at street level that in the warmer months is filled with lush topiaries and floral arrangements, and in the cold season transforms into a magical winter wonderland. On the second floor, The Overlook is a cozy room perfect for a rehearsal dinner or cocktails, connected to The Perch which overlooks The Garden. Downstairs, there's Narcissa restaurant, which boasts its own private terrace, the street-side Café Standard, and NO BAR, a highly inclusive new wave gay bar with custom artwork and a disco ball.

Having never been privy to what goes into a wedding reception, I was in the dark about a lot. So, I had difficulty understanding what to choose and how much our choices would cost. If it wasn’t for the close proximity to the church, I may have chosen a different venue for our reception. The food and beverage was the biggest expense and the biggest source of confusion. The real disappointment of the F&B was the limited amount of food. The shrimp appetizer was good. However, there was so little, if you didn’t grab some, it was gone. Of the three entrees to choose from, the only one that was any good was the fish and the portion was less than one would reasonably expect for an entree. The chicken was dry and hard, a huge disappointment. The lemon tart dessert was good. The space itself is very nice. Fortunately, it was just the right size for our reception.

This past August, my daughter Sheraden chose to get married in the vibrant city of New York. For us, it was a destination wedding, as we live just outside another great city, Toronto, Canada. After visiting several venues, we decided on Bryant Park Grill—a special place for our family, as it was a memorable stop during our first trip to NYC when Sheraden was just 11 years old. Clearly, the city left a lasting impression, as it has become a favorite destination for her over the years. Planning a wedding from a distance is no small feat, especially for us, as we have a background in event decorating and are typically very hands-on. From our very first meeting with Kristi Ohlin, the Catering Sales Manager, we knew we were in good hands. The team at Bryant Park Grill has an incredible depth of experience in hosting events, which became evident throughout the entire process. To say they are experienced is an understatement. Kristi and her team kept us on track from start to finish and recommended outstanding vendors, many of whom we chose to work with. While we brought our own creative touches—including some sizable props—we entrusted the team at Bryant Park Grill to execute our vision seamlessly. Coordinating wedding décor and logistics in a bustling city like New York is no easy task, but Kristi and her colleague, Diane Giovannone, went above and beyond to ensure everything came together perfectly. Their ability to understand and bring our ideas to life, even without our direct involvement on the day, was nothing short of extraordinary. The result? A wedding that exceeded our expectations in every way. The venue’s attention to detail, professionalism, and dedication to creating a flawless experience made for a truly magical day. Bryant Park Grill is a 5-star, white-glove service establishment that operates like a well-oiled machine. And the food—oh, the food! It was exceptional, surpassing our high expectations and delighting all of our guests. We cannot thank Kristi, Diane, and the entire Bryant Park Grill team enough for making our daughter’s wedding the most epic and memorable event of our lives. Many of our family and friends remarked that it was one of the best weddings they had ever attended. With heartfelt appreciation and love, Tanja & Dean Link, Angie & Beni Colalillo, and the Bride & Groom, Sheraden & Alessio
