Beneath the Spruce
Rating: 5.0 (2 reviews)
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $3,000
  • Serves Keystone, SD

I’m a Rapid City and Black Hills wedding photographer with 10 years of experience creating natural, heartfelt images for couples who want their day documented with honesty and ease. I’m drawn to soft light, real connection, and the quiet in-between moments that make your story yours. Whether you’re celebrating in the pines, the prairies, or downtown, my goal is to preserve your day in a way that feels genuine and timeless.

Charity at Beneath the Spruce was a dream to work with. Her communication style was timely, upbeat and responsive, and the quality of her work was excellent - high quality, with great attention to detail, bright and knowledgeable. She helped us with a plethora of poses and made sure everyone got the photos they needed in an organized manner. Beyond capturing the posed shots, she also documented timeless candid moments between my husband and I that we will cherish for a lifetime. Her work speaks for itself, but it's also her professionalism and attention to detail that make her stand out above everyone else.

I’m a natural light photographer based out of Rapid City, South Dakota. I specialize in wedding & family photographer that truly tries to capture the raw, candid, and intimate moments. I picked up a camera & was drawn to photographing every day moments that I didn't want my mind, or my heart to ever forget. It wasn’t long before I got other families behind my lens & strive to capture the same emotional connection that drew me to this artistic craft in the first place.

My husband and I hired Edgar (Anchor Studios) as our photographer for our wedding on July 7, 2024. He did an amazing job!! Since we started working with him for our engagement pictures up to the wedding and after, he has been great at communication and very professional. He went above and beyond by helping us create a timeline for our wedding because didn’t know how weddings usually go. He worked so hard on the day of our wedding to get the best shots, and was very kind and helped us a lot with organizing order of events. He had great ideas for poses and was very mindful to get all the pictures we wanted with family members and bridal party. And even better than all of this, when we got the pictures, they came out amazing!! It’s very clear that he put a lot of hard work into making them look incredible. He is a very talented and skilled photographer. We were blown away by how they turned out! We are very thankful for how hard he worked and how great he made the picture look! We highly recommend him!

Hey there!! My name is Alexis and I'm so glad you're here. I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Hankinson, ND, with ties to Minneapolis as well, so I am in MN often and will gladly come wherever you are! I love the all things outdoors, especially forests and couldn't live without coffee.

I had Alexis (and Sam) photograph my wedding at the Avalon Events Center on 6/13. She was awesome every step of the way, from having a huge bag of wedding kit items, helping pose and manage family for photos, and coming up with ideas for photos to make use of the large gap of time we had between the ceremony and the grand march. I don't think I saw her and Sam put down their cameras the entire 8 hours they were there on that day, so I'm excited to get the full gallery of photos! She was also able to rush us out for some awesome sunset photos when we only had a few minutes to get them. Cannot recommend her highly enough! Her price is extremely reasonable for the great quality of service and photos she provides.

Every time they looked at each other, I felt my heart swell. The ceremony was short but incredibly moving. The bride’s smile was radiant, and the groom’s excitement was palpable. There were small, intimate moments that made the whole day feel personal and meaningful. The reception was filled with laughter, dancing, and endless joy. Even strangers in the room felt the energy of their connection. I left thinking about how love can truly transform a day into something unforgettable. That night will stay with me forever.

Her communication was amazing, she answered all of my questions quickly. She made us feel very comfortable! Working with her and her fiance felt like we had all been friends already, we just clicked (haha). Side note: we got to help out two poor little stray kittens with them, so animal lovers always a plus in my book! I am madly in LOVE with the photos she took, they are absolutely perfect!!!! She was able to capture our dream come true and so much more!!! They are so beautiful!!! She was even able to finish the editing earlier then planned. I already talked it over with my husband, and we plan on hiring her again in the future! A five star rating does not do her justice, she was hands down the best!!!

Hey, hey my name is Ali. NY-based, but working nation-wide, I'm a wedding photographer who captures experiences, genuine love, authentic characters, and immortalizes precious memories. I focus on visualizing how it felt to live your wedding day, while also crafting editorializations simply for the sake of intentional, living art. I am adamant that everyone, of all genders and orientations, any ethnicity, culture, or faith, all shapes, ages, and abilities, are welcome and I’d be delighted to work with you.

Awarded Best of Zola
We had the most amazing time working with Ali! We had kind of a long engagement and we initially started working with Ali over a year and a half before our wedding to get our engagement photos done. Not only were the photos beautiful, but Ali made us feel super comfortable and at ease throughout our session. Leading up to our wedding day, Ali was amazing at coordinating the day of timeline with our coordinator and making sure that all the elements that were important to us were included so that we had enough time to capture the moments. One of my favorite things about working with Ali is her calm presence. Every time I was stressed about something in the planning process about the timeline I would talk to Ali and she would immediately make me feel at ease. She was constantly reminding me that the most important thing on my wedding day was to be present with our friends and family (and as a type A bride this was a much-needed reminder!) Ali also came to take photos at our rehearsal dinner and welcome party which was great because she got to know our families and our family dynamics before our big day which was a huge help! On the wedding day Ali and the second shooter Scottie were rockstars! They went above and beyond at every opportunity from helping the boys tie a bow tie, climbing out on my fire escape to get a crazy photo that I had in mind, moving locations at last minute, dealing with rain, helping bustle my dress, and of course capturing all the beauty of our perfect day. I will not hesitate to work with Ali and her team again! She’s amazing, a true professional, and I hope we have the chance to have her capture our big milestones in the years to come.

Hi, I’m Isaac. In my world, light is everything. The cool ambient hues at dawn, hinting at what the day may bring. Golden sun rays catching particles through a tree as friends gathers to celebrate. A Cotton candy sunset peppered by patio string-lights as a DJ plays my favorite song. We all have timeless memories logged in our minds. For me, they are based in a language of light. As a wedding photographer, this deep connection to special lighting helps me produce dynamic visual stories of romance, personality and beauty.

Awarded Best of Zola
We loved Isaac and his wife, Jing, who photographed our wedding earlier this month. Isaac was super calm and collected and on top of everything. His photography style was perfect for us. He already delivered about half of our retouched photos a week after the wedding which was insane and I love every single one. He was flexible with the 5 flower girls we had in and out of pictures and the multiple areas on our venue property. Overall an amazing experience and I recommend his work to anyone and everyone looking. He was very considerate when I first reached out about his work and wanted to use him and was very mindful of his travel fees to fit in our budget.

When my husband and I planned our wedding, we knew that a skilled photographer was one of our top priorities. We could not have gotten luckier in finding Cecilia to be our photographer. She did such an amazing job with our photos and was such a joy to be around. When in the planning phase, she worked with us to make sure we planned out the shots we wanted and got the style of photography that we preferred. She was so flexible working around our hectic schedules the day of and made sure to have every picture we wanted planned and ready to go. She was a hoot on the dance floor and brought so much fun energy that our guests raved about. We were also married in a fairly remote area and she made traveling here a breeze. I genuinely believe Cecilia was the best photographer we could have possibly gotten for our wedding and we will forever cherish the memories she captured so well that day. Thank you for everything!

I cannot express how amazing Angela was. She has not only a super warm personality. But also an amazing work ethic. I got the package for two photographers and they were both phenomenal. While I was getting ready(we are running about 30 minutes late) she was out taking photos of the venue, the lay flat photos, and the other details pictures. She even held onto our rings for me because the bridal suite was a wreck and I didn’t wanna lose them. All in all my experience with her was a 12/10 experience.
