About Matt Ritchie Photography

Matt Ritchie Photography

I’m a New Zealand–born wedding photographer who moved to NYC in 2018, focused on capturing real moments over forced poses. With a calm, intuitive approach, I allow you to stay present while I thoughtfully document the emotions and in-between moments that define your day.

What sets me apart is my calm, intuitive approach. I know when to step in with gentle guidance and when to step back so real moments can unfold naturally, especially in fast-paced New York City environments.

    City Hall Wedding Photos

Overall 11/10! If we could give him 6 stars we would. The quality of his work and the time in which he got the photos back to us was incredible!

    Incredible Photos

Matt is a wonderful photographer to work with. He made us feel comfortable and gave great direction. The photos he took were absolutely incredible, I still get comments on how awesome they are from friends and family months later.

I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
Absolutely! I encourage an initial consultation call to get to know each other, discuss your vision, and see if we're a good fit. Whether it's in person or through a video call, I'm happy to connect with you and answer any questions you may have.
I personally edit all final photos for color, exposure, and consistency, keeping everything true to the moment and natural in tone. I don’t deliver unedited or raw files, so your gallery is always complete, polished, and ready to share or print.
Most couples book their wedding photographer anywhere from 6–12 months in advance, especially for peak season dates in New York City. That said, I occasionally have availability for shorter timelines, so it’s always worth reaching out to check.
Yes. I offer both photography and videography, but I personally cover one or the other on your wedding day. If you’d like to book both, I’ll bring in a trusted colleague I regularly work with so you receive the same level of care and consistency.
The number of photos varies depending on coverage, but you can expect a thoughtfully curated gallery that tells the full story of your day. I focus on quality and storytelling rather than delivering a set number.
Turnaround times can vary depending on the season and my current schedule, but I always prioritize quality and care in every gallery I deliver. For weddings, full galleries are typically delivered within 4–6 weeks, with a handful of sneak peek images within 24 hours. Proposals are usually delivered within 2 days, and elopements are typically delivered within one week. Every timeline is approached thoughtfully to ensure your images truly reflect the significance of your day.
In the unlikely event that something unexpected prevented me from photographing your wedding as planned, I have a vast network of trusted colleagues in the industry that I regularly work with. I would personally coordinate a replacement photographer of equal experience and style, and I would still handle communication and the final editing to ensure consistency. In all my years as a wedding photographer, I’ve never had to cancel a wedding, but I believe in having a solid backup plan in place for peace of mind.
To secure your date, a signed contract and 50% retainer are required. Once both are complete, your date is officially reserved on my calendar.
Yes, I love traveling for weddings and elopements. Travel fees may apply depending on the location, but I’ll always be transparent about costs upfront.
Absolutely. I’ll guide you when needed, but my approach is very natural and relaxed. I focus on movement, connection, and real moments so your photos never feel stiff or overly posed.
Yes! I specialize in intimate weddings, elopements, and New York City Hall ceremonies. Whether it’s just the two of you or a small group of guests, I focus on documenting the day naturally and authentically.
Yes. I always welcome any must-have family groupings or meaningful moments you’d like captured. I approach the rest of the day organically so nothing feels overly staged.
Yes. I always bring backup cameras, lenses, and memory cards to every wedding and event so nothing is left to chance.
