About Living Pictures

Living Pictures

Living Pictures is a documentary wedding photography team based in San Francisco. We specialize in candid, natural elopements and weddings at SF City Hall, Baker Beach, Lands End, the Marin Headlands, and throughout the Bay Area. Our four lead photographers — Barbara, Ana, JJ, and Shaylyn — bring the same unposed, real-moment approach to every wedding we shoot. We photograph all couples, including LGBTQ+ weddings and elopements. Bold, colorful imagery. Packages start at $1000, full print rights included.

Four lead photographers means you never lose your shooter to illness or conflict. We know San Francisco deeply — City Hall, Baker Beach, Lands End, Palace of Fine Arts, Marin, and dozens of hidden spots. We photograph all couples, including LGBTQ+ elopements, with a documentary, candid approach: no shot lists, no forced poses, just real storytelling. Every gallery is hand-edited and delivered within two weeks with full print rights. Local expertise, genuine experience, starting at $1000.

Living Pictures ladies are the best!!!

I’m so grateful we had Barbara and her second shooter at our wedding! The rain was nonstop, the venue turned into a muddy mess, and I was completely overwhelmed. But these two handled it all like absolute pros—staying upbeat, rolling with the chaos, and even making jokes to lift my sister and mom’s spirits when they started stressing out. Their energy and support made such a difference! Thank you both for being there for us—I truly appreciated it. Can’t wait to see you again for our maternity shoot!

    Couldn’t be happier

As someone who is camera shy and tends to feel self-conscious in front of the lens, I was nervous about being photographed on such an important day. But Barbara & Shaylyn blended into the background so seamlessly that I didn’t even notice when they were capturing moments. When I saw the photos, I was blown away. The gallery was stunning—beautifully editorial while still feeling authentic. They managed to capture all the right moments, with perfect smiles and emotions that truly reflected the joy of the day. I couldn’t be happier with my gallery and prints—they are absolutely gorgeous and will be treasured forever.

    Like in a movie

Choosing JJ & Barbara (Living Pictures) was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. From the first meeting to the final product, they brought a level of artistry and storytelling that exceeded all our expectations. Watching the final video and looking through the photos felt like reliving our wedding day in the most magical way. It’s not just a record of the event—it’s a piece of art that we will treasure forever. Thank you, Barbara & JJ, for turning our wedding into something truly unforgettable.

    So so so talented

Ana is unbelievably talented and captured so many stunning moments that we’ll treasure forever. Their eye for detail and creativity brought our special day to life in every photo. Beyond their skills, they were the best person to have by our side—calm, organized, and so much fun to work with. It felt like having a friend there, which made the experience even more enjoyable. If you want breathtaking photos and a truly wonderful person to capture your big day, look no further!

Documentary and candid. We follow what is actually happening rather than directing you through a list of poses. Our goal is to capture the real moments — the laugh before the kiss, the hand squeeze during the ceremony, the way you look at each other when you think no one is watching. The result is bold, colorful imagery that feels alive rather than staged. We shoot all couples the same way: natural, unposed, and full of life.
Living Pictures has been photographing weddings and elopements in San Francisco and the Bay Area for over eight years. Our four lead photographers — Barbara, Ana, JJ, and Shaylyn — have collectively photographed hundreds of weddings, elopements, and intimate ceremonies across SF City Hall, Marin County, the coast, and beyond.
After you reach out, we schedule a short call to learn about your day and make sure we are a good fit. Once you book, we send a planning questionnaire to gather timeline details, location preferences, and any important moments to prioritize. In the weeks before your wedding, we confirm the final timeline and do a location scout if needed. On the day, we arrive early, stay out of the way, and capture everything as it unfolds. Your full gallery of hand-edited images arrives within one to two weeks, with complete print rights included.
Living Pictures is a team of four lead photographers based in San Francisco: Barbara, Ana, JJ, and Shaylyn. Every photographer on our team shoots with the same documentary, candid approach. For elopements and intimate ceremonies, you work with one lead photographer. For larger weddings, we pair two photographers to ensure full coverage. Having a team means you are never one cancellation away from losing your photographer.
We are based in San Francisco and photograph weddings and elopements throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. Our most popular locations include SF City Hall, Baker Beach, Lands End, Sutro Baths, the Marin Headlands, Mt. Tamalpais, Palace of Fine Arts, Golden Gate Park, Filoli Gardens, Pulgas Water Temple, and Half Moon Bay. We also travel regularly for destination weddings across California, the US, and internationally.
Your full, hand-edited gallery is delivered within one to two weeks of your wedding day. You will receive a private online gallery with complete print rights — you can download, share, and print your images without restriction. For larger weddings with the Premium package, delivery is within 3-5 weeks.
Yes. We offer professional print products including wedding albums, fine art prints, and photo boxes. All packages include full digital print rights, so you can also order prints independently through any lab you choose. We are happy to recommend our preferred print partners.
We do not work from traditional shot lists, because they pull us out of the moment and into a checklist. What we do instead: during planning, we ask you to share the people and moments that matter most — family groupings, key guests, specific traditions — and we make sure those are captured. Everything else we find as it happens. This approach consistently produces galleries that feel real rather than rehearsed.
Yes. We offer a cinematic highlights video (approximately 3 minutes) as an add-on to any photography package. The video is shot and edited in the same documentary style as our photography — real moments, real sound, no scripted speeches or posed segments.
The most important thing is to build enough time into your timeline. Rushed timelines are the number one reason couples feel stressed in their photos. We recommend at least 30 minutes for portraits, and we will help you build a realistic schedule during planning. Beyond that: wear what makes you feel like yourself, eat before the ceremony, and trust us to handle the rest. We will find the light, manage the timeline, and keep the energy calm.
We shoot in all conditions and have photographed some of our favorite images on foggy, overcast, and rainy days. San Francisco's famous fog is genuinely beautiful on camera. We will communicate with you in advance and adjust the plan as needed — our goal is always to make the day feel easy, whatever the conditions.
We hold your date exclusively from the moment you book, which means we turn down other inquiries for that day. Our cancellation policy is outlined in the contract. For rescheduling due to circumstances outside your control, we work with couples on a case-by-case basis to find a solution. We recommend wedding insurance for additional peace of mind.
Yes — always. LGBTQ+ weddings and elopements are a meaningful part of our work. We photograph all couples with the same documentary, candid approach: no assumptions about roles, no awkward pauses over pronouns, just genuine excitement about telling your story. San Francisco is one of the most meaningful cities in the world for LGBTQ+ couples to get married, and we are proud to be part of that.
Yes — SF City Hall is one of our most frequent locations and one of our favorites. We know every corner of the building: the Grand Staircase, the Fourth Floor light, the Rotunda, the Mayor's Balcony, and the quieter spots that most photographers miss. We photograph both civil ceremonies (booked through the SF County Clerk) and private events. Our City Hall guide on our website walks you through the full process.
September and October bring the warmest, clearest days and are ideal for outdoor elopements. Summer is famously foggy on the coast — which is moody and beautiful, especially at Baker Beach and Lands End. Spring is mild and green. Winter is quiet and uncrowded, with dramatic light. Honestly, every season in San Francisco has something to offer — we will help you plan around the conditions.
Absolutely. California has no residency requirement and no waiting period for a marriage license. You can arrive in San Francisco, get your license from the SF County Clerk inside City Hall, and marry the same week. We work with out-of-town and international couples regularly and can help you plan the entire day remotely — location, timeline, permit requirements, and everything else.
Our packages start at $1000 for a two-hour elopement or City Hall ceremony. A four-hour wedding package is $2000. Full-day coverage with two photographers starts at $5000. All packages include a full gallery of hand-edited images with complete print rights. We also offer add-ons including additional hours ($500/hr).
Yes. We are based in San Francisco but travel regularly for weddings across California, the US, and internationally. Travel fees apply for destinations outside the Bay Area. Reach out and we will put together a custom quote for your location.
The best elopement locations in San Francisco combine natural beauty, manageable permit requirements, and great light. Our favorites include Baker Beach (Golden Gate Bridge backdrop, sunrise or sunset), Palace of Fine Arts, Legion of Honor, and Sutro Baths (coastal cliffs and cypress trails), the Marin Headlands (dramatic views across the bay), SF City Hall (iconic architecture, no outdoor permit needed), Marin Civic Center, Old Mill Park and Golden Gate Park (redwood groves and hidden gardens). We will help you choose the right spot based on your vibe, timeline, and the time of year.
Yes. Engagement sessions are available as a standalone booking or as an add-on to a wedding package. Our Premium package includes a complimentary engagement session. An engagement session is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day — and to explore a San Francisco location you love. Sessions are typically 1.5 to 2 hours.
