How much does a wedding photographer cost?

Wedding photographers early in their careers can cost as little as $1,500. Super experienced photographers, as seen in magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair, can cost upwards of $30,000. The range is wide, but, in general, you can expect to spend around 10% of your budget on wedding photography. Rates also vary based on wedding length, the services you want, and location. A photographer based in an area with a lower cost of living, for example, will be less than one based in New York or San Francisco.

How much should we tip our wedding photographer?

A good rule of thumb is to tip 10% of their rate, or at least $100. If they’re bringing second photographers or assistants, an additional $50 to $75 per person is an appropriate and nice gesture.

From our very first conversation with them, they were incredibly friendly and amenable - willing to work with us regarding our budget and offered packages not based on how they could get the most amount of money from us, but on how their packages would help us execute our vision of the perfect wedding. However, where George Street really shines is in their team. We chose Jeremy as our lead photographer and he brought such a joy and passion to the photos that he took. We had chosen a rather unique venue for our engagement session (one without the best lighting to be fair) and he took such care in crafting each shot so that we both looked our best, but also popped against the background. You could tell while he was taking every photo that it was not about getting the next shot and moving on, but that he cared about getting the right shot for you. That kind of care extends to the rest of their team as well. Nora and Emily were incredibly communicative throughout the entire process. They responded to almost every email within 48 hours of sending and anytime we had a question about anything, no matter how small, they were more than happy to walk us through it either via email or by hopping on the phone. Their user portal for creating a wedding plan is also very user-friendly and was helpful in determining important moments to capture during the night as well as the best way to structure our wedding in terms of timeline. In terms of the actual wedding day, we had Mario as an associate photographer and Randy as our videographer in addition to Jeremy. Once again, all three made us feel like we were absolute stars. For Randy in particular, he was seemingly everywhere at once. If there was something happening on the dance floor or a moment of revelry happened anywhere, he somehow captured it. The process of receiving the photos & videos afterward was also much quicker than anticipated and they were stunning. We had such a hard time choosing what photos would go into the album. Overall, this was an incredible team to work with and if we were to do it all again, they would be our first choice.”

“I highly recommend Sound Originals for wedding photography based on the communication, organization, value, and most importantly, the final product. Gabriella was always very responsive and clear in the messages sent via the online portal when we had questions. I was a bit hesitant to book this vendor because I didn’t know anyone who’d used the company before, but I’m glad I did. We were lucky to get paired with Jared as our photographer and immediately felt comfortable with him on our virtual planning call. On the day of our wedding he was prompt and had plenty of ideas ready to go, but he was also very open to any ideas we had. He never made us feel rushed at all as you could tell he wanted to take his time to get the shots right. He was patient when necessary, efficient when necessary and always reminded us to let him know if any poses didn’t feel comfortable or natural. We didn’t have a second shooter but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at our photos as Jared managed to get great variety in the angles during the ceremony and reception. The photos are beautiful and we are looking forward to framing a few. We got the sneak peak within 2 weeks and the full photo gallery not too long after that. The only critique I have is that the florist we used was incorrectly tagged on the sneak peak instagram post, and wasn’t corrected even though I reached out via direct message and comment. The flowers were beautiful & the correct florist deserved the credit. Overall, I would definitely work with Sound Originals and Jared in particular again in the future.”

“From Day 1 of communication: Lauren was absolutely so professional. She was super easy to talk to, really direct & transparent, and helped us figure out a package that worked best for us. She was prompt & efficient with all communication. She gave us rights to own & use all of our photos (given a good old tagged link to her profile on social media). —this was extremely important to us! Day 2: we met over the phone to go over things & she again, was soooo prompt and professional. We didn’t love how other photographers were highly intrusive in our love story or the nuances of our love story. As contractors ourselves, we wanted someone that was clear, concise, and transparent with communication & she exceeded our expectations. She was able to accommodate our request to have our Aussie puppy a part of our wedding & our engagement photos. It didn’t hurt that she has a sweet pup that looks virtually identical to our lil boy. Day 5: she just got us all of our wedding photos back. The entire suite. There’s SOOOOO many pictures. She did a phenomenal job not only capturing our favorite moments, but really giving us the freedom to pick which photos were really valuable to us. She took time & care & really has an incredible eye. As if we weren’t totally obsessed already…Our friends got married a week after us & used a different photographer, and honestly, seeing their photos that were 3x’s as expensive and a quarter of the quality, we were EVEN MORE validated going with Lauren. I highly recommend her services. I can’t wait to get pregnant in the next few months, & I’m 10000000% going to ask her for some epic pregnancy shoots. 100/10”
