At 8 years old, I would pretend to DJ on the radio using my parents’ Beach Boys records and a wooden spoon for a mic. At 17, I started DJing on the radio and I was hooked! In college I majored in communication and performing arts, where I honed my improvisation and listening skills to better connect with people and smoothly adjust to every situation.

My focus goes far beyond just playing music. I believe a wedding DJ should not only bring the right energy to the dance floor but also act as a steady presence throughout the day. Helping manage the timeline, reading the room, and making sure transitions feel natural and stress-free. After I finished my PhD in genetics and molecular biology at Yale, I left behind a career as a research scientist to pursue a lifelong dream as a professional sax player. While the pandemic was a roadblock to many musicians, I managed to gain momentum as a street performer when I began hosting outdoor concerts for the local entertainment-deprived graduate students. A few of my fellow graduates asked me to perform at their weddings, and even DJ, so I spent the next two years honing my skills and constructing a very 80's synthwave-style brand and equipment to match the vibe.

What once started out as a favor for an old high school teacher has now turned into a thriving business for Ryan Schumacher in central Iowa.
