Creativity has played a role in my life ever since I was a little girl. I grew up in upstate NY loving the outdoors and being close to the mountains! Although I loved where I grew up, when I graduated high school I decided to move South to Georgia to pursue a degree. While studying Fine Arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design, I fell in love with photography. I received my B.F.A in photography and then moved back home to NY where I became busy photographing weddings.

Valerie Caviness, NYC native is one of the most diverse photographers with a career spanning over the last 20 years. Valerie started out in editorial photography and branched out to events, commercial and architectural photography. In 2010 she took a position as the head photographer at the NYSE. Her position covered many areas of photography including, photojournalism, events, marketing, and portraiture. In 2017 Valerie branched out on her own to continue working with clients, focusing on corporate events and marketing. In 2020, she shifted her business to Weddings . She now lives in Albany with her husband and 3 children.

After nearly a dozen years of photographing feature stories, covers, and events for a statewide labor union, I found a passion for capturing beautiful moments for families and couples in a candid, photo-journalistic style. In June of 2021, I had the immense privilege of photographing twenty-four weddings - and an engagement! - for Beekman 1802's "Let Love Bloom" wedding marathon in Sharon Springs, NY, and fell in love with wedding photography. It's an honor to document a couple's love story - each one completely different than the last.
