Oakwood Creek Celebrations
Rating: 5.0 (2 reviews)
Julian, CA
  • Up to 100 guests
  • Select services
  • Outdoor
  • Starts at $3,400

Oakwood Creek was built in the 1930s by WW Wood and his wife Leanora. Wood drove a truck that hauled dairy milk from the outlying ranches into the town of Julian. Later on, Wood would operate B&L Liquor on the main street. The remains of W's garage are still very apparent on the property today, along with his goat shed & stables. We have one of the last intact water towers in the historic district. The property has been preserved to reflect the period in which it was built. This beautiful venue sits atop a picturesque knoll overlooking the historic town of Julian. Sherry Horton, owner of Oakwood Creek Celebrations, offers signature style that everyone—no matter their affair—will find "oh so easy". Growing up in rural Ohio, Sherry brings the style of country that is reminiscent of simpler gracious time, learning from her grandmother Emma Barrett of all things romantically beautiful. Sherry’s work has been featured in Country Living Magazine, Where Women Create, and San Diego Magazine.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Pets can join the celebration
  • Creates a sense of togetherness

“Oakwood Creek made our wedding dreams come true...if you are looking for a rustic, charming, cozy, and intimate venue, look no further - you have found it in Oakwood Creek. As a couple that paid for our wedding ourselves, finding the perfect venue, location, setting all within budget started out challenging. But after one tour at Oakwood Creek, we knew right away we found our venue. (It actually was our first and only tour, that's how certain we were.) We had 35 guests (planned for 40) and it was the perfect size. My husband and I only wanted our closest friends and family so this venue was perfect for us. We were able to get plate rentals through the venue and coordinated all of our vendors through Oakwood Creek. The entire team at Oakwood Creek is amazing. I definitely had a few moments of tears before the wedding after 100% rain was forecasted on my wedding day but the team pivoted everything indoors for the reception and we were able to do the ceremony outside. They all kept me grounded and answered every single one of my questions (there were MANY) lol! If you are looking for not just a stunning venue but also a wonderful and kind team that will make the best day of your life even more memorable, definitely schedule a tour at Oakwood Creek and book your wedding day now!”

Mt. Woodson Castle by Wedgewood Weddings
Rating: 5.0 (2 reviews)
Ramona, CA
  • Up to 250 guests
  • All-inclusive
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $12,000

Perched in the rolling hills of Ramona, California, Mt. Woodson Castle is one of Southern California's most extraordinary wedding destinations, where old-world grandeur meets the untamed beauty of the San Diego backcountry. Built as a private dream home by dress designer Amy Strong, construction began in 1909 and culminated in 1920 as a stunning embodiment of the American Craftsman Movement. Amy personally selected stones from the slopes of Mt. Woodson, building with eucalyptus, oak, and redwood harvested on-site. No chalk lines were used, leaving uneven floors and rooflines that give the castle its irreplaceable soul. The 12,000-square-foot, 27-room masterpiece features 4-foot-thick walls, four fireplaces, and an eclectic identity blending European, Medieval, Mesoamerican, Mediterranean, and East Asian influences, crowned by a working windmill. Just 40 minutes from downtown San Diego — unlike anywhere else in Southern California.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Accommodates more than 200 guests
  • Provides a dedicated team on-site
  • Provides setup and cleanup

Venue considerations

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Dance floor not included
  • Lighting and sound are not included
“We had our wedding here on June 6th and it was absolutely everything we hoped for and more :) What made Mt. Woodson perfect for us: - highly professional and friendly staff from our first tour to the day and communication afterwards, special shout-out to our day-of coordinator Jessica and Derek & Kelsey who worked with us while planning - Stunning outdoor and indoor venue, so you can have the ceremony & dinner outside and then switch inside for the party and dessert. Bonus: in the worst case of bad weather you still have a fantastic place for your wedding instead of a back-up tent solution. And you can go until 11pm while other venues limit the party to 10pm. - Amy's Closet is filled with items to use free of charge and they allow DIY flowers/decor which was important to me since I am artistic and wanted to give my wedding a personal touch. Only thing you have to do is assign a person resposible for set-up & take down but our day-of coordinator was so sweet to lend a hand too. - Food was fantastic! We opted for 2 carving stations & buffet style dinner but they also offered plated menus for our guests with dietary restrictions. Our guests were complimenting the food and many went back for seconds and vegan & vegetarian guests were happy with their plates too. Plus: you get to take home the delicous left-overs- they even packed a beautiful to-go plate separately for the bride & groom. - Plenty of parking with option to leave the car over night. Just beware that Ramona is a bit remote so it is not quite as easy to catch a ride, so preordering transportation makes sense. There is some stairs and uneven paths but myself as a bride and all other guests in heels were getting around just fine and also our older guests had no complaints. They were also very accomodating of my brother who is in a wheel chair and they had bathrooms that were accessible for him. Thank you again to the whole Mt.Woodson staff for the BEST experience ever!”

“We loved having our wedding reception at the museum! It was a unique venue, bright, and spacious. It’s an experience we (and our guests) still talk about almost 6 years later. It was a stress free wedding as Jenny (venue coordinator) was so easy to work with and very helpful in coordinating with all of our vendors and day of wedding coordinator. The museum has an approved list of vendors, and made suggestions that made the night even more special (like keeping the dinosaur skeleton out during the reception!) The cocktail hour was held on the second level, and the guests were able to walk through the exhibits. The reception was on the first level which was spacious.”

As someone who works weddings every weekend, it was surreal to finally be on the other side and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience than with Flora The Venue. I might be a little biased, but the coordination team is genuinely top-tier. A huge thank you to Jameson, Jade, Ash, Angie, and Adam for making my husband and myself feel so supported and celebrated every step of the way. Most of all, I’m so grateful to Katherine, Flora’s owner, for her constant support, guidance, and generosity throughout the planning process. “I got married at the Coronado Island Marriott in April 2023. It was the most magical weekend of my life! It was an Indian wedding - 300 guests and had events both Friday and Saturday (3 events total), all held at the Coronado Island Marriott. The views from the wedding site are stunning - you get the water and downtown skyline as your backdrop, and people were stunned. One of our events (Sangeet - Friday night) was at the hotel's Skyline Terrace, and the sunset hitting downtown and the lights in the night were breathtaking. You also get a view of the Coronado bridge. Everywhere you go, there are views. Our guests were raving all weekend about the accommodations. The hotel boasts the biggest hotel rooms in San Diego, and they did not disappoint. They were extremely clean and modern. The biggest bonus was the hotel wasn't huge to where people felt overwhelmed walking from one side to another. It was intimate while still being spacious, and you got the vibe it was my wedding wherever you went in the hotel. The hotel is super close to the ferry to downtown, so when people had free time, some of them would go downtown for food or site-seeing, and come back. It was super easy. The hotel has a spa as well (my husband and I got a couples massage the day after the wedding), which is so tidy and relaxing as well. There's a park nearby, and flamingos on site which I know a lot of the kids loved watching. The Coronado Beach is a 10 min drive (which is where we got some of our wedding pictures done), and a few people spend time there. The hotel also has a wonderful/spacious pool area, which a lot of my friends used. There are also a lot of restaurants walking distance from the hotel, which was nice since each of the families had welcome dinners at separate places - guests didn't have to worry about ubering or walking far distances. There's something for everyone to do/see during down time at or near the hotel. The hotel at the restaurant is called Albaca, and served up some delicious food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all great), and cocktails. My husband loved Albaca's spicy margarita so much when we visited one time, that he decided to make it his signature drink! I know a lot of guests spent time there hanging out. I have to give a shoutout to Kheshini over at the Marriott (Director of Event Planning) who was with us every step of the way - from site tours, to signing, to helping us plan the event, to being there when it all came together. Even if we visited the Marriott unannounced and we let her know we were in town, she'd go out of our way to say hi. She is so friendly, and just the person you'd want helping run your event. She worked with us to try to get everything we wanted, and to make sure that we were happy (ex. I wanted a very specific watermelon vodka for my signature drink, and Kheshini made sure that they were able to find it and order it in time). She was also extremely patient with the questions that came from our parents (which was a lot!). If you're considering booking the Coronado Island Marriott as a wedding venue, I 10/10 would recommend to anyone. You will not be disappointed, and I felt like a princess the entire weekend. Everyone there is extremely polite and accommodating, and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and happy on the most important weekend of my life thus far.”

“Personal Touch Dining, especially Daisy Ochoa and Hannah Adams, were truly phenomenal. Daisy was our main point of contact and an absolute professional. From the start, she gave us so much confidence. She guided us through every step with patience, clarity, and kindness, answering all our questions and handling our spreadsheets and details with ease. Hannah kept all our scheduling and logistics perfectly organized and was always incredibly responsive. Their resources, timelines, suggestions, and regular check-ins kept us on track and completely stress-free. Before the wedding, they coordinated our rehearsal, food tasting, meal selections, dessert orders, and our request for bilingual bartender and waitstaff, which meant so much to us and our families. Our production meeting with Daisy was especially helpful; she walked us through every detail, asked thoughtful questions, and made sure nothing was overlooked. On the wedding day, Daisy was so kind and attentive. She made sure we were fed, taken care of, and stayed on schedule. The team's help with setup and decor was outstanding. They brought our vision to life beautifully and handled every detail so we did not have to worry about a thing. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and could not have asked for a better team. Personal Touch Dining, Daisy, and Hannah made our wedding seamless, joyful, and unforgettable. We highly, highly recommend them!”

“We absolutely loved having our wedding at The Thursday Club. The views are gorgeous, the space is beautiful, and it gave us exactly the kind of wedding we wanted. One of our favorite things was how much flexibility we had to make the space our own. We really wanted a circular ceremony so we could literally be surrounded by our family and friends while we got married, and Chris was completely game. He helped us figure out how to make it work in the garden, and it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the entire wedding. Standing there surrounded by everyone we love, with the ocean in the background, was incredibly special. The flow of the venue worked so well too. We had the ceremony in the garden, cocktail hour spread between the garden and terrace, and then moved inside for dinner and dancing. It felt romantic and intimate while still having plenty of room for our roughly 150 guests. The interior is beautiful on its own, plus we had separate spaces for both of us to get ready before the wedding and were able to use the stage during the reception. Chris was also just a lovely dude to work with. Before the wedding, both Ellen’s parents and my parents visited San Diego on separate weekends and wanted to see the venue. Chris welcomed both families and personally showed them around. One of those visits was even on a holiday, and he still took time out of his day to make our parents feel welcome. They were excited about the wedding and wanted to see where their kids were getting married, and the way he treated them meant a lot to us. He was also incredibly responsive and on top of things throughout planning. Venue logistics can get complicated with insurance, vendors, what you can and can’t bring in, timing, and all the random little rules you don’t think about when you first start planning a wedding. Chris flagged things early and was clear about what we needed to do, so we weren’t suddenly scrambling for insurance or discovering requirements right before the wedding. We always felt like we knew what was coming. And then there is just the setting itself. Garden ceremony, cocktails overlooking the ocean, dinner and dancing inside, all in one place. The whole evening flowed beautifully and felt so romantic. We have such good memories of The Thursday Club and are really happy we chose it. Gorgeous views, a beautiful and flexible space, and a genuinely kind person running it. Chris, thank you for taking such good care of us and our families.”

“We just had our wedding at Tower Beach Club in August and it was such an amazing place to get married!! You get a waterfront venue right on mission bay with wrap around views and an adjacent lawn (the owner helps you get a lawn permit) for the ceremony. The big perks for us was being by the beach, fun atmosphere, a bar was that was main star being inside and outside of the venue. We also had the venue til midnight! The dancing got to go all night long. When 10pm hit, glass doors would close so you could continue to party! Which is hard to come by for most venues. It fit all the perks we were looking for and The owner, Stephan, was super easy to work with. He was very communicative and the staff were super helpful. Most venders love the venue as well, which helps with a DIY venue. We were able to create a blank canvas into a stunning wedding! Highly recommend getting married here for a coastal San Diego wedding!”
