About this venue

Woodend Sanctuary & Mansion is an elegant wedding venue in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Conveniently located just 9 miles from downtown DC, it resides on a private 40-acre nature sanctuary. Built in 1927, this historic location was designed by the renowned architect John Russell Pope, who also designed the Jefferson Memorial, DAR Constitution Hall, and the National Archives Building. Environmentally conscious couples will appreciate this venue’s commitment to nature and wildlife preservation, offering a beautiful and sustainable setting for your special day. Part of the rental fee is tax-deductible.

Your guests can dance the night away in the mansion and enjoy cocktails both indoors and out. The climate-controlled tented terrace, available from April to November, offers a beautiful and accommodating space for your reception. There are 2 staging rooms: one for each of you and your wedding parties. We have a vetted list of 8 approved caterers for you to choose from. You can provide the alcohol, and the caterer will provide the bartenders, set-up, etc.

We LOVED having our wedding at Woodend! Beatriz was so helpful and answered all of our questions, as well as keeping us updated as the tent set up changed over this past year. The new tent is gorgeous and the whole venue is so gorgeous, including the grounds! We were happy to keep our decor minimal and let the mansion’s beauty shine, and we got so many compliments on the venue’s set up of having the dance space (Main Hall) separated from the dinner seating (tent). We also loved Woodend’s gorgeous property, which really shined for our late October wedding. Would fully recommend considering Woodend for your wedding - plenty of parking, beautiful space, great team, and your venue fee goes to a great charitable cause.

Yes, you can provide the alcohol, to be delivered the Friday morning before your event. The caterer will provide the soft drinks, bar set-up, bartenders, etc.

Yes, complimentary parking for up to 70 vehicles. Overflow parking nearby.

Yes, all our facilities are wheelchair accessible. We also have ramps at the main and side entrances, and to the grove area where most ceremonies take place.

Our venue rental fee covers the event space. The caterer does the set-up, clean-up, brings tables, chairs, china, flatware, glassware, and linens.

Your reservation includes eight hours from start to finish, including 2 hours for vendors to set up, and 1 hour for vendor clean up. Any additional time needed can be rented based on availability.

Event insurance is recommended but not required. Damages or overtime charges are the responsibility of those who caused it, such as vendors or renters.
