Connection is what drives my work. Real moments surface quietly, when people feel comfortable and seen. It's in those in-between spaces where the emotional truth of a day actually lives. I photograph people the way I see them, with patience and a curiosity for what makes them unique. I'm Daniela Garza Maldonado, a New York City–based wedding and portrait photographer with over 15 years of experience. Originally from Mexico, inspired by the masters of painting and cinema, and trained at the International Center of Photography, I bring an editorial artistic eye and a documentary approach to every celebration I photograph.

My work is documentary at its core, with an editorial and fine art sensibility. I approach every couple and every wedding as its own story. I adapt to who you are and how you move through the world, working with natural light and a minimal footprint to create a relaxed, unforced environment. The result is imagery that feels both beautiful and true.

Gorgeous, high-end photos through an artist's lens
I originally met Daniela when she shot my brother's wedding over 10 years ago and I still remember how the whole family sat down to look at them together. We were absolutely blown away by her elegant, sensitive work. So much so that my other two brothers also hired her for their weddings and, you guessed it, I eventually hired her for mine as well. My favorite thing about Daniela's photography is that she has a keen editorial eye. Her shots are framed with intention, taste and, most importantly, context. Her photos tell relational stories and I love that she treats every part of the wedding as an important character - the couple shines just as much as the family, the guests, the venue, and all the little details you agonize over the wedding-planning process and hope someone notices. I would describe her style as a mixture between documentary and editorial portraiture. There's a fine art-style originality to her framing and her shots are both relaxed and full of life as well as sharp; she captures all the unmissable moments. As a person, Daniela communicates very directly and succinctly while also having a beautifully grounding and calming presence. She's a consummate professional and makes you feel confident that she won't miss anything. She is gifted at gently (but effectively) wrangling large groups of people for the family photos. She works FAST but with precision, which is what allows you to actually enjoy your wedding instead of getting stuck posing for hours. She zips around to get all kinds of angles but does so imperceptibly; she knows how to blend in very well. I also know she has shot weddings in Germany, Mexico, the United States and he manages to capture the cultural nuances of the event, which I find truly unique. I really, really enjoyed working with Daniela and it was such a relief to have someone so experienced and reliable behind the lens. I LOVED that my brothers and I all had our weddings shot by her. Having her artistic eye and voice on all of our photos just imbues them with so much timelessness.

Daniela Captured Our Day Perfectly
Daniela was absolutely amazing to work with! She made us feel so comfortable on our wedding day and guided us through every pose in a natural and relaxed way. Daniela is Amazing!
Daniela did such an incredible job photographing our wedding, I would recommend her to anyone who asks. We chose Daniela for our wedding photographer because we loved her portfolio and felt her style was perfect for us. It was also important for us to find a bilingual photographer who would be able to communicate with both sides of the wedding party. She was excellent at communicating and was capable of keeping things calm and relaxed throughout the whole process, while also being very efficient and always ready to capture the perfect moment. I truly treasure the photos she was able to take that day. We have so many of them hanging throughout our home. The moments and memories she was able to capture were more than I ever expected or hoped for. We loved working with her so much that a few years later we asked her to photograph our pregnancy photos, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. She has a true eye for capturing the details and making each moment feel special and unique.
