How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“My daughter and her husband chose Milton Ridge for their wedding venue. I live on the opposite coast so I had no opportunity to have a look myself. She and her husband were very happy with the layout of the property and the location. She assured me that staff were warm and friendly as well as very professional and that all questions were addressed promptly and in great detail. My daughter and her husband felt listened to and respected by everyone at Milton Ridge. I was anxious but it was their wedding and they had done a lot of research! I am overjoyed that they chose Milton Ridge for their very special day!! I spoke to many guests and family members that day and evening; everyone had high praise for the couple’s choice of venue. The property is self-contained with a beautiful turn of the century chapel on the lower level of the property and a very large bricked patio on the upper level; with an enormous wooden gazebo at one end and tiered garden area at the opposite end. Indoor or outdoor wedding?? Hard to choose as both areas are sooooo lovely. The Bridal suite and Grooms quarter are in a building adjacent to the chapel on the lower level of the property. Another turn of the century building with Bridal suite, porch and porch swing on the ground level and the Grooms quarters on the 2nd level via a private enclosed stairway; providing total privacy for both parties and their respective entourages. Both areas were very well appointed, comfortable and large; plenty of room for multiple people in each area to get ready for the big day! The Reception Hall was on the upper level with a porch and short stairway leading from the hall to the outdoor patio. The Hall was fresh and bright with plenty of room for DJ, tables, dance floor, bar and buffet without feeling overfilled or crowded. Bride and Groom chose the bar-b-que menu for their dinner; it was beautifully presented, delicious and plentiful. No one left Milton Ridge hungry that evening! The wait staff and bartenders were all very attentive and had obviously been very well trained at table service and bar service respectively. Music was provided by a DJ who was contracted by Milton Ridge and was included with the package that my daughter and her husband had chosen. The selection was a mix of old and new with the focus of getting the guests up and dancing. He was very good at his job and he accomplished his goal! Last but definitely not least; the photographer; also contracted with Milton Ridge! He was amazing!!! The unique shots, quality and beauty of his work left us speechless. He was everywhere, but never in the way, always inconspicuous and watching for that perfect candid shot. Even his posed photos had a very relaxed casual look about them. All photos were organized and available to the newlyweds on the Milton Ridge website within 10days of their wedding day!! ALL pictures belong to her and her husband to print, copy and share with whoever they wish!! Milton Ridge exceeded my expectation and I would never hesitate to recommend them to anyone!!”

“Look no further! If you’re anything like us, The Gardens will be the only venue you need to tour! It was truly love at first sight when we toured The Gardens. It checked all of our boxes so we had no doubts in our mind. Over the course of the two years we spent planning our wedding, Amanda and The Gardens staff were always easy to reach and happy to answer all questions. We appreciated the "can do" attitude of everyone at The Gardens, and their help with making all of our requests seem like no big deal. From our mobile photobooth inside of a VW Microbus, to our 6-piece jazz band during cocktail hour, to our cigar bar and lawn games - the staff let us utilize what felt like every inch of the property and were happy to make all the arrangements needed to accommodate us. You can tell that the maintenance of The Gardens is a labor of love for Johan and all involved - the restored 1800s Cream City chapel and schoolhouse as well as the garden space bursting with colorful flowers are a testament to the love and effort that goes into keeping this historical property beautiful. We got endless compliments on our venue selection. Our guests could not stop raving about how stunning of a setting it was. The Gardens takes care of both catering and bar, and boy, do they do it well! We got lots of compliments on the food, some even saying it was the best wedding food they ever had! The bar staff (especially Julian!) were accommodating to our ideas for super boujie signature drinks and mocktails, which were happily consumed by our guests. We will forever be singing the praises of this venue and every wonderful person who makes The Gardens what it is. “Venue One Eleven was everything we envisioned and more. The food was AMAZING. We had so many compliments on the food. Highly recommend the salmon & short rib. The venue itself was so spacious & beautiful. It’s pre-decorated which made our lives so much easier and saved us a lot of money in the long run. The courtyard is filled with flowers & was a good place to step away from the dance floor for some fresh air. The stage was perfect for our band & made it feel like we were at a concert! We rented the townhouse about 10 steps across the road from the venue for our wedding parties. It was AMAZING to be so close to the venue for the entire weekend & it is decorated SO cute. It sleeps about 16 guests so our wedding parties didn’t have to worry about driving the night of the wedding & my bridesmaids & I used the top floor to get ready together the morning of. Our coordinator, Alisa, was the biggest blessing we could have asked for. That woman went above and beyond to make our lives as easy as possible. She has worked with many vendors in the area in the past so it made planning the day of timeline much easier for us! “Where to even begin! First off, my wife and I had a fairly large wedding for NYC, roughly 200 people, so when we started to look at venues, we were so nervous about what we would find. Rule of Thids was actually the first venue we saw, and we were blown away by the space. If you’re renting out the full venue, you get access to the entire restaurant, plus the event space, as well as the outdoor area. It makes the flow of the wedding so nice, so everyone wasn’t crammed into one space as they were trying to flip it for the ceremony, dinner, and dancing. We were also able to rent out the photo studio attached to the sake shop to get ready in, so we were on-site all day, which was AMAZING. We could easily discuss things with our day-of coordinator, florist, etc., and the space was so large and had impeccable light (our makeup artist and hair stylist were super happy with it!). We chose to use the venue coordinator, Julie, as our day of coordinator, and we cannot say enough good things about her. She was incredibly responsive, super organized, and comes from the wedding industry, so she brought up things that we didn’t even think to consider for the day of that were so helpful. Beyond that, she was so pleasant to work with and just had an amazing, chill vibe that everyone wants from their coordinator on the wedding day. It was also amazing that she works at the venue, so she knew all the ins and outs of the space and could easily coordinate with our other vendors. She helped ensure the bridal party was in the right places at the right time, moved people from room to room when needed, and helped us stay on track with the flow of the wedding, which was perfect and so seamless. She and the ROT team set up the entire space exactly as we envisioned, and everything looked beautiful! The venue is honestly perfect for a wedding. We were able to use private dining spaces in the venue for a photobooth and coat closet, plenty of bathrooms (not something you think about until you go to a wedding with too few!), an amazing outdoor space for guests to cool down/get away from the noise, a huge dance floor area, spacious dining room, and so many bars for our guests to go to. The staff were all amazing, endlessly refilling drinks and food, and everyone was incredibly nice. Even after all of the amazing things above, the best part about Rule of Thirds is the food. From the cocktail hour to the dessert, this food is amazing and well beyond typical wedding standards. We had so many guests tell us how good everything was, and we were told this was the first wedding at the venue where every single canape and raw bar item was eaten, so our guests were very happy! (if you can, splurge on the raw bar because it was so good!!) After the ceremony, they set up a spot for us to sample all the canapes and raw bar items, which we were super thankful for since we would never have eaten anything otherwise. We also had a very specific request for a mazeman noodle dish we had eaten when we toured the space a year prior, and the chef and team made it happen for us, which was AMAZING and so incredibly delicious. If you’re looking for a wedding venue and considering Rule of Thirds, DO IT! We wish we could relive the day all over again because it was so amazing, and we will forever be hoping someone else we know gets married here so we can experience something similar again.”

“The Best Place at Pabst was so easy to work with, affordable, flexible drink packages, lots of fun amenities, natural atmosphere and decor means you don’t need to do much decorating of your own, I could go on and on. Our guests could not stop raving about how unique, intimate and lovely the space was. We used the Blue Ribbon Hall which included a balcony space which we used to give our guests the opportunity to play classic WI card games; Euchre, Sheepshead, cribbage etc… It was a great, separate space to hang out but still be a part of the celebration and watch the dancing. The staff even accommodated our last minute request to play the Bucks playoff game on the projector during dinner! “Our 100 person wedding at Paradigm Gardens in April of 2024 was perfect. For starters, their Private Events Director Karen is unparalleled. Communication was clear and consistent from the very beginning, and we never felt like they were trying to upsell us. As two more laid-back brides, she made sure we didn't overlook any important details. If your food is the most important aspect of your wedding, stop reading this and call Paradigm Gardens to book now. Our budget was fairly limited, but Chef Pat over at Karibu Kitchen (Paradigm Gardens' Catering) made the most of every dollar we spent. The food and bar packages were, hands down, the best we encountered at any venue in New Orleans. We had so much fun designing our custom menu with Chef Pat, and the tasting at Tchoup yard was one of our favorite parts of the planning process. Our family and friends still tell us it was the best food they've ever had at any wedding. The team even went out of their way to make sure our bar included our favorite brand of pickle vodka shots which turned out to be one of the highlights of the night. The location in Central City was perfect. It allowed us to have our rehearsal dinner downtown, and also take our pre-ceremony pictures at Audubon Park without requiring much driving time to and from the venue. The lush garden was more than we could have asked for as a backdrop. We said our vows in a short ceremony then watched the sunset over cocktails and dinner. The jasmine was in full bloom which made for awesome photos. The goats were a big hit with our wedding guests and the outdoor kitchen acted as a sort of fiery centerpiece to the whole evening. We had a local DJ playing New Orleans bounce and spent the majority of the night on the dance floor under the string lights. Without a massive budget, we anticipated having to compromise on a lot of aspects to be able to afford a wedding in New Orleans, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. We will forever be grateful to the folks at Paradigm Gardens for giving us the wedding of our dreams.”

Over the years numerous companies used the building until 1985 when it was bought by John Haight, who refurbished the building. The Haight features two floors and a rooftop area. “I hosted a wedding for my son and my new daughter-in-law last weekend. I am in awe of the whole evening. The venue was so beautiful. We had the wedding and reception in the same room. After the wedding, all the guests went out to the bar area for the cocktail hour. The room was magically transformed from a wedding ceremony to a reception within a very short time. The owners, Cathy and Brendan, were so easy to work with. They made us feel comfortable the first time we met. They answered all our questions and were very accommodating. Cathy, Brendan and Kelli, our coordinator, guided us through the whole process, from beginning to end. And the food! We elected to use The Lasagna House, which was fabulous! Their signature lasagna and the chicken fettuccine penne pasta was delicious. Every guest I spoke with enjoyed both the gorgeous venue and the dinner. I could go on and on about this fabulous place, but instead, just go see it for yourselves. They have open houses frequently. You can see the wedding venue and taste the different caterers’ food and cakes. I could not have asked for a better experience at The Heights Villa!”

“Landis Valley Farm & Museum was the absolute perfect backdrop for our ceremony and reception! We knew when we were looking at venues that we wanted it in a barn setting and for the place to have a laid-back, fun, and casual feel. Landis was exactly that and more! Not only is the site maintained with the utmost care, but every building at the farm is so exquisitely quaint and beautifully rustic. Such a gorgeous place as a whole, especially for pictures during our big day. We knew during our very first meeting with Katelyn, our venue coordinator, that we were in good hands. Katelyn was experienced, professional, knowledgeable, and available by email at what seemed like the drop of a hat for all of our questions, big or small, leading up to our day. She was extremely organized and clear on expectations of what we should anticipate in having an event here. Like for example, making it clear from the day we scoped out the venue that it is an a la carte type venue, and we would be responsible for reaching out to all vendors that we would want to hire. She did provide a list of vendors that past weddings had used, which was extremely helpful, and we were lucky to find a few from that list, along with the others that we researched on our own. Katelyn’s attentiveness even the week of our wedding was so comforting. Along with our day of coordinator (that we hired from Fancy Peacock), Katelyn assisted in executing a check-in schedule for all of our vendors the day of, and everything went so smoothly! Landis does provide two attendants, one during the day and one night, who oversee the property - thanks, Dave and Elliot! Overall, if you don’t mind some DIY, and finding most vendors on your own like my husband and I, Landis makes for a dream come true wedding venue!”

“We were married at Laumeier Sculpture Park in 1999, so when our 25th Silver Anniversary rolled around this year we decided to do it again!! We live out of town and they were gracious enough to meet with me when I came to town a few weeks before to walk through everything ahead of time.
