How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“From the moment we stepped in to the event office to just sit down and see what they had to offer, We knew this is where we wanted to get married! Everyone was so welcoming and easy to talk to. We were given a timeline as to when we had to have certain things done and when we should schedule the next appointment. We ended up ahead of the game, which put all the anxieties at ease. Our event coordinator was Alex, she was absolutely amazing! So personable and caring. I went in having absolutely nothing planned other than my colors, and she helped us put everything g together with such ease. We got married at Lawnhaven, and all of our guests were throughly impressed with the event in its entirety. They made it so easy to put the menu together and fined vendors with their tasting events. We were surprised at how much fun my husband and I had planning everything! If I had to do it again I would not change anything!!”

“We had our wedding at the Milestone Mansion on 10/31/2025. The venue is amazing and beautiful. From the moment we toured it, we knew that we wanted to book there. They have both outdoor options for a ceremony as well as an indoor option. We held our ceremony outdoor, down by the gazebo. Then our cocktail hour on the patio, and reception in the ballroom. It was the perfect day. The staff on day of was spectacular, and have heard nothing but good days. We worked with Melissa throughout our planning process and she was great. Was always able to answer questions and accommodating. We added on the day of coordination and had Melissa run our day. Would highly recommend anyone to do that. She took care of all the nitty gritty and we got to enjoy our day completely. It is very apparent that Melissa loves what she does and is very passionate about it. We are not aware of any issues or things that came up, and we have to believe its because she handled everything. She set up our decor and ran our timeline for us. They offer multiple all inclusive packages that can fit anyone's needs, as well as add-on features. I think they are able to fit what anyone is looking for, as they are accommodating and flexible. We switched out one of ours beers in our bar package for a seltzer, and that was a hit. The food was delicious and the bartenders provided great service for our guests.”

“I went to the open house last year and fell in love with the Venue at First sight. The grass, pecan trees, citrus trees, and then 40,000 lights sold the deal. We got married on 5/25/24, with almost all guests flying in. Every guest commented on how romantic the venue was. Stephanie and Ben were the best; they were both very professional and provided their expertise when needed. I can't forget how the ceremony went perfectly due to the support and always encouraging staff, especially Ben. Ensemble Catering is a part of the venue, and being that I have mostly foodie friends, everyone thought the food was delicious. The late-night Fries and Cookie Wall were discussed for the next few days when guests called to say how much they enjoyed the evening. Another consideration in my 5-star review is that the vendors in the package and on their website were just as great to work with. My husband and I are so grateful to everyone who worked that day and all the others who helped plan and make it the best day of our lives. “We got married here on Sunday 9/29 and I really can’t say enough good things about this space. The team was great to work with and all of our guests were so impressed by the space because it’s not like anything else really. I LOVED having the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in one room because we wasted almost no part of our day shepherding folks from place to place. The caterer recommended to us, Premier, was also amazing and they were on it and had many great suggestions to make the day as great as possible as they work in the space often. If you want outdoor photos before we found two great little parks to work with and ended up doing our first look and family portraits at “Leather City Commons” which is a three minute drive down the street. Then the two of us walked the ten minute walk back to Olio from there and got some great photos by Peabody City Hall and there are truly a plethora of great brick walls to choose from for a good backdrop! For getting ready we stayed at the Bell Inn and Tavern and their team was also amazing! I got ready in a Junior King Suite my parents were staying in and their team flipped the bridal suite early (as they had a wedding party the night before) so we could do bridal portraits with the moms and my sister. My husband and I stayed there that night and the room is gorgeous. My only regret with that space is we didn’t stay longer because it was so beautiful!!! (And the room service food we ordered from the tavern for lunch was great!) Shout out specifically to Kelsey and Heather for all of their help. Logistically I was a little nervous about it being in Peabody as we live closer to Boston but parking is free on Sundays and folks could Uber easily to the venue. Many out of town folks loved being able to stay near Salem to make it a great weekend trip. Last, I cannot recommend enough having a day of coordinator. I know Sarah who runs Olio has her own planning company and would be amazing to work with. I was lucky enough to have an amazing coworker and friend who helped me out and I literally gave him a binder with everything and I did not stress about anything for the entire day. I did not see my cell phone or get asked a single logistics question all day and it was GLORIOUS. I think that covers everything and will absolutely update if I think of anything else that can help out future brides considering this great space!!!”

“Our wedding day & the planning leading up to it was absolutely perfect and we can't thank the Chicago Winery staff (especially our event manager Hulda!) enough for making our wedding come to life exactly as we dreamed it. The venue is gorgeous, our guests raved about the food/appetizers/cocktails/etc. and it is truly a night we will never forget. Being able to go outside to the cocktail hour terrace was also a huge plus to get people moving around and seeing new parts of the venue while the Chicago Winery staff transformed the whole space from ceremony to reception. We worked with Amy right after booking the space and she was so helpful in being a resource for us to bounce questions off of as we began planning. We utilized a lot of the preferred vendors (florist, DJ, etc.) that Chicago Winery recommended and they did not disappoint. “We could not have been happier with our decision to get married at Walden! From the moment we booked our date, the planning process was made seamless and actually enjoyable thanks to the incredible built-in planning team, Kalila and Ally. Having coordinators included in the cost of the venue was such a valuable bonus, and they truly made all the difference. Kalila and Ally were there with us every step of the way, staying on top of every detail for our 18-month engagement/wedding planning journey. They reached out to vendors, followed up on our behalf when needed, and offered spot-on recommendations that perfectly suited our vision and budget. Their guidance and expertise helped us make the best choices, and their input kept us calm and organized. On top of their professionalism, they were so down-to-earth and fun to work with, bringing energy and laughter to every planning session and making the entire experience even more memorable. One of the highlights was the collaborative online planning tool we had access to as part of booking Walden. It kept everything organized in one place, allowing us to easily stay in touch with our planners, track tasks, and manage finances and contracts. It was loaded with helpful resources, making planning a breeze. Walden provided us with much more than a beautiful venue. They gave us an incredible planning experience and an amazing team that felt like family by the time the wedding arrived. The entire wedding party and all the family members who were there the entire day of the wedding had nothing but amazing things to say too...they were all shocked at how much support we had throughout the entire day to the point where we did not have to lift a finger. And don't even get us started on the food and bar...we've never been complimented more in our lives. We were shocked at how insanely good the food and drinks were at our tasting party months before the wedding, but we were curious if it would live up to the hype on our actual wedding day where we had 216 guests. It might've been even better on our wedding day! Guests were raving about our food and drinks. We were told by nearly every guest that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding, bar none. We even had sober people come up to us and go on and on about how amazing even the mocktails were. The only thing we regret is being too excited and not having enough of an appetite to truly enjoy dinner as the bride and groom. But even so, our planning team made sure the servers packaged up our entrees so we could take them home a few days later when we came back to the venue to pick up our belongings. Honestly, there are a million other reasons why we'd recommend Walden for your wedding venue, but this is already getting to be too long of a review. Basically, if you’re looking for an all-inclusive venue where you’re genuinely taken care of every step of the way, we cannot recommend Walden highly enough! At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. “I cannot say enough about how AMAZING The Boylston Rooms was for my wedding!!! If you are looking for the perfect New England wedding in an old industrial building then THIS is the place for you. The best part is it’s a dedicated wedding venue. It is their entire job to throw the best weddings ever. They have a room FULL of decorations to choose from. They provide tableware, different colored table cloths and napkins, faux greenery and candles, drapery, arbors, card boxes, picture frames, etc. There are dedicated bridal and grooms suites with a lock code to keep your items safe. Fun settings around the building for photo sessions. Two beautiful rooms for the ceremony and reception. A beautiful patio for cocktail hour as long as weather permits. A dedicated catering kitchen attached to the reception room who will cater to all dietary needs!! I have celiac disease and they provided an entire gluten free buffet for my guests and EVERYTHING was delicious. Not to mention the staff!! Erin and Myles are the BEST!!! Seriously love them so much and could not rave enough about how fabulous they are and made sure my husband and I had the best day ever. You will not be disappointed if you get married here!”

“Got married at Simple Affair this June and everything was wonderful from start to finish! From the very first visit before securing the date, the staff was very informative and helpful. Maddy, our event coordinator, was so responsive and attentive to any and all questions we had throughout the planning process. The day of, the team that was working was very helpful as well and adjusted to even the smallest last minute changes we made to our timeline and the different adjustments we made to the flow of the reception. I could not recommend this venue enough! They have so many different options and can as involved and all inclusive or as hands off as you would like them to be, it’s really very personalizable and we couldn’t have picked a better option! Another great benefit is that if you are a DIY bride, they are so adaptable to your vision and can help assist in bringing your Pinterest board to life. The space of the venue really is so big it’s amazing how well you can decorate the space and still have room for a big dance floor. One specific thing we loved about this venue and a big reason we went with them was the possibility of bringing in your own food to better fit your vision. Having specific kinds of food was very important to us because we had a particular vision and we were able to achieve that here! “I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! “HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE! Everything is in house- catering, bar, table set up, etc. and it is so helpful to not have to worry about those things. They also let you bring in your own decorations or use the ones they have available. The staff is so amazing! Maddison was my venue coordinator who answered all of my questions and was excellent with assisting with the planning and making sure everything was set for our wedding day! I also had an event coordinator who spent the day with us to make sure everything was running smoothly. They did have two weddings that day so having an event coordinator who could speak with the other coordinator was a huge bonus. Also the food- to die for! It was soooo good and was definitely a favorite for my guests. Not to mention the views! Nazareth has so many spots inside and outside that make the most beautiful wedding photos! Overall, my wedding went off without a hitch and I am so glad that I had my wedding at Nazareth Hall!”

I felt so confident that everything was being handled, which allowed me to truly enjoy the journey leading up to the big day. On our wedding day, every detail came together beautifully, and our guests could not stop raving about how stunning the venue was, how amazing the food tasted, and how smoothly everything ran. The food was phenomenal — so many guests told us it was the best wedding meal they’d ever had. The included vendors Wedgewood works with were equally incredible. Our officiant delivered a heartfelt, memorable ceremony, and Cakes Amore made the most delicious carrot cake we’ve ever had — it was a huge hit with everyone! “Choosing the Red Barn for our wedding venue was the best decision we made!! The venue is absolutely gorgeous, the staff and on-site coordinators are absolutely incredible, and everything was so seamless from beginning to end, from the planning stages to the wedding day. Our venue coordinator Emily was a dream—she was so easy to work with and made the process a breeze: After we booked all our vendors ourselves and planned all our details, we met with Emily multiple times to talk about the day-of, and she was there on-site to make sure everything went smoothly (including setting up our decor, cuing the music and recessional/processional for our ceremony, keeping the timeline on track, and handling everything else that came up during the wedding day). Our day was absolutely perfect! She’s a superstar! For the venue itself, we can’t recommend it enough. The reception space is stunning, the foyer area for cocktail hour was perfect, and there’s a bridal suite for the bride/groom and bridal party. Staying at their sister property, the Stage House Inn gave us access to a shuttle service to and from the inn to the venue, which made the wedding day so easy (and the hotel is great!) We didn’t use the outdoor spaces as much because we got married in December, but we took some photos and the golf course and brick architecture were perfect backdrops. Overall, we really cannot recommend the Red Barn enough. From the absolutely amazing, friendly and welcoming staff (from the sales team to coordinators to catering and bar staff) to every single detail, we’re so happy with our wedding! If you’re considering booking the Red Barn, do it!”
