The first Common Man Restaurant opened in Ashland, NH in 1971. In the summer of ’72, we catered our first uncommon event. Previously home to two textile mills, the restored venue offers a rustically elegant setting for any occasion and a cozy Inn next door! The Sugar River Ballroom seats up to 150 people and boasts stunning views of the Sugar River through tall windows set into thick brick walls and exposed beams that are original to the historic mill building. The Woven Label Boardroom seats up to 45 people and features original brick walls, welcoming fireplace, and elegant floor to ceiling bookcases. Stage House Inn is a stately and elegant wedding venue. The property offers 20 unique guest rooms, private function spaces, and Dufour, an on-site award-winning restaurant and bar. The venue offers plenty of historical charm and Maine-style hospitality. The Stage House Inn specializes in hosting private events. These include micro weddings (for up to 70 guests), showers, corporate events, holiday parties, baptism celebrations, funeral receptions, celebrations of life, and other events for 25-150 guests. Since the late 1700s, the structure that now houses Stage House Inn and Dufour has served many purposes. From a private residence, it soon became a stagecoach stop where visitors would stop to eat and lodge at Frost Tavern. Following that, it was Paul’s Hotel, and eventually also served as a boarding house. Then, for nearly 70 years it was a convent run by the Sisters of St. Joseph Order. It was also a christian school.
