Oversized windows bring natural light to the main gallery rooms, which boast 24-foot ceilings, wonderful woodwork, and exposed granite walls lined with rotating art exhibits. Your ceremony can be held in the sweet, private courtyard. This quaint, romantic space has a “secret garden” feel, sheltered from the street by high, vine-covered red brick walls. Please note wheelchair access is available only on the main floor. A/V equipment is available but limited. The Athenaeum is available for viewing during gallery hours or by appointment. In 1970, we acquired the red brick Quaker House, Carriage House and garden at 2121 Decatur Place NW. Built in the 1920s and also on the National Register, these buildings today house a number of nonprofit organizations and small businesses as well as additional event spaces. With multiple interior spaces and gardens, we can accommodate events of various sizes and layouts, from 2 to 300. We host individuals, non-profit organizations, and for-profit entities. The Tschiffely-Kent property has been a landmark along Darnestown Road since 1900. The stately mansion was built by Frederick Tschiffely, and later sold to Otis Beall Kent in 1942. The elegant property now belongs to the City of Gaithersburg, and is an ideal venue for weddings, receptions, social functions and business meetings.
