How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married at Woodsgate at the Stroudsmoor last weekend and to say it was perfect would still be an understatement. All but two of our vendors were internally through the venue and they took care of everything! From food to cake to makeup and hair to decorations, the Stroudsmoor team did a fantastic job putting together such a magical day for my husband and I. Our closest guests and us stayed for the weekend and enjoyed their gorgeous rooms with woodsy views and a delicious breakfast buffet for both mornings. Throughout the weekend, the staff were friendly and personable and were a part of some of our best memories from the weekend. It’s a week later and our guests still have not stopped raving about the food and the incredible service. The price was reasonable and worth every penny! We are extremely happy we made the choice to sign with the Stroudsmoor and look forward to staying here in the future and even attending more weddings here in the future! “We just had our wedding at Deity in April 2024 and couldn’t be happier with how our special day went. The planning process: After we toured the venue, we knew Deity was special. The pricing was very transparent and super reasonable considering everything that’s included – the venue (lounge, loft, and basement), day-of coordinator, food, 50 bar credit pp, basic décor package, and DJ. The space is gorgeous and so unique, unlike any other venue we’ve attended as guests or toured. Each floor has a purpose and accompanying vibe to match – the bridal suite is relaxing and picturesque (highly recommend adding this to your day for an added cost), the cocktail lounge is dreamy, the ceremony loft (and dinner space) is bright yet cozy, and the basement dance floor is funky and fun. Because the venue was already beautifully designed and all inclusive, the only things we needed to provide for the ceremony/reception were signage (welcome, table arrangements, his/her drinks), minimal décor/flowers (we hired a florist for the ceremony arch and did bud vases for the tables and they turned out beautiful), and dessert. Some (including me) may be nervous about all-inclusive venues, however Deity was so accommodating to the little ways in which we wanted to make our wedding unique, such as incorporating cultural outfit changes into the schedule to setting up a late-night instant noodle bar. Finally, Anna, the coordinator included with the venue, was a godsend. She made the whole wedding planning process so much easier, patiently answered all my random questions, and provided guidance where needed. The day of: Our family and friends were blown away by the bridal suite. We were relaxed the whole morning while getting ready and got some beautiful photos to start off the day. Once the day started rolling, Anna and the whole Deity team were on top of everything. They made sure everyone was on schedule but also were flexible with last minute changes, even making sure my husband and I had private moments to ourselves. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had so many guests compliment the cocktail hour bites and dinner service, even our very picky grandma said it was the best salmon she’s ever had. The drinks were flowing and we had guests commenting on how drink service on the dance floor was genius – everyone could continue dancing and no one was ever waiting with an empty glass. Also, my husband and I were initially nervous about an in-house DJ because we are very picky with music but DJ BenHaMeen was amazing, listened to our wants and needs, and kept the dancefloor lively (our photographer even complimented the music!). All in all, we cannot recommend Deity enough. Our guests are still asking if we can have a wedding there every year (we wish!).”

At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “From the second we saw the venue in person and met with the Event Manager, Myles, we knew we found the perfect venue. The venue was beautiful from the start but the added touches of drapery, being able to select the right arch from their numerous options and countless other decor items really allowed us to bring our vision to life. The event spaces of the ceremony room, courtyard for cocktail hour and reception room comfortably fit our 94 guests. We were also very appreciative of not only having a spacious bridal suite to get ready in but also a grooms suite, as both came in handy. In briefly working with the Owner and Event Manager, Erin, we were introduced to the transportation option of using the venue's trolley service, which we were so thrilled we went with as our guests greatly enjoyed the special ride. And as mentioned, we knew The Boylston Rooms was the right venue for us after we met with Myles. Working with Myles was fun, effortless and very thorough. “Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“From the moment we stepped foot at The Wheeler House, we knew this was where we wanted to get married. There's something to offer every couple, from the historic house with beautiful wrap-around porches and a pool table for the groomsmen, to the outdoor ceremony space with newly installed turf and tall trees, to the breathtaking barn with high rafters and draping. It's a common misconception that you sacrifice quality with an all inclusive option but that couldn't be farther from the truth with The Wheeler House. We will be recommending this venue along with our family & friends over and over again. It ended up being a surprisingly budget friendly option as well - although the price for food is higher than most places, the fact that the restaurant provided everything needed for the lunch including custom menus, the cake, and all of the linens/chairs/tables/table numbers/etc. meant that the total price ended up being a great value.”

“This venue is beautiful!! We got married here in April (Mountainside ceremony, Colorado room cocktail hour and Albert’s lodge reception). It was the perfect Colorado backdrop for our out of town guests. The venue provides the chairs for ceremony, shuttle services between the ceremony and reception, and kept the fireplaces running throughout the night but the external vendors take care of pretty much everything else. Just remember that because of preferred/required vendors everything adds up quickly! We did have a great experience with all of the recommended and required vendors. The one thing I would have changed about the venue is if they could have opened the Colorado room wall/doors. It was 80 degrees but they don’t open them until after May 1.”
