How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“This was literally a dream! Firstly, the owner truly was so kind to us from the beginning and super responsive! They truly went above and beyond and I noticed extra decor at the wedding including on our sweetheart table (I didn’t know a sweet heart table could make me feel like a literal queen), which was really sweet and perfect! Grayson was so accommodating and the last minute added roses for my memorial chair was really special! My bridesmaids also loved Jenny and Maddy was phenomenal! Most importantly EVERYONE loved Grace (our event planner)! Even with the rain she made me feel calm and that everything was going to be perfect and it was! She fit right in with our crew and by the end of it felt like part of the family. She ensured everything went smoothly and it did, even with all the weddings she had that weekend. Everything was super organized! My guests LOVED the food, I mean they were truly raving about all the appetizers, the main course etc, everything was delicious-Mike and I didn’t eat until we got back to our suite because we were having a blast out on the dance floor! Premium Entertainment was a great recommendation, we loved them! Everyone texted us and said how much fun they had, that it was the best food they had and that it was the most fun they had at a wedding, ever! I had one guest tell me it was the safest wedding they ever went too, assuming because we had transportation as well-we went with Palmeri Transportation. The bartenders knew all of the guests drinks every time they went up there. Also, someone customized me a raspberry lemonade vodka, it was the most delicious drink I’ve ever had! The cooks, wait staff etc., truly they have the best all around! The bridal studio made us all look fabulous. I would recommend them to everybody! Lastly, Happy hour got us in for our rehearsal late lunch/early dinner last minute so thank you to Grace for recommending them! They were also amazing! We appreciate them more than you know! “First off, the wedding coordinator MELISSA at The Milestone Denton is godsend and 10000% deserves a huge raise and fat bonus for the amount of work she does and is so helpful in the planning process. She was very honest and upfront during the entire planning process. I am very Type A and for once in my life it was nice to have someone else in charge and I fully trusted her. She even provides recommendations when you don’t know what you want and will be honest with pricing. If it weren’t for Melissa, I don’t know how the wedding would have gone and I would have been so stressed during the planning process. She is so awesome that she goes out of her way to do things for you (be nice everyone!) and is very responsive. She also helped with the reception layout with my divorced parents who do not get along with other family members and it was a success. MELISSA IS THE BEST!! The venue - BEAUTIFUL. We had our ceremony indoors which was nice because our guests were able to take pictures at the gabezo in the back during cocktail hour. If you do your ceremony outside at the gazebo, the guests won’t be able to have their little photoshoots. The entire venue is gorgeous and every corner is a photo-op. It’s a great venue if you have 150 or less people. The big windows everywhere were just so beautiful. The bridal suite is HUGE and beautiful and the grooms suite is upstairs and has a tv and pool table. Perfect for the boys! The food, bar and DJ - everything was great and explained throughly by Melissa so expectations were set and made based on what tier and package you purchased I did not use the Walter Weddings photographer, florists or cake designer so I can’t speak to that. One downfall was on the day of the wedding with Melissa’s day of partner, Allison. She is super sweet and helped steam my bridal gown and Matron of Honor’s dress, which I’m so appreciative of. But I guess she didn’t communicate well to the staff on what needed to be done that day because there were several mishaps that shouldn’t have happened. The ceremony room was incomplete and she didn’t give me the chance to see how the front tables looked. I purchased 100 of bouquet flowers and ribbons that were supposed to be tied to each seat which I was told could be done since it was a simple task to tie 3 flowers and a bow on each aisle chair. This was not done so that small detail from my ceremony room seem bland and a waste of money. The front tables weren’t done how I wanted and it was chaotic having presents with our guestbook and our wedding sign. We wanted to utilize the buffet type table in the front room for presents so it’s not so cluttered when you walk in. Also, a lot of my items were not used for cocktail hour. After the wedding, I noticed the box was opened but she did not use what I purchase and the display for cocktail hour looked like a “backyard bbq” according to my guests. I was so disappointed because I had custom items and “backyard bbq” did not fit the vibe of “old Hollywood glam” of the wedding. Other than the day of mishaps, I highly recommend doing your wedding at Milestone Mansion Denton and having Melissa as your coordinator. GIVE HER A HUGE RAISE, Walter Weddings!!! She’s top notch and deserves it!”

“Our wedding at Deity Brooklyn in June 2024 was absolutely magical! I would 100% recommend Deity to anyone looking for a unique, all-inclusive wedding venue in NYC. From the up-front pricing information, to the first tour with Caio, to securing our date, coming in for a menu tasting and having our planning meeting with Anna and Kat - every step of the way reinforced my confidence that choosing Deity as our wedding venue was the right choice! The space is a beautiful historic building that's been converted to a four story (plus rooftop!) party venue. I loved that Deity provides all the dinnerware, linens and candles, it really limited the decisions we had to make so we could focus on personal touches for our day. We wanted our wedding to feel like an amazing house party, which Deity perfectly delivered. Anna was an incredible coordinator, so on top of everything and thoughtful. The day-of team ran everything so smoothly - I honestly wasn't stressed for a moment, because everyone was organized, calm and clearly loves what they do. “Our wedding day & the planning leading up to it was absolutely perfect and we can't thank the Chicago Winery staff (especially our event manager Hulda!) enough for making our wedding come to life exactly as we dreamed it. The venue is gorgeous, our guests raved about the food/appetizers/cocktails/etc. and it is truly a night we will never forget. Being able to go outside to the cocktail hour terrace was also a huge plus to get people moving around and seeing new parts of the venue while the Chicago Winery staff transformed the whole space from ceremony to reception. We worked with Amy right after booking the space and she was so helpful in being a resource for us to bounce questions off of as we began planning. We utilized a lot of the preferred vendors (florist, DJ, etc.) that Chicago Winery recommended and they did not disappoint. Our event manager, Hulda, was soooooo helpful throughout the last 6 months of preparations and as our day-of manager - we could not have done it without her. “The Olio is a beautiful space that is perfect for the couple that wants to customize their wedding and/or reception space. My husband and I were able to have an on-site wedding and reception with approximately 190 guests. The space never felt too cramped. Our vendors were accommodated well. We were able to bring in the caterers that reflected our heritage. Because the Olio is a blank slate, we were able to create a decor plan that was complimented by Olio's uplights. For our ceremony, we had gold lights. For our ceremony, we had blue and purple uplights that worked perfectly with our decor and signified the change between the ceremony and reception. Sarah is an amazing owner. She responds quickly and gives feedback that helps optimize the space. We originally wanted our DJ, bar, and lounge area in different parts of the space. Sarah made suggestions, which she made clear that we understood that they were not mandatory. We took her suggestions and it made the space work perfectly. Sarah has an eye for detail, but also a skill for working with people. Her staff were equally as wonderful. Becca, Tiesha, and Ivy made our rehearsal and wedding day run smoothly. Founded in 1814, The West Boylston Company was a large textile manufacturer in West Boylston, MA. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. “I cannot say enough about how AMAZING The Boylston Rooms was for my wedding!!! If you are looking for the perfect New England wedding in an old industrial building then THIS is the place for you. The best part is it’s a dedicated wedding venue. It is their entire job to throw the best weddings ever. They have a room FULL of decorations to choose from. They provide tableware, different colored table cloths and napkins, faux greenery and candles, drapery, arbors, card boxes, picture frames, etc. There are dedicated bridal and grooms suites with a lock code to keep your items safe. Fun settings around the building for photo sessions. Two beautiful rooms for the ceremony and reception. A beautiful patio for cocktail hour as long as weather permits. A dedicated catering kitchen attached to the reception room who will cater to all dietary needs!! I have celiac disease and they provided an entire gluten free buffet for my guests and EVERYTHING was delicious. Not to mention the staff!! Erin and Myles are the BEST!!! Seriously love them so much and could not rave enough about how fabulous they are and made sure my husband and I had the best day ever. You will not be disappointed if you get married here!”

“We absolutely loved our wedding at The Sanctuary! We initially worked with Amelia and then with Arthur and Kat towards the end of our planning process. Every contact at The Sanctuary was very responsive and accommodating. We loved the space, especially having multiple different areas for guests to enjoy (the chapel for dancing/desserts, the tent for dinner/conversation, and the outdoor patio for smores!) and the beautiful NYC skyline in the background. The bridal suite where we all got ready was spacious and comfortable. I was a little nervous about the temperature in the tent during a November wedding, but it was very comfortable! “The Oviatt Penthouse was the first and only venue we toured. It was love at first sight. We wanted an Old Hollywood/jazz nightclub vibe and the venue just fit the bill. The interior is fully furnished and it will transport you back in time to an Art Deco era. Very minimal wedding decorations are needed. Outside, the view of DTLA day or night will take your guest’s breath away. Once contract was signed, the planning process was easy peasy. They have a helpful Preferred vendor list so we were able to book a great caterer and day of coordinator right away. The Oviatt planning team, Lindsey and Cami, were so kind and patient with my multiple questions. Day of the wedding, the Oviatt staff were a super hero team. They were in constant communication with each other and my wedding coordinator to run things smoothly. Also very sweet and friendly. Shoutout to valet, security, and bartender! 3 All in all, our wedding was a magical day thanks to the Oviatt’s wonderful atmosphere. After it was all over, I received multiple messages from guests raving about my wedding. Some told me it was one of the best and most unique wedding experiences they have ever attended. So if you want an affordable venue with historical character, I highly recommend booking The Oviatt Penthouse for your wedding.”

“Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Not only was Christine present the day of, but the staff was also on their A game all night long. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and kind, we felt like royalty. We both highly recommend this venue and if you do, definitely get the Schnitzel, Prost! The only recommendation to the venue would be to update their beverage packages to include seltzers such as High noons or White claws. “Flagstaff House was incredible! They were such a great venue. Annie was our event planner, and she was perfect - professional, friendly, and so helpful helping everything run smoothly day of. The venue itself was beautiful and did a great job helping us plan for any weather scenario. The food was INCREDIBLE - each of the dishes were delicious and the cake was just as beautiful as it was delicious. It ended up being a surprisingly budget friendly option as well - although the price for food is higher than most places, the fact that the restaurant provided everything needed for the lunch including custom menus, the cake, and all of the linens/chairs/tables/table numbers/etc. meant that the total price ended up being a great value.”

Our Farm sits on 54-Acres in Bucks County. Our Seed Barn was originally built back in the 1820's. Our Seed Barn was restored in the Summer of 2016 & seats 160-200 people. “I recently had the honor of planning, coordinating, and doing hair and makeup for a styled wedding photoshoot at The Farm Bakery & Events, and let me just say… this venue is incredible. I worked directly with Becca and Alyssa, who were SO kind, friendly, and welcoming from the start. They truly went above and beyond to make sure every single detail was thought out, beautifully executed, and aligned with the vision!!! I sent over a mood board and gave them full creative freedom to showcase their talents and WOW!!!! SO FREAKING TALENTED!! The florals were exactly what I had envisioned (and somehow even better), the cake was hands-down the most stunning I’ve ever seen, and the venue itself was spotless, bright, and the perfect space for a large group of vendors to come together, create, and feel at home. As a bridal hair and makeup artist, I’ve worked many weddings at The Farm Bakery and Events and can honestly say every one of my brides has had nothing but amazing things to say. From the moment I walk in to start setting up in the bridal suite (prior to the bride party’s arrival), a team member always comes in to introduce themselves and ask if we need anything. Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.
