How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“First off, the wedding coordinator MELISSA at The Milestone Denton is godsend and 10000% deserves a huge raise and fat bonus for the amount of work she does and is so helpful in the planning process. She was very honest and upfront during the entire planning process. I am very Type A and for once in my life it was nice to have someone else in charge and I fully trusted her. She even provides recommendations when you don’t know what you want and will be honest with pricing. If it weren’t for Melissa, I don’t know how the wedding would have gone and I would have been so stressed during the planning process. She is so awesome that she goes out of her way to do things for you (be nice everyone!) and is very responsive. She also helped with the reception layout with my divorced parents who do not get along with other family members and it was a success. MELISSA IS THE BEST!! The venue - BEAUTIFUL. We had our ceremony indoors which was nice because our guests were able to take pictures at the gabezo in the back during cocktail hour. If you do your ceremony outside at the gazebo, the guests won’t be able to have their little photoshoots. The entire venue is gorgeous and every corner is a photo-op. It’s a great venue if you have 150 or less people. The big windows everywhere were just so beautiful. The bridal suite is HUGE and beautiful and the grooms suite is upstairs and has a tv and pool table. Perfect for the boys! The food, bar and DJ - everything was great and explained throughly by Melissa so expectations were set and made based on what tier and package you purchased I did not use the Walter Weddings photographer, florists or cake designer so I can’t speak to that. One downfall was on the day of the wedding with Melissa’s day of partner, Allison. She is super sweet and helped steam my bridal gown and Matron of Honor’s dress, which I’m so appreciative of. But I guess she didn’t communicate well to the staff on what needed to be done that day because there were several mishaps that shouldn’t have happened. The ceremony room was incomplete and she didn’t give me the chance to see how the front tables looked. I purchased 100 of bouquet flowers and ribbons that were supposed to be tied to each seat which I was told could be done since it was a simple task to tie 3 flowers and a bow on each aisle chair. This was not done so that small detail from my ceremony room seem bland and a waste of money. The front tables weren’t done how I wanted and it was chaotic having presents with our guestbook and our wedding sign. We wanted to utilize the buffet type table in the front room for presents so it’s not so cluttered when you walk in. Also, a lot of my items were not used for cocktail hour. After the wedding, I noticed the box was opened but she did not use what I purchase and the display for cocktail hour looked like a “backyard bbq” according to my guests. I was so disappointed because I had custom items and “backyard bbq” did not fit the vibe of “old Hollywood glam” of the wedding. Other than the day of mishaps, I highly recommend doing your wedding at Milestone Mansion Denton and having Melissa as your coordinator. GIVE HER A HUGE RAISE, Walter Weddings!!! She’s top notch and deserves it!”

“I went to the open house last year and fell in love with the Venue at First sight. The grass, pecan trees, citrus trees, and then 40,000 lights sold the deal. We got married on 5/25/24, with almost all guests flying in. Every guest commented on how romantic the venue was. Stephanie and Ben were the best; they were both very professional and provided their expertise when needed. I can't forget how the ceremony went perfectly due to the support and always encouraging staff, especially Ben. Ensemble Catering is a part of the venue, and being that I have mostly foodie friends, everyone thought the food was delicious. The late-night Fries and Cookie Wall were discussed for the next few days when guests called to say how much they enjoyed the evening. Another consideration in my 5-star review is that the vendors in the package and on their website were just as great to work with. My husband and I are so grateful to everyone who worked that day and all the others who helped plan and make it the best day of our lives. We toured Walden in June 2024 and we couldn't help but compare every other venue we looked at to Walden because Walden was - simply put - the BEST! Even before we officially signed with Walden, we felt very taken care of by Maria who gave us our tour and she assured us we'd feel that way with our planners and day-of coordinators, which she was spot on about! We were super impressed by the physical space (the tall ceilings! brick walls! gorgeous ceremony and getting ready space!) and by the bartender-to-guest ratio (highly recommend asking about this at venues if you have a lively guest list like we did!), but our Walden planners are what made our day SO special and truly stress-free. Krystle and Katie Rose (our wedding planners) were thoughtful, professional, encouraging, creative and fun throughout the entire process. I remember them saying "we like to have our couples in a bubble on the day of" meaning they would be around to coordinate everything from steaming dresses, to making sure the bus knew where to park, to ensuring all of us ate, and more! Krystle and Katie Rose provided helpful deadlines, documents (like a "details" check list) and vendor recommendations to us throughout the planning process, and I appreciated their honesty when it came to vendors we were inquiring about. They truly are experts in their craft and were such a joy to work with. I don't think I ever waited more than 24 hours for a response from either of them. Day of, there were several coordinators at all times, so we felt very taken care of. The food and drinks were out of this world. We got so many compliments from guests about the appetizers, the flow of dinner, and the kind bartenders. Another perk of Walden is that it hosts an incredible, unique tasting for couples. Walden hosts several couples and their guests at the same time, so you can see what the space looks like when it's full, you can see how accommodating the catering and bar staff are, and you can sample the delicious food and drinks. The location can't be beat, especially for guests staying downtown and if you want to take photos in the city with your wedding party. They are total pros, and also just lovely people. “Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Not only was Christine present the day of, but the staff was also on their A game all night long. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and kind, we felt like royalty. We both highly recommend this venue and if you do, definitely get the Schnitzel, Prost! The only recommendation to the venue would be to update their beverage packages to include seltzers such as High noons or White claws. “Got married at Simple Affair this June and everything was wonderful from start to finish! From the very first visit before securing the date, the staff was very informative and helpful. Maddy, our event coordinator, was so responsive and attentive to any and all questions we had throughout the planning process. The day of, the team that was working was very helpful as well and adjusted to even the smallest last minute changes we made to our timeline and the different adjustments we made to the flow of the reception. I could not recommend this venue enough! They have so many different options and can as involved and all inclusive or as hands off as you would like them to be, it’s really very personalizable and we couldn’t have picked a better option! Another great benefit is that if you are a DIY bride, they are so adaptable to your vision and can help assist in bringing your Pinterest board to life. The space of the venue really is so big it’s amazing how well you can decorate the space and still have room for a big dance floor. One specific thing we loved about this venue and a big reason we went with them was the possibility of bringing in your own food to better fit your vision. Having specific kinds of food was very important to us because we had a particular vision and we were able to achieve that here! “I cannot say enough fabulous things about Itasca country club & its staff. We were at our wits end searching for venues and then decided let’s check out the country club. We were amazed by how beautiful the space was both inside and outside. It was a no brainer from there. We worked with Genny as our coordinator and she helped keep things organized and on track but was equally a calming presence. She took over at the midway point as we had a different point of contact and she did so with grace. Our meeting with her 2 weeks out helped us feel like she had everything under control and alleviated our stress. The wedding day was beautiful, so many places to take photos outdoors! Guests were raving about the food & we can honestly say the crab cakes were the best we’ve ever had. Having heard horror stories about the bride and groom not even being able to eat on their wedding day, Genny and team served us our full meal instantly ensuring we were well fed and ready to hit the dance floor.
