How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“What is there to say! Five stars is simply not enough! Well for starters we just had our wedding at the Terraview on 10.19.24 and it was absolutely INCREDIBLE! There are simply not enough words to describe this venue and this entire atmosphere as well as planning process. Our coordinator was Barbara and she was fantastic. The entire year leading up to our wedding. There was nothing but amazing communication and help at every turn. They make the planning process for your event or wedding so easy and we were so grateful since we honestly had no idea where to begin. Everything was amazing on the day of and was perfect to beginning to end. There is not a thing that we would have changed about our wedding. From the decorations to the florals to the food, there was no detail left out. If you are looking for a truly unique and beautiful wedding or event space, I highly recommend this venue. The details of our day were so intimate and so carefully thought out by the entire team that we had working with us. We worked with the floral department and the bakery and the kitchen to create an amazing day. The transparency is second to none and we are forever grateful. They also have an on-site beauty studio where your hair makeup can get done and they were also fantastic to work with! Gina and her girls are truly talented and made my entire bridal party look stunning. My day of bridal attendant was Belkis and she is absolutely amazing. There was not one thing that we had questions on that she could not handle. She made sure that all the girls were eating. She made sure that I as the bride ate and was hydrated. She made everybody make sure that their dresses were perfect and during the getting ready portion, she was there for us 110% of the time helping with photos. Making sure that every detail on my dress was perfect. There are not enough words for her and I am profoundly grateful. After the ceremony, she insured that we had a drink in our hands and made sure that we were eating during our reception. She made sure that we were eating and brought us water on the dance floor and drinks on the dance floor and was just always at our side ready to help us. She is definitely an asset to this venue in so many ways. It is also close to the Scranton airport if you have guest coming from farther away. They have different venues on site (different sizes and styles) and it’s one event per day at each so you aren’t dealing with other parties. It is absolutely gorgeous. The ceremony sites are outdoors with gorgeous views and the reception rooms are beautiful. It is a family business and you do truly feel like family while working with them. I cannot say enough great things! It’s close to many hotels so getting blocks wasn’t an issue. You also get some rooms on site. You also get a wedding coordinator and a day or person who is well aware of you needs and wants! Our day was absolutely perfect beginning to end! They make it so easy to plan and stress free! Food was absolutely amazing and my guests have been raving since! I had a cocktail reception which I highly recommend exploring! They have their own full bakery so all desserts were also made by them! We are truly grateful for the entire team at the Stroudsmoor, who made our wedding day unforgettable and a day that our guests will talk about forever. “We worked with Melissa as our wedding planner and honestly, she was amazing. From the beginning, she was super attentive, supportive, and always happy to help with anything we needed. It really felt like she was in our corner the whole time, which made the whole planning process way less stressful. On the wedding day, she was there to answer any questions and keep things running smoothly. I could tell she was a little stressed, however she still showed up for us. She stayed calm, helpful, and made sure everything went as planned. If I had one small complaint, it’s that we didn’t get the top of our cake saved—we were hoping to freeze it for our anniversary. Not a huge deal, but it would’ve been a nice touch. Overall though, Melissa was awesome and we’re so grateful for everything she did. They were very organized, had great recommendations for the handful of external vendors we used, and were professional throughout our interaction. The space worked great for our 80 person wedding. There was plenty of space for our guests and we heard raving reviews about the food & cocktails. Additionally, with my mother being in a wheelchair, they were extremely accommodating and had the necessary facilities to help her navigate the event without any issues. “My wife and I could not express enough how great our entire wedding experience was with Venue at the Grove. Here are a few down to earth notes to take away. The planning process was incredibly simple. With all the moving parts weddings encompass, the staff were very flexible and accommodating to what we wanted to make our day as special as it was. The setting for the ceremony and reception felt like we were in another world. Again, the planning for how we wanted our items set up were seamless with the staff's help. They made sure all the details we wanted were accommodated for. Lastly, but certainly very important and helpful was the cleanup for the end of the night. Staff were on point with making sure we had all our belongings and items needed prior to departing the venue. We had no worries with making sure everything was cleaned up and accounted for. “10/10, The Lake House Inn was our best choice! The outdoor wedding location was enchanted with the indefeasible sunset and the breeze blowing off of the water. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “Our wedding at The Boylston Rooms was everything we hoped for. We were looking for something that felt less like a traditional banquet hall and more like an intimate, elevated dinner party, and the space was absolutely perfect. The industrial architecture, exposed brick, and large windows create a beautiful backdrop that doesn't need much decoration to feel special. The planning process was smooth from beginning to end. Communication was clear, and the team was organized, responsive, and easy to work with throughout the entire process. On the wedding day, everything ran seamlessly. We never felt like we had to worry about logistics because the staff had everything under control. If there was a problem - I had know idea it was happening!! A special thank you to Myles, who was phenomenal. He was calm, professional, incredibly attentive, and somehow always one step ahead. He made us feel completely taken care of and played a huge role in making the day feel effortless. The food was excellent, our guests are still talking about it, and the service throughout the evening was outstanding. We received so many compliments on both the venue itself and the overall experience. “The Wheeler House made my dream wedding come true! We just got married there this October and from the moment I finalized a date with them (which they book up QUICK) to the moment I walked down the aisle, they were 100% helpful, professional, friendly and on point! I worked mainly with Laiken throughout the process and then my day of coordinator, Emma, who was fantastic! I never knew how stressful planning a wedding would be, but it was worth every moment once the big day finally arrived. It was nice working with the preferred vendors that The Wheeler House uses, they all work together so well and it takes the stress out of planning. I live out of state so sadly I wasn't able to make it to one of their open houses, but every vendor I spoke to over the phone was very helpful and answered any questions that I had. You will not be disappointed if you choose The Wheeler House for your wedding day, it is an absolutely beautiful venue. The outdoor space for the ceremony is elegant and so pretty. The barn is gorgeous inside with a huge chandelier and fireplace. It's so amazing to see everything bare bones and then how it completely transforms once all the flowers, decor, food, people and music make everything come alive. The actual Wheeler House itself is the perfect backdrop for all the pictures, which really ties it all in. Our families also stayed in the cottages just down the road from the venue and it was the perfect touch! The cottages were so beautiful inside. Its perfect for families or the wedding parties to sleep and get ready in. We were happy we stayed there, it came in handy that they were so close. All my guests had so much fun, I received so many compliments on how perfect everything was and that it was one of the most beautiful weddings they've ever been too! I couldn't be happier or more pleased with our experience!! “My partner and I’s venue search ended the second we ascended in the historical elevator to the penthouse of the James Oviatt Building. The Oviatt venue is a multifaceted piece of beautiful Art Deco history that lends itself well to whatever event you are trying to throw. In our case, they hosted our wedding. We will forever be grateful for their immense care and kindness leading up to, on, and after the big day. We met the President Gabe first, who had his own wedding at this venue before he managed it. He made us feel right at home and answered every question we could muster. Our one hour showing turned into a two and a half hour conversation where his care and passion for the venue and his clients became very clear. We felt a connection right away. He shared a wealth of great advise and reassurances and gave us an impeccable pool of preferred vendors. We were sold in minutes. Every event is different, but my partner and I did not feel the space needed any help to become beautiful. The architectural art of the space is breathtaking and unique from the valet area outside of the Cicada Club all the way to the terrace. We saved a fortune on a florist. Who needs one when everything is already so classy? Speaking of class, the Director of Events Lindsey took point on execution and was our resource during the planning process. I as an individual am not the most communicative. I needed someone with that attention to detail and she delivered. After giving her all the venue required specifications (seating chart, insurances, etc,) two conversations was all it took for her to equip the venue with everything it needed and make it gorgeous. It seemed effortless for her. Not a spec of dust or dirt to be seen and the staff was respectful, efficient, and welcoming. I had a panic attack because I forgot to ask them for valet and she was able to get her people on it without issue the same week as the wedding. (Don’t be like me, but that is a perfect example of how on top of it they are.) They had EVERYTHING we could have wanted for a downtown metropolitan wedding and then some. If they didn’t have it? They knew exactly where to refer you. One of my personal favorite features was their completely customizable LED lighting strips on the hedges that lined either side of the rooftop. We had them a bright warm light for dinner and then a cycle of rainbow colors for dancing. They are inclusive and welcoming to any and all who come to visit. We felt valued, respected, and well cared for. It truly was the best day of our lives and we owe it all to The Oviatt. I implore to to reach out to them. I can say with certainty that you won’t be disappointed and whatever it is you are planning will become a memorable experience unlike any other.”

Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. “HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE! Everything is in house- catering, bar, table set up, etc. and it is so helpful to not have to worry about those things. They also let you bring in your own decorations or use the ones they have available. The staff is so amazing! Maddison was my venue coordinator who answered all of my questions and was excellent with assisting with the planning and making sure everything was set for our wedding day! I also had an event coordinator who spent the day with us to make sure everything was running smoothly. They did have two weddings that day so having an event coordinator who could speak with the other coordinator was a huge bonus. Also the food- to die for! It was soooo good and was definitely a favorite for my guests. Not to mention the views! Nazareth has so many spots inside and outside that make the most beautiful wedding photos! Overall, my wedding went off without a hitch and I am so glad that I had my wedding at Nazareth Hall!”

“We couldn't be more pleased with our wedding at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake! This venue is part of the CT Wedding Group and they are truly experts at what they do! Aesthetically, the venue is GORGEOUS. We loved the fact that we could have the best of both worlds--both inside and outside--for our wedding day. It was perfect! The outdoor ceremony space is intimate and romantic with a canopy of trees, garden lights, and a gazebo. The indoor reception area is just as intimate and has beautiful windows overlooking the lake. There are many different ways you can add on decor to make the inside as "dolled up" as you want. We also got ready for the day on the property at the Lake Cottage. Having been to multiple weddings where the wedding party had to get shuffled from one place to the next, we knew how much simpler and less stressful things would be if we could eliminate all of that. The Cottage is super cute and had everything we needed! Choosing a wedding venue was challenging, but there were a few things that set The Pavilion apart from the others. First, the food. From the beginning, we came to understand that the CT Wedding Group is very "food forward." They pride themselves on their high-quality food, presentation, and the fact that couples don't have to pick and choose options to save money--so much is just included. And simply put: the food was INCREDIBLE. The 10 passed hors d'oeuvres were delicious. We added on "The Farm Stand" which was the most elaborate charcuterie board anyone has ever seen. The dinner entrees were out of this world and dessert was divine. Every guest continues to rave to us about the food! It did not disappoint! Another thing that set apart this venue was the team of people. Once we signed the contract, we were on board with the CT Wedding Group and part of their little family. This group of people took such good care of us throughout the whole planning process! People ask if we hired a coordinator, and it was hard to answer because we had a whole TEAM of coordinators. They kept us on a schedule, made sure we were checking off things on our to-do list, hosting Zoom meetings, and were available to talk whenever we needed. Since our emails/texts went to an entire group of people, it meant we had rapid responses. Also, we never felt like any question was too small, nor any request too big. They were so kind to us and we felt extremely well cared for. Last but not least, the CT Wedding Group provides a day-of coordinator, which was amazing. By the time the day of your wedding rolls around, you will be done with decision making. All you want is to show up and have everyone tell you what to do! Our coordinator, Dimitri, was great. We knew we were in good hands and he made sure the day ran so smoothly. He also made sure we had exactly what we needed at every point in the day/night. We had no stress on our wedding day because of this! All in all, we HIGHLY recommend this venue. If not this venue, then any of the other CT Wedding Group properties. Our guests loved our wedding and so did we. You will have the BEST day!”

“We had our wedding at the Inn at Leola & it was amazing! I can't say enough about our wedding coordinator, Gianna. She was so sweet, attentive, communicative & went out of her way to make our wedding perfect. The grounds are beautiful & they made beautiful backdrops for our photos. Tracy was also awesome to work with & did an incredible job with our flowers & they were stunning. The food at the wedding was delicious & everyone was raving about it. The pastry chef was also so accommodating & she made me the wedding cake of my dreams. The service at the reception was also classy & top notch. We also loved our suite by the pool. Everything was perfect & we highly recommend Inn at Leola for the food, the grounds & most importantly the service provided by Gianna & Tracy.”
