How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“It all started in October 2022 when Michael and I bought a house in the area. We were driving around to explore and stubbled upon Ridgecrest. I had always wanted to get married on the side of a cliff. I said wouldn't it be so cool to get married here? Right in our town? Fast forward to seeing an ad for Stroudsmoor wedding expo. I wasn't even engaged and I booked us two tickets. It was just one day before the expo, when Michael proposed. I only had one venue in mind. Ridgecrest. When I would tell people where I was getting married at, I will never forget what everyone said; "it is so pretty there and the staff take such great care of you". And oh my gosh, YES do they ever take care of you! I can have panic attacks but the staff kept me focused. I was well care for with patience and love. I learned new techniques to distract me from anxiety that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you Belkis, Corinne, Kaylie, Becca, Corinne's sister and Carolyn. You ladies kept me together. At the end of wedding night, I have received nothing but positive compliments of how stunning my wedding was. It was the best wedding some guests had attended. The most beautiful. The happiest. Room was filled with love and everyone could feel it. Guests told me the food was great. So much food. So many IPA choices. Appetizers were great. Band was awesome. Venue stunning. Views of the valley gorgeous. Live painter was amazing. Hair and make-up made my girls into bombshells. A luxury deluxe wedding. I went all out for this wedding. Deciding to book it for March and hoping for snow. And sure enough, during my vows I got my a small flurry of snow. This place is magic. I would do it again and again. Wedding planning is stressful but this place made it easy with an all in one package. Hair and make up, catering, floral and decor, bakery, and lodging ALL on site!! Then just use their wedding expo to research and pick a photographer, music, transportation and officiant. And you have all the major stuff already done! The next day after my wedding I did not have a feeling of let down. I was on cloud 9. And I told Michael, this place can just take my money again and again.”

“We could not have asked for a more perfect venue for our wedding!! From the very beginning, the communication with the team was responsive and clear, which alleviated any stress and just let us focus on the fun stuff! The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning details like the beautiful wood, stone, and stained glass accents that makes it feel like a little castle in the woods. Our guests have not stopped raving about the incredible food, even 3 months later! “TL;DR - there is plenty of space, the acoustics are awesome, the amenities are plenty and of great quality, and the staff is very friendly and helpful! They have some rules due to the historic nature of the building, but they weren't a problem and the owners will help you figure things out. We rented this space for our wedding. We chose it for a few reasons: -it's very spacious, but the acoustics were still incredible -it's in the middle of town -hotels are a short drive away, plenty of rides available -there is a small lift for those with mobility issues (we had a couple) -the facilities were all clean and new -it is climate-controlled They also supply plenty of chairs and tables, and offer a handful of lighting options (at additional cost) that really make the space feel comfy and welcoming. It's worth noting that Olio is based in a historic building, so there are rules in place to protect the walls, floors, and everything overhead. We didn't find the rules to be a problem, and the owner, Sarah, was very communicative and happy to work with us to satisfy both their rules and our vision. It is also worth noting that, for catering, Olio has a catalog of their own partnered/approved vendors (all full-service) that are trained to work within the rules of the venue. Caterers were available at multiple price points and a variety of cuisines to give plenty of options for people. There is an option to bring in other vendors, but at additional cost due to training. We went with Vinwood Caterers (from their catalog) for our wedding, and were absolutely blown away with the quality of their food and service. Back to the venue itself... When looking online, the pictures were all stunning, but the idea of getting married in a room with concrete walls was admittedly a little off-putting. Once we visited in person, though, we immediately fell in love with it. The nice view of Main Street through the windows and the natural lighting (and later the market lighting and up-lighting) really make the place feel more warm and welcoming than you might expect. There was virtually zero echo in there despite it being so big and open, and the patterning of the concrete is weirdly charming in person, probably thanks to the warm lighting. Pair that with good A/C in the summer and the other things listed above, and we were sold! On the big day, it all paid off and the space felt just as warm and welcoming as we'd hoped. Full-service catering was expensive, but they took care of almost literally everything - including setting up, moving, and breaking down furniture throughout the event - and still provided top notch food and drink. Well worth the cost to not stress about managing all the furniture ourselves and getting out on time. The venue's staff were there to make sure everything was working and kept us informed of things before and during the event. Overall - very glad we went with Olio despite the restrictions. Well worth the time and money for probably the best day of our lives yet!”

“My mother and I had a joint celebration of our birthdays around late September last year. The venue was everything we could have dreamed of. Since it is situated in Roosevelt Island, it was the perfect venue to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and yet still get a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. The team was also very friendly and supportive to all of our requests and questions. They made sure that our event will go accordingly to what we have envisioned. To top it all off, the food was amazing!!! It is so rare for the celebrants to eat during the event itself but I personally couldn't contain myself. Every dish that was offered during our event was impeccable and there wasn't any miss. There is not one bad thing that I could honestly say about this venue and the team behind. I highly recommend this to everyone!”

“Green Acres was an absolute dream for our wedding on May 25th! The barn is breathtaking—rustic, romantic, and full of charm. Our ceremony upstairs felt magical, and the entire day flowed seamlessly thanks to Megan, our amazing venue manager. She truly went above and beyond. The downstairs space was perfect for the cocktail hour, and the bridal suite shed out back was adorable—plenty of room for me and my seven bridesmaids. “My partner and I’s venue search ended the second we ascended in the historical elevator to the penthouse of the James Oviatt Building. The Oviatt venue is a multifaceted piece of beautiful Art Deco history that lends itself well to whatever event you are trying to throw. In our case, they hosted our wedding. We will forever be grateful for their immense care and kindness leading up to, on, and after the big day. We met the President Gabe first, who had his own wedding at this venue before he managed it. He made us feel right at home and answered every question we could muster. Our one hour showing turned into a two and a half hour conversation where his care and passion for the venue and his clients became very clear. We felt a connection right away. He shared a wealth of great advise and reassurances and gave us an impeccable pool of preferred vendors. We were sold in minutes. Every event is different, but my partner and I did not feel the space needed any help to become beautiful. The architectural art of the space is breathtaking and unique from the valet area outside of the Cicada Club all the way to the terrace. We saved a fortune on a florist. Who needs one when everything is already so classy? Speaking of class, the Director of Events Lindsey took point on execution and was our resource during the planning process. I as an individual am not the most communicative. I needed someone with that attention to detail and she delivered. After giving her all the venue required specifications (seating chart, insurances, etc,) two conversations was all it took for her to equip the venue with everything it needed and make it gorgeous. It seemed effortless for her. Not a spec of dust or dirt to be seen and the staff was respectful, efficient, and welcoming. I had a panic attack because I forgot to ask them for valet and she was able to get her people on it without issue the same week as the wedding. (Don’t be like me, but that is a perfect example of how on top of it they are.) They had EVERYTHING we could have wanted for a downtown metropolitan wedding and then some. If they didn’t have it? They knew exactly where to refer you. One of my personal favorite features was their completely customizable LED lighting strips on the hedges that lined either side of the rooftop. We had them a bright warm light for dinner and then a cycle of rainbow colors for dancing. They are inclusive and welcoming to any and all who come to visit. We felt valued, respected, and well cared for. It truly was the best day of our lives and we owe it all to The Oviatt. I implore to to reach out to them. I can say with certainty that you won’t be disappointed and whatever it is you are planning will become a memorable experience unlike any other.”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! The atmosphere was beautiful, creating the perfect backdrop for our celebration. We did the whole package for a daytime wedding, the ceremony and reception and lunch. I was so happy to be blessed with perfect weather as well as wild turkeys and hawks around the venue. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, and the staff’s professionalism and genuine care truly made our day unforgettable. “Overall, we would absolutely choose Ashton Gardens Corinth again. We had a wonderful experience with the venue and Walter’s Wedding Estates overall, and I’m sharing this review in hopes it helps future couples researching venues. First, our wedding planner and coordinator, Becca, was incredible. She is extremely organized, a great communicator, and such a kind person. Our day would not have been the same without her. She kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, checked in on us throughout the day, and truly made us feel supported and cared for. Venue: The beauty of Ashton Gardens is truly unmatched. The chapel is breathtaking, and I will never forget the moment the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle. The bridal suite was exactly what I hoped for and comfortably fit me, my seven bridesmaids, both moms, and our hair and makeup artists without feeling crowded. The groom’s suite is smaller, so the groom and his groomsmen chose to get ready off-site, which worked fine for them. One thing we loved is that the reception space is just a short walk from the chapel, making the transition to cocktail hour and the reception very easy for guests. The reception hall is spacious and offers a lot of flexibility for floor plans. We had 142 guests, plus a rented dance floor and dueling piano players, and the space felt perfect. One thing we wish we had known before booking is that the “included” rehearsal hour is only offered Monday–Thursday. Rehearsals outside those days require an additional fee. Food & Drinks: We chose the exceptional catering and bar package through Walter’s. Unfortunately, the food ended up being our least favorite part of the wedding, which is the only reason we are giving a four-star review instead of five. Several guests mentioned their meals were cold or dry, and we later learned the last table served received noticeably smaller portions, which was disappointing given that our final guest count was submitted well in advance. However, the team did a great job accommodating guests with dietary restrictions. Along these lines, we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to have an actual tasting to choose our menu, so we chose a chicken and steak duet as a safe choice. We did attend a Walter’s showcase, but they only had pork, fish, or chicken to try that night. Since we had fewer than 150 guests, we paid to have both bars open, which we highly recommend to avoid long lines. Guests had great things to say about the bartending services, and the signature drinks were fantastic. Vendor Package: The vendor package was a huge benefit. Not having to worry about rentals like linens, plates, glassware, and tables saved us a lot of time and stress. The vendors we worked with through the package were professional, communicative, and wonderful to work with.”

The food was phenomenal — so many guests told us it was the best wedding meal they’d ever had. The included vendors Wedgewood works with were equally incredible. Our officiant delivered a heartfelt, memorable ceremony, and Cakes Amore made the most delicious carrot cake we’ve ever had — it was a huge hit with everyone!
