How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“It all started in October 2022 when Michael and I bought a house in the area. We were driving around to explore and stubbled upon Ridgecrest. I had always wanted to get married on the side of a cliff. I said wouldn't it be so cool to get married here? Right in our town? Fast forward to seeing an ad for Stroudsmoor wedding expo. I wasn't even engaged and I booked us two tickets. It was just one day before the expo, when Michael proposed. I only had one venue in mind. Ridgecrest. When I would tell people where I was getting married at, I will never forget what everyone said; "it is so pretty there and the staff take such great care of you". And oh my gosh, YES do they ever take care of you! I can have panic attacks but the staff kept me focused. I was well care for with patience and love. I learned new techniques to distract me from anxiety that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you Belkis, Corinne, Kaylie, Becca, Corinne's sister and Carolyn. You ladies kept me together. At the end of wedding night, I have received nothing but positive compliments of how stunning my wedding was. It was the best wedding some guests had attended. The most beautiful. The happiest. Room was filled with love and everyone could feel it. Guests told me the food was great. So much food. So many IPA choices. Appetizers were great. Band was awesome. Venue stunning. Views of the valley gorgeous. Live painter was amazing. Hair and make-up made my girls into bombshells. A luxury deluxe wedding. I went all out for this wedding. Deciding to book it for March and hoping for snow. And sure enough, during my vows I got my a small flurry of snow. This place is magic. I would do it again and again. Wedding planning is stressful but this place made it easy with an all in one package. Hair and make up, catering, floral and decor, bakery, and lodging ALL on site!! Then just use their wedding expo to research and pick a photographer, music, transportation and officiant. And you have all the major stuff already done! The next day after my wedding I did not have a feeling of let down. I was on cloud 9. And I told Michael, this place can just take my money again and again.”

“We worked with Melissa as our wedding planner and honestly, she was amazing. From the beginning, she was super attentive, supportive, and always happy to help with anything we needed. From the up-front pricing information, to the first tour with Caio, to securing our date, coming in for a menu tasting and having our planning meeting with Anna and Kat - every step of the way reinforced my confidence that choosing Deity as our wedding venue was the right choice! The space is a beautiful historic building that's been converted to a four story (plus rooftop!) party venue. I loved that Deity provides all the dinnerware, linens and candles, it really limited the decisions we had to make so we could focus on personal touches for our day. We wanted our wedding to feel like an amazing house party, which Deity perfectly delivered. Anna was an incredible coordinator, so on top of everything and thoughtful. The day-of team ran everything so smoothly - I honestly wasn't stressed for a moment, because everyone was organized, calm and clearly loves what they do. “I went to the open house last year and fell in love with the Venue at First sight. The grass, pecan trees, citrus trees, and then 40,000 lights sold the deal. We got married on 5/25/24, with almost all guests flying in. Every guest commented on how romantic the venue was. Stephanie and Ben were the best; they were both very professional and provided their expertise when needed. I can't forget how the ceremony went perfectly due to the support and always encouraging staff, especially Ben. Ensemble Catering is a part of the venue, and being that I have mostly foodie friends, everyone thought the food was delicious. The late-night Fries and Cookie Wall were discussed for the next few days when guests called to say how much they enjoyed the evening. Another consideration in my 5-star review is that the vendors in the package and on their website were just as great to work with. My husband and I are so grateful to everyone who worked that day and all the others who helped plan and make it the best day of our lives. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “We had the most beautiful wedding at The Boylston Rooms. From the moment we first spoke with Erin and Myles we know this would be the venue we would choose. They saw our vision and really went above and beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. We were thrilled to be able to utilize their massive library of decorations and supplies to avoid having to purchase a ton of decorative elements and we donated the things we did end up purchasing so that they didnt end up sitting in our house (or worse, a landfill!) Myles and Erin both made absolutely certain that we got to enjoy every moment, including our food, and that we got to spend a moment alone together right after the ceremony to celebrate. Alyssa was by my side all day as my biggest cheerleader. I'm an emotional person who doesn't love being the center of attention. She had the most reassuring presence and all kinds of tricks up her sleeve. I will never forget her helping me take deep breaths, holding a cold can of Diet Coke on my chest to help calm me down. The Boylston Rooms made our wedding day so special, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We probably could've had a beautiful wedding anywhere if we had been willing to dedicate our entire lives to it for the year prior or shell out thousands of dollars for a planner and coordinator. But at The Boylston Rooms we didnt have to do either. We had a gorgeous wedding and it was affordable but above all it was effortless. With their help? We would do it again in a heartbeat.”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding venue than The Wheeler House!! I had followed this venue for YEARS on instagram and always knew I would be interested in touring. Once we toured the venue and heard about their amazing all inclusive package we booked immediately. Our wedding coordinator was Emma Ray and she was FANTASTIC. She made wedding planning a breeze and was always available to answer any questions I had. I never once felt stressed in the process thanks to her. She was amazing day one and made sure everything was absolutely perfect and just the way I wanted it! Our guests raved about how helpful Emma and all of the staff were, as well as how delicious the food was! We were on a pretty tight budget and this venue was great about allowing us to DIY certain aspects to save money where we needed. I seriously couldn’t dream of a better place to have a wedding!”

There is plenty of beauty everywhere you look. Gabe, Lindsey, and the rest of the team made us feel comfortable and taken care of throughout the entire wedding planning process. They were there to answer any and all of our questions via email and phone call if needed. They were flexible with us when we wanted to schedule walk-throughs with multiple vendors of ours. “Got married at Simple Affair this June and everything was wonderful from start to finish! From the very first visit before securing the date, the staff was very informative and helpful. Maddy, our event coordinator, was so responsive and attentive to any and all questions we had throughout the planning process. The day of, the team that was working was very helpful as well and adjusted to even the smallest last minute changes we made to our timeline and the different adjustments we made to the flow of the reception. I could not recommend this venue enough! They have so many different options and can as involved and all inclusive or as hands off as you would like them to be, it’s really very personalizable and we couldn’t have picked a better option! Another great benefit is that if you are a DIY bride, they are so adaptable to your vision and can help assist in bringing your Pinterest board to life. The space of the venue really is so big it’s amazing how well you can decorate the space and still have room for a big dance floor. One specific thing we loved about this venue and a big reason we went with them was the possibility of bringing in your own food to better fit your vision. Having specific kinds of food was very important to us because we had a particular vision and we were able to achieve that here! “The Red Barn at Outlook Farm was the first wedding venue we toured, and it stuck with us through our other visits. The team there was extremely helpful and communicative as we made our decision to ultimately book with them. We were then assigned a coordinator, Rachel, who over the next several months helped us through all the decisions that needed to be made. When we arrived on the day of the rehearsal, I felt absolutely sure that we had checked all our boxes and had no concerns that anything was going to fall through the cracks. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful. Very spacious, with lots of different areas for guests to gather - and take photos! Many of our guests enjoyed the patio throughout the night. The food and drinks on wedding day were fantastic, as were the servers and bartenders. Everyone who works there is so friendly! Bonus: Booking a wedding there comes with a free round of golf! My husband was able to golf after our rehearsal the day before the wedding. Would recommend The Red Barn to anyone!”

Our DOC Shannon was a pleasure to work with and our guests loved the extra care and attention that the staff provided on our wedding day. They even gave us one of each meal at the end of the night so we had a chance to enjoy what all our guests were having, even though we were very full from all the food earlier. “I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! I was so happy to be blessed with perfect weather as well as wild turkeys and hawks around the venue. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, and the staff’s professionalism and genuine care truly made our day unforgettable. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the stunning views and exquisite service. The food was impressive, and the cake was delicious (I hear - I didn't get a piece! Busy bride!) From the moment we stepped into the Terrain venue located in Glen Mills, we knew it was where we wanted to get married and host our indoor ceremony with family and friends. Carla and the entire Terrain event staff made our wedding day so special, and I loved that they made sure we took time to be together to enjoy the little moments. She answered EVERY question I had promptly, and it was a joy to work with her. A special shout out to Hen, our attendant for the Mushroom House for her professionalism in handling our wedding party as well as doing breathing exercises with me prior to the ceremony and checking in on me throughout the night (you are an angel). “Every step of the way this team took such good care of us as a couple and guided us in the direction of the BEST people to work with. We had the pleasure of planning a majority of the wedding with Allie - who let me tell you, is INCREDIBLE. She is the absolute sweetest and has such an eye for detail (while always keeping budget in mind), she made the whole planning experience so easy and fun! As for day of - we could not have been more taken care. Mary was our day of coordinator and took care of EVERYTHING. She always was checking in with me, calming me down, offering food or drinks to keep me comfortable - it felt like another friend there to make sure nothing went wrong. Not to mention - she bustled my dress for me!!! Eddy was a HUGE part of our day when it came to food - he made sure we ate everything and even delivered food directly to us at times!! Our day would not have been the same without them there. As for the entire wedding experience - it was an absolute dream, everything about it was perfect. The food was out of this world incredible & they were able to accommodate to my Celiac and almost everything was made gluten free (and allergy friendly for certain guests). The bartenders were kind enough to learn guests names and drinks and treated everyone like family.
