How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“You generally only get one wedding, which means going into the day without knowing about a lot of the tiny details that go into making a wedding run smoothly. You do the research, you read the blogs, you study your friends' weddings and get tons of advice, but still you don't know what it's really like. The staff at Deity do--they do this every day. I could write about how great the space is, how much fun everyone had, and how reasonable the price was, and I'll get to all of that, but I want to emphasize what the pictures can't. Our wedding day ran smoothly and comfortably for us and our guests, and it's due to the staff at Deity. They anticipated our needs, gave us lots of helpful advice in both the planning stages and the day of, and went above and beyond to make sure we had the wedding we wanted. Anna, the coordinator, answered my endless emails and asked even more questions that hadn't occurred to me, and on the day of she handled everything so seamlessly I actually got to enjoy myself; Caio, the owner, gave our officiant (my brother) tips about when to move the mic for the smoothest possible ceremony, and made sure my train looked perfect right when I first stepped out into the aisle; and none of the staff batted an eye when I came down an hour before the guests were arriving to say I needed help hiding clues for a scavenger hunt that I had not told them I was planning. They made sure my husband and I got something to eat and a quiet moment to ourselves, they helped us load an Uber at almost midnight on a Sunday with all the stuff we'd brought. They made the whole day feel seamless and fun, and I cannot thank them enough. Also, so many of my guests made a point to tell me how good the food was. I'll admit, I was a little nervous about committing to the in-house catering without a tasting (we were lucky enough to get a sample from Chef James on our initial tour), but my fears were entirely unfounded. The passed appetizers were genuinely amazing, and the food served at the family-style dinner was tasty and actually hot, which I feel like is rare amongst weddings I've been to. They also were very helpful in accommodating our guests with dietary restrictions, including coordinating an order from a restaurant for a celiac guest, whom their kitchen wasn't equipped to serve. The bar was also great, helped us come up with custom cocktails, and there was cocktail service everywhere, including on the dance floor. When I factored in the food and drink to the total cost we paid for Deity, it's also a really good deal, compared to other local catering options! I won't say too much about the space because you can see it in the pictures and judge the vibe for yourself on a tour. But I will say that having different spaces for the different parts of the event was great, and having the suite for getting ready (and for retreating to when we needed a moment) was a godsend--not to mention wonderful for our photos! Sunset skyine photos without leaving the venue? Don't mind if I do! The location was great for both our in town guests, and those staying at nearby hotels. If you like the look of Deity, don't hesitate. I hope your wedding there turns out just as wonderful as ours!”

“We couldn't be happier with how our wedding at the Chicago Winery turned out! We booked our date before CW construction was fully complete, but we loved everything about the space from the very beginning. It is an incredibly warm and inviting venue that was perfect for our day - we absolutely loved the ceremony/reception space but also really enjoyed having the terrace space for cocktail hour and as a quieter area during the reception for guests to step out while the band was playing. We had about 170 people at our event, and it was the perfect number for the space. One of the big selling points for us was that CW handles all food and drink onsite and everything was WONDERFUL. The CW team made us feel special and celebrated throughout the entire process and were very flexible and accommodating based on our various needs. “We had the most beautiful wedding at The Boylston Rooms. From the moment we first spoke with Erin and Myles we know this would be the venue we would choose. They saw our vision and really went above and beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. We were thrilled to be able to utilize their massive library of decorations and supplies to avoid having to purchase a ton of decorative elements and we donated the things we did end up purchasing so that they didnt end up sitting in our house (or worse, a landfill!) Myles and Erin both made absolutely certain that we got to enjoy every moment, including our food, and that we got to spend a moment alone together right after the ceremony to celebrate. Alyssa was by my side all day as my biggest cheerleader. I'm an emotional person who doesn't love being the center of attention. She had the most reassuring presence and all kinds of tricks up her sleeve. I will never forget her helping me take deep breaths, holding a cold can of Diet Coke on my chest to help calm me down. The Boylston Rooms made our wedding day so special, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We probably could've had a beautiful wedding anywhere if we had been willing to dedicate our entire lives to it for the year prior or shell out thousands of dollars for a planner and coordinator. “Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“Got married at Simple Affair this June and everything was wonderful from start to finish! From the very first visit before securing the date, the staff was very informative and helpful. Maddy, our event coordinator, was so responsive and attentive to any and all questions we had throughout the planning process. The day of, the team that was working was very helpful as well and adjusted to even the smallest last minute changes we made to our timeline and the different adjustments we made to the flow of the reception. I could not recommend this venue enough! They have so many different options and can as involved and all inclusive or as hands off as you would like them to be, it’s really very personalizable and we couldn’t have picked a better option! Another great benefit is that if you are a DIY bride, they are so adaptable to your vision and can help assist in bringing your Pinterest board to life. The space of the venue really is so big it’s amazing how well you can decorate the space and still have room for a big dance floor. “We had our wedding at The Red Barn this past May and everything was beyond perfect! Our wedding coordinator, Alex was so on top of everything during the planning stages and throughout the wedding itself. She is so incredible and we feel so lucky to have worked with her! The entire staff at The Red Barn was so amazing as well. The space is stunning and the food and drinks were incredible. We truly cannot say enough good things about The Red Barn! We had our reception and ceremony indoors and the fireplace backdrop was absolutely perfect. The space itself is beautiful and we really didn’t feel that we needed to do a ton of decorating which lessened stress and saved us on decor costs. However, all we really had to do was drop off what decorations we did have and Alex and her team took care of set up and breakdown with our vendors. We really didn’t have a single worry the weekend of the wedding. The amazing staff at The Red Barn took care of it all. We also stayed at Stage House Inn the weekend of the wedding and got ready there. Darien was a pleasure to work with and made coordinating room blocks so easy! The bridal suite comfortably fit all the girls getting ready (12 total people) plus 4 hair and makeup girls. It was also the perfect room for getting ready photos! We held our rehearsal lunch at The Links restaurant and the staff was so accommodating! We had a last minute reservation for around 25 and they took us no problem. Excellent and affordable food and drinks! Overall we had a perfect experience with every aspect of The Red Barn. We absolutely would recommend it to anyone looking for the perfect spot for their wedding!”
