How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We live in Massachusetts but my husband is from Sarasota so we wanted to get married in Florida. Bakers Ranch made everything so easy especially since we were from out of town. The entire planning process was relatively stress free because they include and help with so much. The fact that I had someone to email with and ask questions the entire year of planning was huge. Missy was our day of coordinator and she made sure everything ran smoothly. It really took away stress on the wedding day. They provide almost all vendors but you still get a choice (shout out to DJ Rafael with Grant Hemond, Blue Water Catering & Tampa Bay Cake Co). While we wished there was an additional dinner catering option (there were only 2) we were still very happy with Blue Water. They can also help with outside vendors and give recommendations. I highly recommend this venue and it felt like the best bang for our buck!”

“Stroudsmoor is the real deal. When we got engaged, my top priority was that I did not want to be stressed on my wedding day. Leading up to the day, I knew there was a lot of work, a lot of planning, but on my actual wedding day, I wanted to take care of nothing. I wanted to be in charge of nothing. I used to work in events, and I know the depth and insanity that comes with planning an event and how hard the actual event day can be. I knew that whatever venue we picked, it would need to be as all-inclusive and simple as possible. Everything about Stroudsmoor was a dream. The entire process was seamless. They were so professional. They were upfront on costs. Any service they did not offer themselves they had a list of preferred, recommended vendors. Leading up to the wedding day, we met with our planner, Kaylie, regularly, their on-site florist, Grayson, and Gina and the whole team at the bridal salon were incredible. They walked us through everything, step-by-step. We got married at Woodsgate this summer – surrounded by the forest, it was absolutely gorgeous and everything we could have hoped for. “First off, the wedding coordinator MELISSA at The Milestone Denton is godsend and 10000% deserves a huge raise and fat bonus for the amount of work she does and is so helpful in the planning process. She was very honest and upfront during the entire planning process. I am very Type A and for once in my life it was nice to have someone else in charge and I fully trusted her. She even provides recommendations when you don’t know what you want and will be honest with pricing. If it weren’t for Melissa, I don’t know how the wedding would have gone and I would have been so stressed during the planning process. She is so awesome that she goes out of her way to do things for you (be nice everyone!) and is very responsive. She also helped with the reception layout with my divorced parents who do not get along with other family members and it was a success. MELISSA IS THE BEST!! The venue - BEAUTIFUL. We had our ceremony indoors which was nice because our guests were able to take pictures at the gabezo in the back during cocktail hour. If you do your ceremony outside at the gazebo, the guests won’t be able to have their little photoshoots. The entire venue is gorgeous and every corner is a photo-op. It’s a great venue if you have 150 or less people. The big windows everywhere were just so beautiful. The bridal suite is HUGE and beautiful and the grooms suite is upstairs and has a tv and pool table. Perfect for the boys! The food, bar and DJ - everything was great and explained throughly by Melissa so expectations were set and made based on what tier and package you purchased I did not use the Walter Weddings photographer, florists or cake designer so I can’t speak to that. One downfall was on the day of the wedding with Melissa’s day of partner, Allison. She is super sweet and helped steam my bridal gown and Matron of Honor’s dress, which I’m so appreciative of. But I guess she didn’t communicate well to the staff on what needed to be done that day because there were several mishaps that shouldn’t have happened. The ceremony room was incomplete and she didn’t give me the chance to see how the front tables looked. I purchased 100 of bouquet flowers and ribbons that were supposed to be tied to each seat which I was told could be done since it was a simple task to tie 3 flowers and a bow on each aisle chair. This was not done so that small detail from my ceremony room seem bland and a waste of money. The front tables weren’t done how I wanted and it was chaotic having presents with our guestbook and our wedding sign. We wanted to utilize the buffet type table in the front room for presents so it’s not so cluttered when you walk in. Also, a lot of my items were not used for cocktail hour. After the wedding, I noticed the box was opened but she did not use what I purchase and the display for cocktail hour looked like a “backyard bbq” according to my guests. I was so disappointed because I had custom items and “backyard bbq” did not fit the vibe of “old Hollywood glam” of the wedding. Other than the day of mishaps, I highly recommend doing your wedding at Milestone Mansion Denton and having Melissa as your coordinator. GIVE HER A HUGE RAISE, Walter Weddings!!! She’s top notch and deserves it!”

Every single detail was executed perfectly. Every interaction was professional, timely, and warm. For the whole year leading up to our wedding, we felt incredibly supported and cared for. The space is GORGEOUS and feels intimate and special while still accommodating larger weddings. Our coordinator, Julia, and the team worked with the florist and all the decor we dropped off ahead of time to execute the design and vision better than I could ever dream up. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “My husband and I got married two weeks ago at The Sanctuary and had the best night! Our guests loved the many features of the venue (the pier, patio, tent, and indoor space), complimented the food and drinks, and we were all extremely impressed by the high quality service provided by the bartenders and waiters. Working with Amelia and Kat on the day was a pleasure and we couldn’t thank them enough for supporting us as we got set up that morning, and throughout the day. Our wedding day was the first time we interacted with either of them, and it was a pleasant surprise to have so much support on our side. Throughout the planning process we worked closely with Alfonso. Alfonso does a great job selling The Sanctuary and was available to answer our questions along the way. There were definitely some things we needed to dig into a bit more than we thought we’d have to - creating a detailed timeline for the day based a few examples provided, develop clearer floorplans of the venue for our vendors to ensure they understood the space, putting together a table map for our dinner setup, renting/purchasing the sound equipment needed for our ceremony on the pier, finding an alternative rehearsal space, and hiring a day of coordinator to support with decor, set-up, flow, and cleanup. Reading other reviews of the venue was super helpful to ensure we were asking the right questions and following up on pieces that seemed unclear. If you’re looking for an affordable (relative to the rest of NYC), dynamic, and interesting wedding venue, and you’re willing to put in the work or hire a wedding planner, this is definitely a great contender!”

“The Oviatt is a wonderful venue and it was such a pleasure working with Lindsey and Gabe! We knew during our tour that the Oviatt was the right venue for us. The size (for small-medium sized weddings), location, and character of the venue is really unparalleled. Then layer on top table and linen deal when you work with a preferred catering vendor and the Oviatt is the best deal in town! Gabe was very helpful during the touring and contracting phase. He communicates very clearly which made the process very smooth. There were no surprise charges at any point. The cost of everything was communicated very clearly upfront. Then, once we signed the contract, we worked with Lindsey, the director of events who supports the planning phase. Lindsey answered all of our questions in a timely and patient manner. She never hesitated to answer our questions, even when the answers to our questions were clearly outlined in the welcome packet! The event planning tools the team uses makes it incredibly easy to stay up on all of the planning details from floorplan to linen selections, to guest count - the tool handles it all with clear deadlines for each task. Finally, on the day of our wedding the Oviatt team executed the event so smoothly. Everything went off without a hitch! Our guests were so impressed by the venue. Quintessential LA rooftop vibe with art deco architecture. Such a treat. We would recommend the Oviatt to anybody looking to get married in the downtown area. “The Red Barn at Outlook Farm was the first wedding venue we toured, and it stuck with us through our other visits. The team there was extremely helpful and communicative as we made our decision to ultimately book with them. We were then assigned a coordinator, Rachel, who over the next several months helped us through all the decisions that needed to be made. When we arrived on the day of the rehearsal, I felt absolutely sure that we had checked all our boxes and had no concerns that anything was going to fall through the cracks. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful. Very spacious, with lots of different areas for guests to gather - and take photos! Many of our guests enjoyed the patio throughout the night. The food and drinks on wedding day were fantastic, as were the servers and bartenders. Everyone who works there is so friendly! Bonus: Booking a wedding there comes with a free round of golf! My husband was able to golf after our rehearsal the day before the wedding. Would recommend The Red Barn to anyone!”

Pictures don’t do it justice and it’s so beautiful you truly need very little to make it your own. Gaby was incredible for the entire planning process all the way through to our big day. We did almost everything ourselves- including creating an arch to be married under, to signage, to table decor, even our own wedding flowers. Gaby answered every question with ease and was incredible at assuaging my nerves. She and her team set things up perfectly from the ceremony to the switch for dinner and then dancing. I often questioned if we needed a day of coordinator and was so happy I didn’t waste my money on one because it wasn’t needed. I never knew a day could be as truly magical as our wedding was and a huge part of that was how much we loved our venue. I would happily suggest it to anyone asking. The other huge bonus is it was truly one of if not the best value for venues in the twin cities. This gem will continue to gain notoriety as an incredible venue for years to come!!”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“Our wedding was everything we hoped for. Courtney (our coordinator) was warm, organized, and made the day run smoothly. Mikayla and Malia were so friendly and helpful, and Christy (bartender) kept checking in to make sure we had drinks in hand. We also really liked our DJ, Madeleine—she kept the energy up all night, but considering I had given her a very long list of songs we really liked, I was sad when she played some that weren’t even on the list, particularly during dinner service, knowing that meant less time for the songs we loved most. The ceremony site was stunning, and the reception space perfectly blended rustic mountain charm with elegance. The prime rib was excellent, and overall, the food exceeded our expectations. Dropping off, having them set everything up and picking up decorations went so smoothly. Unfortunately, the contracted bakery that was included in our package never got back to us, even after we followed up multiple times. Because of that, we had to use an outside baker, The Cakery Pastry Studio, whose cake was amazing—but it cost us more money out-of-pocket, even after receiving a credit. The Gold Nugget Cabin was clean and charming, though the bathrooms are dated. I did appreciate that they had recently updated the bridal suite, which made for beautiful “getting ready” photos. I do wish check-in had been earlier for photos, as I felt rushed before the ceremony. My only real regret is not adding an extra hour to the reception—it flew by too quickly. The only big negative I have to share is how close to the wedding they were able to confirm our rehearsal time between 9:00 AM or 1:00 PM. That impacts travel time for the wedding party. In my case they were all coming in from out of state and navigating child care. Not knowing if they’d need to fly in the night before or if they could swing an early AM flight until just 6 weeks before our date added extra stress on me and our wedding party.”

“Having our wedding at Bay Pointe was to put it simply: perfection. We booked our wedding over a year in advance and from the first few seconds that we stepped in for our tour of the venue, we were in love. Mariesa, our sales manager, was so personable and so accommodating. The entire process leading up to the wedding was so efficient working with Madison. She was so communicative and so easy to work with. All of our changes, questions, recommendations, literally everything - she had an answer to! We always felt so welcomed by the entire staff. Our rehearsal dinner at the Bay Pointe Bar and Grill was beautiful and the staff that night were amazing - they made sure we were doing ok, our family was fed and everyone was having a good time. Lauren, our day of coordinator was excellent at her job. She worked so well with all of our vendors and family. We had the BEST time ever. The value is worth the money you spend. A huge thank you to everyone on the Bay Pointe team who helped us along the way and the weekend of.”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.

“BOOK WITH NAZARETH HALL!! I can not say enough good things about this wedding venue. First of all it’s gorgeous!!! And they checked all of our boxes and more. We were looking for an all inclusive venue and that is just what they do. Venue, catering, alcohol and ceremony and reception all in one place! Their wedding coordinators make the wedding planning process so easy. They were available for any email or phone call any time. They provide you with a preferred vendor book which is amazing and helped us pick ALL of our vendors. The food and bar service were great and I got so many compliments from family and friends. Last but not least they provide you with a day of coordinator! She took all the stress away on the wedding day, communicated with the preacher, musicians, etc and made sure everyone was lined up correctly! As a bride I couldn’t appreciate this enough! She also brought my husband and I drinks all night so we could stay with family and friends and dance and didn’t have to worry about going down to the bar. Nazareth hall is amazing and I can’t say enough great things about them! If you are looking for a wedding venue look no further!”
