“We had our wedding anniversary at the Prado and it was the dream celebration I wished I'd had for our wedding! FIrst off, the options we were offered for food choices was over the top. Everyone was so accomodating helping us with things. The day of, I felt like a Queen! I never lifted a finger- the staff always made sure I had a drink in my hand, and each time I got up from my chair, I came back to a seat with fresh a fresh napkin. The wait staff is so professional- they are there but not in your face. Everything we needed or wanted was handled for us. We have an event company, so have many contacts in the industry, and we chose to have our big party at the Prado because we knew we would be taken care of. We were not let down!”

Designed for Connection, Not Just Celebration Traditional venues are often built around tight timelines—set hours, quick transitions, and a sense that everything must fit neatly into a single day. At Poway Equestrian Center, we’ve chosen a different approach. Our weddings are intentionally designed as multi-day, hosted ranch experiences. This means you’re not rushing from moment to moment. Instead, you’re given the time and space to settle in, connect with your guests, and fully enjoy each part of your celebration. Whether it’s a relaxed welcome gathering, a quiet morning getting ready, or a farewell brunch the next day, every moment feels more intentional when it isn’t compressed. We believe your wedding should feel like something you lived, not something that flew by.

“We had our wedding at The Ole Firehouse at Lake Cuyamaca, and it was truly everything we hoped for and more. If you're looking for a rustic, intimate venue with beautiful nature vibes, this place is hard to beat. The lake views created such a peaceful and scenic backdrop—our guests are still talking about it. One of the best parts of booking this venue was having the space for the entire weekend. We had Friday to set everything up, celebrated on Saturday, and then had Sunday to tear down without feeling rushed at all. That alone made the whole experience so much less stressful. Kelly, the venue coordinator, was amazing to work with. She communicated clearly throughout the process and made sure everything ran smoothly on the big day. Having someone reliable and organized like her made a huge difference—we were actually able to relax and enjoy our wedding. Another huge bonus was being able to rent the lakefront cabins for our stay. It made the whole weekend feel even more special and gave us extra time with our family and friends in such a beautiful setting. We genuinely had no issues from start to finish. If you're considering this venue, I highly recommend it—it’s the perfect mix of scenic, relaxed, and well-coordinated.”

Oakwood Creek Celebrations
Rating: 5.0 (2 reviews)
Julian, CA
  • Up to 100 guests
  • Select services
  • Outdoor
  • Starts at $3,400

Oakwood Creek was built in the 1930s by WW Wood and his wife Leanora. Wood drove a truck that hauled dairy milk from the outlying ranches into the town of Julian. Later on, Wood would operate B&L Liquor on the main street. The remains of W's garage are still very apparent on the property today, along with his goat shed & stables. We have one of the last intact water towers in the historic district. The property has been preserved to reflect the period in which it was built. This beautiful venue sits atop a picturesque knoll overlooking the historic town of Julian. Sherry Horton, owner of Oakwood Creek Celebrations, offers signature style that everyone—no matter their affair—will find "oh so easy". Growing up in rural Ohio, Sherry brings the style of country that is reminiscent of simpler gracious time, learning from her grandmother Emma Barrett of all things romantically beautiful. Sherry’s work has been featured in Country Living Magazine, Where Women Create, and San Diego Magazine.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Pets can join the celebration
  • Creates a sense of togetherness

“The Oakwood Creek Celebrations staff were a joy to work with! I am so grateful that the staff customized a great package for our wedding day, with very short notice. Our Officiant Rev Hannah Wilder, performed a beautiful ceremony by the koi pond. The location is gorgeous, and the staff made us feel as if we were family. Every detail of our wedding was beautifully done, making the entire experience amazing and completely stress free. A million thanks to our wedding coordinator Sherry, who went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed and even took photos for us, since we didn't have a photographer. Our wedding was better than anything I dreamed of!”

Some called it a magical garden- it truly was! Epic Events (coordinators) were AWESOME. I highly recommend working with them. “Gorgeous and peaceful location, perfect for a celebration of any kind. I booked Meyer Hall at the Lakeside Community Center for an engagement party in March 2026 for 95 guests (max capacity is 250). They also offer smaller rooms for groups of 30 to 90. I loved the spacious layout of Meyer Hall, which is conveniently adjacent to the kitchen. You can decorate however you like, provided you don't attach anything to the walls/ceiling or use open flames, confetti, or rice. We used tablecloths, flowers, LED votives, and small candies, which elevated the space to a classy, elegant, wedding-like feel. There is also plenty of free parking just a short walk from the hall, making it easy to navigate for guests in heels or those using strollers and wheelchairs. The Logistics: The 4-hour rental (4:00 PM to 8:00 PM) automatically included two additional hours for setup and one hour for breakdown. I added tables, chairs, a stage, and multimedia equipment to my reservation. A security guard was required, along with a catering fee and a cleaning deposit. I did not rent the kitchen, as our caterers handled everything on the patio. The total came to 1,510, which I found very reasonable and affordable. I was also pleased to see the security deposit returned to my credit card less than a week later. My main contact, Michelle, was incredibly kind and professional throughout the entire planning process. Pro-Tips for Planning: Insurance: You’ll need one-day event insurance (I used Markel for 75). Note that providing alcohol requires additional coverage and potentially an extra security guard. The Tour: You must tour the space with a staff member at least 45 days before your event and prior to booking. Since this is a busy community center, tours are only offered on very specific days/times. Breakdown: The rental requires you to clear, wipe, and stack all furniture, take trash to the dumpster, and sweep/mop. This wasn't a problem for us, but it’s an important detail if you’re planning a formal wedding! The Highlights: My favorite feature was the view of the beautiful lake and local birds. The A/C worked perfectly, which was a huge relief during a recent heat wave. Our dessert vendor, Cabetos Pops, served guests on the patio starting at 6:30 PM. This coincided perfectly with "golden hour," making for a truly magical moment. While the lakefront is open to the public, our area still felt private and secluded. We also had Taquizas José cater delicious tacos on the patio; our guests raved about the food! (I highly recommend checking out their Yelp pages for my full 5-star reviews). Minor Hiccup: The only subpar aspect was the multimedia setup. The Bluetooth speakers didn’t work for about half the party. I had scheduled a time two weeks prior to test the equipment, and the battery was dead even then. My fiancé and I had curated a thoughtful playlist, so it was disappointing the device wasn't charged. To their credit, the staff worked hard to resolve it and ensured it functioned once charged. My suggestion: Kindly and clearly remind the staff to charge the speakers a few days before your event. All in all, I really enjoyed hosting our friends and family here and would not hesitate to book again. They are undergoing some construction this year which may affect lake views, so just check with the staff before booking.”
