The Whittemore House is one of Washington’s most historic and elegant mansions. Designed as a private residence between 1892 and 1894 by architect Harvey Page for opera singer Sarah Adams Whittemore, the mansion is conveniently located in Dupont Circle. The immense charm of the irregularly shaped exterior is handsomely reflected in the interior room arrangement and open connecting spaces, making it an ideal gathering space for your next special event. The Woman’s National Democratic Club has occupied the mansion since 1927. The Whittemore House was listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1973 and was granted museum status in 2000. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, our meeting house was constructed in 1930 during the administration of the Quaker president, Herbert Hoover. It was built to serve as a house of worship and a gathering place for those wanting to “seek peace and pursue it.” The building was enlarged in 1950. In 1970, we acquired the red brick Quaker House, Carriage House and garden at 2121 Decatur Place NW. Built in the 1920s and also on the National Register, these buildings today house a number of nonprofit organizations and small businesses as well as additional event spaces. With multiple interior spaces and gardens, we can accommodate events of various sizes and layouts, from 2 to 300. We host individuals, non-profit organizations, and for-profit entities. Our event rental prices are affordable, with discounts offered to non-profit organizations in alignment with our values. The Showroom is located on 14th Street, NW and boasts over 8,000 sq/ft of modern-industrial event space. 18 foot ceilings accentuate the open floorplan of the venue. Designed with events in mind, The Showroom offers many unique features. Dimmable overhead lighting in the main space downstairs set the mood for a ceremony, cocktail hour or reception.
