How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married at Woodsgate at the Stroudsmoor last weekend and to say it was perfect would still be an understatement. All but two of our vendors were internally through the venue and they took care of everything! From food to cake to makeup and hair to decorations, the Stroudsmoor team did a fantastic job putting together such a magical day for my husband and I. Our closest guests and us stayed for the weekend and enjoyed their gorgeous rooms with woodsy views and a delicious breakfast buffet for both mornings. Throughout the weekend, the staff were friendly and personable and were a part of some of our best memories from the weekend. It’s a week later and our guests still have not stopped raving about the food and the incredible service. The price was reasonable and worth every penny! “We got married here on Sunday 9/29 and I really can’t say enough good things about this space. The team was great to work with and all of our guests were so impressed by the space because it’s not like anything else really. I LOVED having the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in one room because we wasted almost no part of our day shepherding folks from place to place. The caterer recommended to us, Premier, was also amazing and they were on it and had many great suggestions to make the day as great as possible as they work in the space often. If you want outdoor photos before we found two great little parks to work with and ended up doing our first look and family portraits at “Leather City Commons” which is a three minute drive down the street. Then the two of us walked the ten minute walk back to Olio from there and got some great photos by Peabody City Hall and there are truly a plethora of great brick walls to choose from for a good backdrop! For getting ready we stayed at the Bell Inn and Tavern and their team was also amazing! I got ready in a Junior King Suite my parents were staying in and their team flipped the bridal suite early (as they had a wedding party the night before) so we could do bridal portraits with the moms and my sister. My husband and I stayed there that night and the room is gorgeous. My only regret with that space is we didn’t stay longer because it was so beautiful!!! (And the room service food we ordered from the tavern for lunch was great!) Shout out specifically to Kelsey and Heather for all of their help. Logistically I was a little nervous about it being in Peabody as we live closer to Boston but parking is free on Sundays and folks could Uber easily to the venue. Many out of town folks loved being able to stay near Salem to make it a great weekend trip. Last, I cannot recommend enough having a day of coordinator. I know Sarah who runs Olio has her own planning company and would be amazing to work with. I was lucky enough to have an amazing coworker and friend who helped me out and I literally gave him a binder with everything and I did not stress about anything for the entire day. I did not see my cell phone or get asked a single logistics question all day and it was GLORIOUS. I think that covers everything and will absolutely update if I think of anything else that can help out future brides considering this great space!!!”

“100% would recommend Walden for a stress-free wedding experience!!! We knew Walden was our venue when we read about their full-service wedding packages including planners, kitchen/bar all under one roof. After we toured the venue, we could not wait to have our wedding here. Our main planners were Hannah and Briscel, and we had the pleasure of a 3rd planner, Ally with a last-minute day-of staffing change. Hannah and Briscel took the stress out of wedding planning, keeping us on track with every detail and vendor. Ally made sure the wedding day ran seamlessly. One of the best things we loved about working with the planners was their recommendations for local vendors (floral, DJ, photography etc.). Their assistance contacting and coordinating calls/quotes from vendors was also a huge help. Every possible detail regarding the wedding was accounted for, so we were certain nothing would be missed along the way. Now for the fun part, our wedding day was absolutely perfect and better than we ever dreamt. The coordinators kept us on schedule and sent an itinerary in advance, so everyone knew where to be and what was coming up next. They handled all of the communication with vendors and all the little details, so we could fully be present on our wedding day. We did not have any moments of stress, or panic, and was rarely asked any questions or to do any tasks. The Walden team set everything up for us from the welcome sign to the memorial table and of course the gorgeous reception room. It’s like suddenly we got teleported into our Pinterest vision board! A big shout out to Nick and Matt, the kitchen and bar staff. They were absolutely amazing! The drinks were awesome, the bartenders could make any drink guests wanted including mocktails. The food was incredible, so many guests complimented on how delicious their meals were. We also really appreciated their accommodations for various food restrictions and preferences. Overall, the Walden staff has truly thought of everything. They made the very daunting task of planning a wedding much more manageable, and made the whole day that much more special. “Green Acres Event center was absolutely gorgeous! It caught our eyes online and we immediately wanted to see it in person! We went and toured, were greeted by friendly staff and showed around the property! From the beauty of the barn on the outside the the gorgeous detailing and sparkle from the chandeliers on the inside all the way to the stunning bridal suite, we knew when we walked through the doors this was our wedding venue! Robyn was absolutely amazing to work with from any questions I had while planning all the way through the day of. She made the day seem seamless and even helped me stay calm in the chaos! I would choose this venue over and over again! Our guests loved it and had wonderful time! The only complaint we heard is that they wished there was a bathroom on the second floor where the dinner and dancing was but other than that we had no complaints! Everyone should consider using this venue!”

“Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Not only was Christine present the day of, but the staff was also on their A game all night long. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and kind, we felt like royalty. We both highly recommend this venue and if you do, definitely get the Schnitzel, Prost! The only recommendation to the venue would be to update their beverage packages to include seltzers such as High noons or White claws. “The Wheeler House was everything I was looking for in a wedding venue. I wanted to have as little stress as possible during wedding planning and on the day of the wedding, and they delivered. Ashley was the coordinator and helped answer every question we had very quickly. She also helped everything so smoothly on the day of. She even had appetizers and drinks ready for us as soon as we were done with the ceremony. Their wedding package included a lot of the big things (catering, DJ, cake, etc..) and they had great recommendations for other vendors. We had a large bridal party and there was plenty of room for us to get ready. I’m not exaggerating when I say we’ve had almost half of our guests tell us it was one of the best weddings they’ve been to. Everyone was raving about the food and how beautiful everything was. I’m lucky to have had my wedding here and will always recommend them!”

Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today.
