How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married with only 7-8 months notice and the venue and staff pulled it off tremendously. From the first meeting, our planner - Kaylie - was professional and receptive to our ideas and needs. We wanted a sort of “magic forest” theme and they delivered beyond our expectations. Weddings are expensive, but we do feel like we got our money’s worth, and I appreciated that there was room to cut costs wherever we wanted - it allowed for a lot of flexibility throughout the process. Tons and tons of variety and options. Kaylie helped the whole thing run smoothly and she maintained a calm control throughout the process. Grayson and the floral team totally floored us with the designs and decor, turning the reception hall into a bonafide dark academia / elven fantasy masterpiece. We got so many compliments on all the smallest details, and she was super receptive to our vision - totally knocked it out of the park. Ryan, Ann, and Bronte - along with the rest of the day-of staff (bartenders, servers, etc) were unbelievably accommodating and kind, going as far as to physically pick up waste from birds and woodland creatures that ended up near one of the ponds we wanted to take photos at. Everyone was locked into our needs without us even needing to voice any of them, and it all felt very personable - I felt very much like they were seeing us as people and individuals rather than just clients. Compliments to the chefs and cooking staff too. The dinners were very good and the cocktail hour apps and platters were awesome - super creative and really tasty! Couldn’t recommend this place more highly!”

“Our wedding was on November 2024 and Caio and his team at Deity had made it such an easy process! Let’s rewind a bit to when my wife and I were venue shopping. We had initially stumbled upon Deity through their amazing reviews and reached out to Caio to see if we can take a tour of the venue. His response time was faster than any of the other places that I’ve reached out to and he has been so accommodating to my schedule to tour. Upon touring the place, it was such a “Brooklyn vibe” with the exposed brick in the loft as well as the amazing cellar and dance floor. Its unique structure was also a great selling point for us as all of the places were isolated on a specific floor. The highlight was certainly the wedding suite on the top floor! After our tour, we knew that this was the place for our wedding. Initially, we were planning a micro wedding but having physically looked at the venue, we opted for the all-inclusive wedding along with the bridal suite option. Honestly, the prices were too good not to go for it. Caio and his team thankfully had the exact date we wanted for our wedding. Planning for the wedding was such a breeze thanks to Caio and his team. They would periodically reach out to coordinate the wedding and any questions I had would prompt an immediate response from his team. Caio’s team coordinated everything with my additional vendors and honestly made planning so easy. All I had to do was just tell his team what I wanted for the wedding. Inching closer to the day of, we had scheduled a food tasting with Chef James so we had a better idea of what to pick for the menu. If you have the budget for it, certainly opt for the tasting. Chef James is a master at what he does. Every single plate of food that was presented was meticulously explained and not to mention delicious! One of the biggest things that guests care about at a wedding is the food and let me tell you, the food was delicious. We had our reservations of whether or not there would be enough food given it was family-style, but all of our guests were well fed and full. After the wedding, our guests wouldn’t stop talking about the food! On the day of the wedding, we had access to the venue in the morning to bring our outfits to the wedding suite. This area was great as it provided the perfect space for us, along with friends and family to get ready. Hair and makeup were all done in the wedding suite prior to the wedding. Guests upon arrival were directed by staff and for welcome drinks and taken to the loft prior to the ceremony. After the ceremony, we were directed back to the wedding suite for a chance for the two of us to enjoy some snacks and take a breather while guests were enjoying cocktail hour. Halfway throughout cocktail hour, we were guided back to mingle with guests and then went back upstairs for the reception. After enjoying a wonderful meal, it was time to party down at the cellar. DJ BenHa had such a great playlist and guests enjoyed a wonderful night of dancing. Plus, the open bar concept and specialty cocktails curated by the bartending team were such a hit. Even to this day, when I speak to guests, they can’t stop talking about our wedding. If you want an affordable, all-inclusive, all-planned out wedding, Deity is your bet. Caio and his team will ensure that your wedding will be stress-free and a breeze.”

We chose some budget friendly options (for items such as flowers and decor) but no matter the size, every bride is treated with luxury customer service. “We were absolutely thrilled with our experience at Walden Chicago. From the moment we toured the venue with Maria, we knew it was the perfect place for our November 2024 wedding. A huge added perk that we quickly learned was going to make a huge difference in our wedding planning experience was the included in-house planning team. Kalila and Alyssa supported us from beginning to end. Throughout the planning process both Kalila and Alyssa were attentive and responsive. Whether they were recommending vendors, answering one of many questions, helping us sort through rehearsal dinner options, or navigating final meetings and details they were with us through every step of the way. The online planning tool you gain access to through Walden helps you stay organized and makes sure you don’t forget any detail (big or small). When we had a slight mishap with our cake the day of the wedding they had already reached out to the bakery on our behalf before the wedding was over and a partial refund for the cake was secured by the next morning. Our wedding day ran smoothly thanks to Kalila and Alyssa. I felt as though I did not have to worry about a thing. The planning team handled all communication with vendors and kept us on schedule which allowed for us both to be very present on our big day. I have to highlight the spacious bridal suite as it was the perfect place to start the day. With 9 bridesmaids, a mother of the bride and a mother of the groom you naturally worry about any space feeling cramped but the separate getting ready stations and lounge area allowed everyone to be relaxed and comfortable the morning of the wedding and throughout the wedding day. This was also the perfect space to be tucked away post ceremony to enjoy our first moments together as newlyweds. Walden had our signature drinks and the appetizers waiting for us to enjoy a quiet moment alone before heading down to join our cocktail hour. The rooftop at golden hour made for some breathtaking photos, the ceremony space lit with candles crated the perfect ambiance for our Friday evening ceremony, and the cocktail and reception spaces decorated to fit our vision made for the most memorable day. After the tasting party a few months prior to the wedding, we knew the food and drinks were going to be a stand out part of the evening. Because we were given multiple options for appetizers, salads, mains and drinks, we were really able to personalize the menus to our taste. Guests raved about our food and drinks. We were told by nearly every guest that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Walden seamlessly accommodated various guests food restrictions and allergies as well. As we look back on our wedding day, all we can do is smile. The combination of the beautiful spaces, top-notch planning, and incredible food and drinks made our special day even more memorable. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “We absolutely loved our wedding at The Sanctuary! We initially worked with Amelia and then with Arthur and Kat towards the end of our planning process. Every contact at The Sanctuary was very responsive and accommodating. We loved the space, especially having multiple different areas for guests to enjoy (the chapel for dancing/desserts, the tent for dinner/conversation, and the outdoor patio for smores!) and the beautiful NYC skyline in the background. The bridal suite where we all got ready was spacious and comfortable. I was a little nervous about the temperature in the tent during a November wedding, but it was very comfortable! “Green Acres Event center was absolutely gorgeous! It caught our eyes online and we immediately wanted to see it in person! We went and toured, were greeted by friendly staff and showed around the property! From the beauty of the barn on the outside the the gorgeous detailing and sparkle from the chandeliers on the inside all the way to the stunning bridal suite, we knew when we walked through the doors this was our wedding venue! Robyn was absolutely amazing to work with from any questions I had while planning all the way through the day of. She made the day seem seamless and even helped me stay calm in the chaos! I would choose this venue over and over again! Our guests loved it and had wonderful time! The only complaint we heard is that they wished there was a bathroom on the second floor where the dinner and dancing was but other than that we had no complaints! “Can’t overstate what an incredible experience we had with the Oviatt. Not only was the venue perfect for wedding, but the staff truly made the entire planning and day-of experience so smooth and welcoming. The space is gorgeous and one-of-a-kind - we didn’t have to decorate at all, there were so many little spaces and pockets guests to explore and mingle in, all the original art deco decor and furnishings were so cool. We didn’t have to add anything (but could have brought in outside rentals and vendors if we wanted) - the venue rental includes seating for the ceremony and reception, the rooftop lounge was fully furnished was lounge furniture, the terrace is already decorated with bistro lighting, twinkle lights and ivy walls, and there is lounge seating throughout the indoor space. Also included were cocktail tables, easels for signage, tables for our buffet set up. All of these things at other venues we looked at were either additional costs or we’d have to bring in additional vendors to supply. What really made the experience though was the Oviatt staff - Lindsey and Gabe are both so friendly, approachable, welcoming and supportive. Other venues we looked at were all business, had a “take it or leave it” vibe and kind of made us feel like we should be grateful for even to be given the chance to have an event there; Lindsey and Gabe were the exact opposite - they weren’t just trying to rent out a space, they were helping us host our wedding and doing everything they could to make sure our plans were realized. They provided us with so much information beyond what was required of them - they had a whole packet with a suggested timeline for planning, a Planning Pod tool that enabled us to track our vendors and plan out our floorplans and seating charts, lists of vendors we needed to consider and decisions we needed to make. Gabe had an actual meeting with us to discuss what we were looking for in a venue and our wedding, and have is all of this information we even booked the space. Lindsey followed up with us periodically in the months leading up to the wedding to remind us of what we needed to be taking care of and making sure we were on track. Both of them were always generous with their time answering our many questions and being flexible in accommodating our requests. We felt so supported and cared for throughout the entire process, and felt more like we had friends in our corner than like we were coordinating with a vendor. Truly cannot say enough about how wonderful this team is and how appreciative we are. We looked at practically every venue in the downtown/northeast LA area, and this one not only blew away the competition in what they offered, but it was also the most affordable option! It’s really like having the efficiency of an all-inclusive venue without the restrictions. And of course all of our guests loved it - we are still getting comments on how unique and beautiful the space was, and how much everyone enjoyed having so many different spaces to explore and congregate throughout the evening. Best decision we could have made.”

“BOOK WITH NAZARETH HALL!! I can not say enough good things about this wedding venue. First of all it’s gorgeous!!! And they checked all of our boxes and more. We were looking for an all inclusive venue and that is just what they do. Venue, catering, alcohol and ceremony and reception all in one place! Their wedding coordinators make the wedding planning process so easy. They were available for any email or phone call any time. They provide you with a preferred vendor book which is amazing and helped us pick ALL of our vendors. The food and bar service were great and I got so many compliments from family and friends. Last but not least they provide you with a day of coordinator! She took all the stress away on the wedding day, communicated with the preacher, musicians, etc and made sure everyone was lined up correctly! As a bride I couldn’t appreciate this enough! She also brought my husband and I drinks all night so we could stay with family and friends and dance and didn’t have to worry about going down to the bar. Nazareth hall is amazing and I can’t say enough great things about them! If you are looking for a wedding venue look no further!”

“Overall, we would absolutely choose Ashton Gardens Corinth again. We had a wonderful experience with the venue and Walter’s Wedding Estates overall, and I’m sharing this review in hopes it helps future couples researching venues. First, our wedding planner and coordinator, Becca, was incredible. She is extremely organized, a great communicator, and such a kind person. Our day would not have been the same without her. She kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, checked in on us throughout the day, and truly made us feel supported and cared for. Venue: The beauty of Ashton Gardens is truly unmatched. The chapel is breathtaking, and I will never forget the moment the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle. The bridal suite was exactly what I hoped for and comfortably fit me, my seven bridesmaids, both moms, and our hair and makeup artists without feeling crowded. The groom’s suite is smaller, so the groom and his groomsmen chose to get ready off-site, which worked fine for them. One thing we loved is that the reception space is just a short walk from the chapel, making the transition to cocktail hour and the reception very easy for guests. The reception hall is spacious and offers a lot of flexibility for floor plans. We had 142 guests, plus a rented dance floor and dueling piano players, and the space felt perfect. One thing we wish we had known before booking is that the “included” rehearsal hour is only offered Monday–Thursday. Rehearsals outside those days require an additional fee. Food & Drinks: We chose the exceptional catering and bar package through Walter’s. Unfortunately, the food ended up being our least favorite part of the wedding, which is the only reason we are giving a four-star review instead of five. Several guests mentioned their meals were cold or dry, and we later learned the last table served received noticeably smaller portions, which was disappointing given that our final guest count was submitted well in advance. However, the team did a great job accommodating guests with dietary restrictions. Along these lines, we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to have an actual tasting to choose our menu, so we chose a chicken and steak duet as a safe choice. We did attend a Walter’s showcase, but they only had pork, fish, or chicken to try that night. Since we had fewer than 150 guests, we paid to have both bars open, which we highly recommend to avoid long lines. Guests had great things to say about the bartending services, and the signature drinks were fantastic. Vendor Package: The vendor package was a huge benefit. “Our wedding was everything we hoped for. Courtney (our coordinator) was warm, organized, and made the day run smoothly. Mikayla and Malia were so friendly and helpful, and Christy (bartender) kept checking in to make sure we had drinks in hand. We also really liked our DJ, Madeleine—she kept the energy up all night, but considering I had given her a very long list of songs we really liked, I was sad when she played some that weren’t even on the list, particularly during dinner service, knowing that meant less time for the songs we loved most. The ceremony site was stunning, and the reception space perfectly blended rustic mountain charm with elegance. The prime rib was excellent, and overall, the food exceeded our expectations. Dropping off, having them set everything up and picking up decorations went so smoothly. Unfortunately, the contracted bakery that was included in our package never got back to us, even after we followed up multiple times. Because of that, we had to use an outside baker, The Cakery Pastry Studio, whose cake was amazing—but it cost us more money out-of-pocket, even after receiving a credit. The Gold Nugget Cabin was clean and charming, though the bathrooms are dated. I did appreciate that they had recently updated the bridal suite, which made for beautiful “getting ready” photos. I do wish check-in had been earlier for photos, as I felt rushed before the ceremony. My only real regret is not adding an extra hour to the reception—it flew by too quickly. The only big negative I have to share is how close to the wedding they were able to confirm our rehearsal time between 9:00 AM or 1:00 PM. That impacts travel time for the wedding party. In my case they were all coming in from out of state and navigating child care. Not knowing if they’d need to fly in the night before or if they could swing an early AM flight until just 6 weeks before our date added extra stress on me and our wedding party.”
