Wedding DJ
I had high expectations for our wedding DJ, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short. Two days before our wedding, our day-of coordinator finally met with the DJ, who informed her that she had stepped in last minute and as Midwest Sound didn’t have anyone assigned to our event. We understand Thursday wedding is out of the ordinary but we gave our DJ a year in advance to find someone for our day. During their conversation, the DJ seemed unprepared, taking the call while in a car with distractions around her. It was concerning that she didn’t take notes and didn’t demonstrate familiarity with our timeline or specific requests. Our coordinator confirmed several critical details, including the song for our grand march would feature “Forever” by Chris Brown, our dj dropped the ball and quickly announced us with the same song as the wedding party. We were unprepared to walk out as we believed the song would change and the doors would open and we would get this grand entrance. We also discussed that only the bride and groom would give speeches before dinner, we had to awkwardly walk back to the dj station to wait for a corded mic to thank all our guests for being there. Given that we had already provided a detailed timeline, we assumed there wouldn’t be a need to revisit these details on the day of the wedding. On the day of, our coordinator guided her on where to set up for the ceremony, but she did not follow those instructions. Her equipment was visibly placed on the right side of the ceremony space, with cords out in the open, detracting from the appearance of the event. It was unprofessional and looked unkempt. Additionally, the music selection was disappointing. Out of a curated list of 100 songs, she only played about five and then went her own direction of what she believed was okay to play, and even included many songs from our ‘Do Not Play’ list which was also provided to her in advance. This led to awkward moments where we had to stop the music ourselves and ask for the next song. I wish we had been informed earlier that there would be issues with our DJ, so we could have sought alternatives. Overall, the lack of communication and professionalism left us disappointed on a day that should have been perfect.

As You Wish
We hired Midwest Sound DJ Entertainment for our wedding and DJ Akeem handled the music throughout the day. He was quick to respond during the final touch base and stayed organized with our ceremony playlist and transitions. The dance floor was lively, and he took requests from guests as the night went on. However, we noticed that the guest requests took over and we ended up not hearing a lot of the songs we spent time selecting for the reception. Akeem's rates were fair compared to other DJs in the area, and he showed confidence in his work. Overall, he did the job well, though we would have appreciated more balance between our curated list and guest requests. They did not execute our uplighting as planned, which was big let down.

Keep the party moving!
I booked Midwest Sound DJ Entertainment following the Rochester Bridal Expo in Fall of 2025, at a discounted price following their Thanksgiving Deal. They did outstanding with communication prior to DJ Selection. Our DJ was Ben. He had great communication and really did well at keeping up with the timeline. He kept the dance floor alive, along with hitting our must plays. We gathered guests' first dance songs, and provided them to Ben to play throughout Cocktail Hour, and our guests loved this. Most of them did head to the dance floor and dance!

On the day of, he had incredible energy on the mic and knew exactly how to work the crowd, getting people excited without ever feeling over the top. He read the room so well and played the right songs at the right times, which kept our guests dancing all night long. Nathaniel was professional, fun, and made the whole experience stress-free for us. We'd hire him again in a heartbeat and would absolutely recommend Midwest Sound DJ Entertainment to any couple looking for a DJ who actually cares about making their reception special.
