  • Disappointing experience with Instant Request DJ

    Our experience with Instant Request DJ wasn't what we were hoping for. I'll focus most comments here on why we were disappointed, but I will say the DJ did reliably show up on time, knew where to be and when, did a good job communicating day of, and professionally set up equipment both for our ceremony (although we only needed a mic and one speaker) and for the reception. Where things fell short were: 1) for our introduction to the reception "for the first time as a married couple" he called me (groom) by the wrong name, he used the name of our photographer, Eric, which doesn't come close to my name. 2) Admittedly, we had a long "must play" list for the dance floor after dinner, about 50 songs. But we had noted many of them (40-45) didn't need to be played in full, maybe 2 minutes each on average or so. We had 2 prep calls with DJ Damani and had sent a spreadsheet over with our list before the second call, and he did not mention at any point that playing all of them would be an issue. He ended up missing about 20 songs/40% of our list in total. He did however have time to play about 35 songs that were not on our list, so he certainly had the time to play them. they were not obscure songs either, like "Family Affair" by Mary J. Blige, "Golden" by HUNTR/X, and "Friends in low places" by Garth Brooks among others. The songs he did play were enjoyable, and a lot of common/popular songs which was good. But it also felt lazy as if it were chunks of playlists he had created in the past, and didn't want to do the work to put together our specific requests. 3) on one of our preparation calls, he asked us to text him important details like the specialty dances and first dance, and order of events. It felt unprofessional at best, but what was more frustrating is the about 5 hours we had to put into communicating all these details into a complicated and antiquated website. So we had to do about double the work, once well in advance of the wedding but then a second time with about a week and a half left before our wedding date. Not the best time to waste time 4) he played our final song twice. We had discussed a plan that we'd like to end the night with a specific slow song, but as its wrapping up, cut it off and say something like "this is the real last song for the party", and play a faster tempo, good dancing, fun end of the night song. He did do a great job of executing this, but he played the song we requested as final in the later-middle of the night. Given he left songs off our must play it would've been nice not to waste a song, duplicating a song really isn't fun anyway, and we were left thinking he just wasn't going to play our final song as requested for a while. Ultimately he did, but just a weird note to the night. 5) we didn't leave a tip and the manager at Instant Request, Mitch, did say he appreciated the honesty of that, but otherwise I would have thought this would be grounds for a partial refund. We had a January wedding, offseason, so it was indicated to us we would bet getting assigned a pretty good DJ. In fairness it wasn't overly expensive, about 1,200, but felt like some of these mistakes were so unprofessional that it would be fair to do more than an apology email (from Mitch the manager, not from the actual DJ Damani).

    Instant Request DJ Entertainment was an excellent choice for our wedding. From the start, their communication style was organized, direct, consistent, and reliable. The DJs were talented, high energy, and kept the dance floor packed all night long. McDaniel, the DJ assigned to our event, was a hit and did everything we wanted. He made sure to check in with us throughout the night to ensure the music and energy were exactly what we envisioned for our special day. We could not have been happier with Instant Request DJ Entertainment and would highly recommend them to any couple looking for a talented, professional, and dependable wedding DJ.

    DJ Rick A was hands down the BEST!!! he was so fun & energetic and played bangers back-to-back-to-back x 10 to where the dance floor was NEVER empty (and we didn’t really have a dancing crowd). we had the twilight baseball scene as the grand entrance and he HYPED everyone up for it. towards the end of the night, we got caught up talking to guests so he was packing up, but he made sure we got our last solo dance also my sister was taking photos of everyone so i wanted to share one of Rick :)

    DJ Jimmy was the DJ for our wedding and we are SO happy we hired him. Prior to the wedding, he met with us, answered any questions we had, and was so intentional and responsive to what we wanted for the dance. Our wedding included different ethnic songs, and it was easy to collaborate on what would be best for the flow of the dance. Outside of his great song selections, the one thing we appreciated most was that we could trust him. We did not have to "worry" about the flow, the songs that would be played, etc. (on the day of) because we truly trusted him to use his God-given talent to engage the guests and have a successful dance. It felt so reassuring to go into the wedding day with that trust! I would hire DJ Jimmy for any event where you want to get the guests up, moving, and dancing.
